  2. hi merphi, i've lived in shetland for 23 years and it's an amazing place to live. the only drawback to living here is the weather :( we can have 4 seasons in one day. and although it's officially summer time here it is blowing a gale. BUT i wouldn't ever live anywhere else. the people are fantastic(well most of them) and there is a sense of being secure here i certainly feel very safe. i have never been to florida but i keep telling myself that i will go there one day.

  3. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 50p Race To Sakchai will begin on the Athletics Track at 2pm on Saturday 1st July.

The aim is to get together enough 50p pieces to lay end to end as fast as possible down the 100m straight to where Sakchai will be waiting.

To give us a head start, collections will be gathered this weekend in Whalsay, Sandwick and Lerwick. All the money collected will be changed into 50p pieces and used to start the race.

We are inviting everyone, young and old, to come to the Athletics Track between 2pm and 4pm on the day of the race and lay down a 50p (or 2!) to help us reach Sakchai.

All the money raised will go directly into the fund , so start gathering those 50 pences and we'll see you on the 1st!

Anyone who didn't know these are Sakchai's events at athletics. Hope to see some new faces who would like to try as everyone will be made very welcome. 5. my faith in politicians has been upheld by all the good work that alaister carmichael is doing to help sakchai. if i'm ever in need of help i now know where to go. keep up the good work alaister you now will have a few more folk who'll seriously think twice of how they vote in the future. after reading the posts fae davie as well i would like to say he can fight for me anytime. keep up the good work guys. some of us really appreciate it. :D

  6. i only found out about sakcahis probable deportation and i am absolutely gutted. i know him through athletics (and although he has had his problems like the rest of us) he is a genuine down to earth good guy and the prospect of him not being able to help and influence our young athletes does not bear thinking about. our government has totally flipped this time. LET SAKCHAI COME HOME. we are thinking of him and his family we pray he is let home soon. love helen and jamie wilson

  7. i didn't book through ba but the local travel agents and it was on the tuesday for a flight the following tuesday. i agree with you that the cheaper flights seem to be early morning or late evening and as you say the cost of a nights accomodation adds more to the cost and most students want to get home or back again as cheap as possible. so to some students i know the boat will be the favoured option.

  8. my son got air discount card then tried to get a flight. cheapest for day he wanted to go was £136.00 sumburgh to glasgow return. he only wanted to go one way and was quoted £135.90 needless to say he went by boat £33 including bed in shared cabin and that was with student discount. when asking about student seats on flight these were filled and probably had been about 3 months in advance. seemingly it will be cheaper if you book well in advance if you want to take advantage of the discount.

  9. Njugle an mb bar wis chocolate slab wi white fondant stuff in the middle wi mb written on top delicious! another favourites a lucky tattie wi a wee plastic toy in the middle only it wasn't lucky if you swallowed it my brother once swallowed a cowboy on a horse (you know the kind of thing you get out of a cheap christmas cracker) which we found hysterical but he choked and it made his throat bleed. well we were only about 9 and 10 at the time so it was funny!

  10. I agree with the dogs being here, I am not a drug user but I have close family members who are heroin users and I think any way of stopping trafficking of drugs must be used and I do support this charity when I can. People who use drugs don't realise how hurt their families are when they lie, steal and cause uproar within the family, in my experience drug users are selfish and any way we can stop this happening has got to go ahead.KEEP THE DOGS!

  11. I am a soothmoother with family connections in Shetland, my son is a Shetlander and this place is hame to us.I wouldn't live anywhere else and my boy can't wait to finish college and come hame. I would never dream of trying to speak Shetland as I know it doesn't sound right, I went to a country school (here in Shetland) for a while when I was about 14 and got called Haggis! I'd never eaten the stuff before but because of my strong west of Scotland accent I was re- christened. To me soothmoother, would have been more acceptable.

  12. I have been in a position where my mam was on life support but all the tests done indicated that she was brain dead, this was an awful time for the family and we decided that she couldn't be kept alive and it was her time to go. We got some comfort from the fact that she carried a donor card and we donated her organs so yes the decision is a very hard and emotional one but if there is/was a god why did he hurt my mam?

  13. As the mam of an 18year old who has only passed his driving test for a few months,I would like him to see this dvd and to remember that I would not like to be awakened in the middle of the night to the police telling me that there has been an accident that he was involved in. It has to be every parents worst nightmare for that to happen and for a young life to be so cruelly taken. My sympathies and thoughts are with the families who have been able to help produce this dvd it couldn't have been easy for them. I think we need to play this dvd to young folk and try to keep them alive by being a bit stricter and more hard hitting about the facts of getting behind the wheel of a car.
