  1. Sounds like the camera is saving them in RAW format, is it a Panasonic?

Just did a quick search and I can see a few converters here...

Not sure if one/all of these are free but I would have thought so.

I would think the camera shop could read and convert these for you,.

    Hope this helps :-)

  2. I've owned an African Sulcata Tortoise for many years now but moving to Shetland a few years ago has produced a few challenges.

Does anyone know if any of the vets have experience with tortoises? I'm particularly looking for a vet/specialist who can trim my Torts beak.

I'm also looking for a supplier of Loam/Topsoil organic mix. Would anywhere in Shetland stock this or better to source from Aberdeen?

  3. Twice now I have been met coming over the hill passed Leasks/Sutherlands out of the town by the same jogger. Jogging 4 foot out into the lane I was driving my truck in. There was a wide enough gravel verge, maybe not ideal for running on but far safer. I was given a shrug of the shoulders both times as if to say "Well, what do you want me to do?"

I couldn't pull out into the overtaking lane as, yes you guessed it, cars were overtaking my slow moving lorry! I did have to move across slightly to avoid missing her on both occasions putting other road users at risk.

I assume this person doen't appreciate that you can easily get sucked under a large vehicle as it passes closely, maybe if they'd seen this happen they'd think twice about trying to stand their ground against an LGV.

Whilst this was in decent light conditions the jogger was wearing dark clothing and could not be seen until fairly close up.

As a once keen cyclist racing on the UK's road I fully appreciate that not all drivers are patient with other road users but you have to take some responsibility for yourself, do you really need to jog down a main road into oncoming traffic?

  4. Have to disagree with the comment above from my own personal experience. This is the first year I've run with winter tyres on the front drive wheels. The difference has been immense, not been stopped by anything this last couple of weeks :-)

I was dubious as to how goos they'd be but they've paid for themselves several times over by getting me to work early in the mornings and not losing money for time off!

    Brae Garage, Cooper tyres.

  5. If you order just a few items you get charged accordingly, per flatpack depending on size etc. or a proportion of a pallet, i.e. 1/2 or 1/4 and so on.

Orders are collected from Ikea Edinburgh by Shetland Transport every second Thursday and delivered to Lerwick on the Saturday. They then get sorted and are out for delivery/collection the following week.

Cut off order time is usually Sunday for the following Thursday collection. There's a collection this week for delivery Saturday :-)

  6. Great replies guys, many thanks.

I found my old BB 7290 so popped a T-Mobile PAYG sim in to see how I got on around Shetland. Emails are fine in most areas, coverage, dare I say it has even been better side by side than my Vodafone...phone.

I can't open up internet urls though, I reckon it's just the TCP settings but trying to get support from T-Mobile is like pulling teeth.

Anyone use T-Mobile PAYG Blackberry? If so, can you share settings please?

Thought I'd try this before going down any of the discussed routes first.

  7. Looking at getting one of the above, mainly for emailing but occasion internet access, small file downloads etc.

Big fan of the iPod so the iPhone appeals, I've used Blackberry several years ago, very impressed from email prospective but interface not so good.

Android phone/handheld pc etc. is the third alternative.

Can anyone advise on what works/doesn't work in Shetland? The 3G maps say no coverage for vodafone but semi-decent coverage for T-Mobile.

    Appreciate any advice.

    Many thanks in advance :-)

  8. Anyone else experiencing problems sending letters/parcels South?

I get deliveries into Shetland 1st class in a day or 2 but sending South seems to be taking longer and longer.

On average I'm finding parcels take 15-18 days :-( Even letters are taking far too long. The worst is when I send recorded, this takes even longer.

If it was an isolated incident (or two) I wouldn't mind but it's everything I send right now.

    Anyone else having problems?

  9. Just had to check something on my account. I posted a question using their ticket system and was told to expect a response within 5 hours.

10 minutes later I received an email response (not a standard response) and also a text message telling me to check my account as they had responded!

    Very good service :-)

  10. I use Plusnet, have done for the past couple of years. Never had any problems with them

I recently upgraded my plan from £14.99 to £19.99 a month to give a better allowance.

They're certainly not the cheapest but there's no contract and you can change/cancel whenever you want to. (If you don't get any free routers etc.)

  11. ...and we're back to life again! Not switching it off to get the channels sorted this time :-)

I'm pretty sure it's the psu now. I see that you can get a repair kit for a tenner on eBay and there's also a guy who will fix your psu and return it for £18 all in.

Think I'll get another box and then have a go at fixing this one.
