  1. but den it wisna a name out of a "hat" but rather a case of "he's commited a crime at some point. let's get him out of here". if dey had done sum kinda background check den dey would've kent dat dis wisna neccesary. However, at least dey now have a chance to present dis background to da "powers dat be" at da hearing. Assuming dis wisna a case of setting him up fir a greater fall. Previous actions suggest dat we canna assume dat dey're incapable o being cruel. in fact, da greatest fear wid be dat dey get rid o him, still, out o some misguided sense o not wanting to admit dey made a mistake in da first place and feel dis wid save face. Hopefully common sense will prevail ower dis tho

  2. it was okay for him to represent his county and country at sport when it suited the powers that be, but also okay with the same powers to disown and evict him from the county and country he represented when it suited them as well.

i hardly think dat "da powers dat be" knew dat he wis representing shetland in da island games etc. do you really think dat dey run a checklist on athletic competitors? :?

furthermore, wid folk have supported sakchai if he wis deemed a "freeloader"? da answer, unfortunatley, may well be no. But why should dat be da case? why should dat even be a consideration? something is either an injustice or not. it should not be an injustice if it happens tae sum folk, perfectly fine if it happens tae sumwan else. or are folk dat are working (bearing in mind da severe shortage of jobs in shetland at da moment) sumhow "better people" dan folk dat are not working, for whitever reasons?

whit exactly is a "freeloader" onyway?

how can you define a "freeloader"?

  3. but den plenty o folk have bin quick to answer on posts on dis thread/"debate" when it's haeing a go at sumwan, while da majority of folk hae bin quick to go on, repeatedly, aboot how dey wid be mair dan willing tae answer relevant questions, yet ignore dem when asked.

I repeat > - one could perhaps wonder why.

but den, plenty o folk have been going on aboot how da personal element isn't important when it comes tae supporting da campaign etc, so why be personal aboot ither things? :?

on a seperate, yet similar point, wha decides whit question is or isn't "relevant"?

    :? :)

    'Twas you who mentioned "relevant".

but den, da person dat kept going on da maist aboot questions being relevant etc wis davie. whit gives him, or onyboady (nae wanting tae single him oot exclusively) da rite tae decide as tae da relevancy o a question?

unless it's offensive (whit's sakchai's problem wi serving in da army? for example) den surely every question is relevant as da answer given could help raise awareness o da situation and persuade ithers tae join da support, who previously didna feel dey kent enuf tae allign demsels wi it

tho i doot dat dis line o thought could go on, and on, and on...

    :? :)

  4. so, have aa da folk dat wir haeing a go aboot folk dragging dis thread intae disrepute gan aff in a huff noo or sumthing?

reason for naeboady answering relevant questions?

how exactly are folk supposed tae get info if naeboady can be bothered answering things?

or are we jist tae draw oor ain conclusions on things?

    childish

As far I can understand, this was meant to be a thread for debate on general issues regarding deportation. No-one is obliged to answer or remark upon any question or point raised - people will choose whether they wish to reply or not. You cannot demand people answer and if they choose not to, then call them "childish". If people generally are not choosing to respond to this thread, that is their choice. One could perhaps wonder why though...

but den plenty o folk have bin quick to answer on posts on dis thread/"debate" when it's haeing a go at sumwan, while da majority of folk hae bin quick to go on, repeatedly, aboot how dey wid be mair dan willing tae answer relevant questions, yet ignore dem when asked.

on a seperate, yet similar point, wha decides whit question is or isn't "relevant"?

    :? :)

  5. however, i wis sad tae note, considering aa dat folk have bin harping on aboot in regards tae helping ithers and no jist sakchai, dat nithing has bin said in regards tae my aunts mother and sister. a comment o understanding or da lik widna hae bin completely oot o place.

I have to say, I would feel compltely unequipped to give a 'comment of understanding' about your aunt's plight. You haven't provided any appropriate detail for anyone to be able to make informed comment. She may be a wonderful woman that gives a lot to the community, or she might be a freeloader that only wants to be in the country for what she can get. Impossible to tell (and ultimately 'understand') without any detail of why she is here, when she came, what she hopes to gain from being here and why she is waiting to hear when she has to leave.

We know all of this is Sakchai's case, and we know he has been treated abysmally and unfairly by the authorities.

If I had more information about your aunts case and I (personally) thought it worthy, I would happily support it.

a fair point, however, when i asked aboot these sort o points in regards tae sakchai i wis met wi accusations o bringing things intae disrepute, jist haeing my fun at sumwan elses expense etc.

as you say, it is hard sometimes tae show sympathy or understanding towards sumthing/sumwan if u dinna ken onything about dem, so why are questions on here met wi such derision?

how else are folk meant tae get info withoot asking da questions dey want answered?

    :?

  6. actually a better name noo. means dat efter da sakchai ordeal has bin sorted (which should be friday) we can continue on aboot ither folk both in shetland and oot dat may need firther help and assistance, or even on da topic in general since sakchai's name has bin removed fae da thread full stop. (probably no da intention, given da new name  but da removal of sakchai's name actually maks it seem lik a positive stance dat as o friday it's no longer gonna be an issue dat directly affects him) :)

Methinks the irony has passed you by somewhat...

actually got da "irony", jist chose tae ignore it

  7. i'm not asking for help on da matter, tho thank you for dat post :)

however, it is really up to my aunt etc to decide if ithers shud get involved, and dey're quite private people when it comes to family situations. i also don't think dere's onything dat can be done however, especially due to mental health being an issue.

i am unsure as to da most recent developments on da matter, as my uncle has bin dealing wi it aa himsel, and is too busy wirking tae provide for dem aa dat i rarely get tae see him much too find oot whit's going on.

as for da alienating issue, gibbo, dis is probably correct, though perhaps unfair as dey wirna involved in da "debate" ataa. and tae be honest, despite whit a number of folk will think, i tried staying oot o it mysel, and tried tae calm it aa doon on a number o ocassions, but nae doot no aaboady will i agree wi dis. at least it seems tae hae calmed doon noo, tho perhaps a bit too far noo :D

  8. i agree wi judge. it wid be great if the waterfront looked a bit better as well.

you sail intae da liks o Thoshaven and it looks all idyllic and wonderful, quaint, but in a good way.

here, wi da exception o sum, it's all factories and decrepit looking auld buildings. spruce it up a bit. for a place sae reliant on tourism, it really disna seem datna bothered aboot how it looks

  9. Out of the many points made in this 'debate', the minority of relevant ones were answered by those in the know. The rest, well, nobody is bothered about apart from a few folk sharing computers, although I stupidly took the bait a couple of times  . Keep 'debating' by all means, but don't be surprised if folk are putting their efforts into Fridays hearing and not into this tiresome thread.

da question asked wis in relation tae fridays hearing, wis a relevant point, and wisna answered, so da claim of aa relevant questions have bin answered is wrang.

however, i accept da fact dat folk will be busy at da moment wi fridays hearing looming ever larger.

however, i wis sad tae note, considering aa dat folk have bin harping on aboot in regards tae helping ithers and no jist sakchai, dat nithing has bin said in regards tae my aunts mother and sister. a comment o understanding or da lik widna hae bin completely oot o place.

dis isna a dig against sakchai at all, but it disna back up folks claims o helping da general need rather as jist wan individual if dey canna even acknowledge da plight o sumwan else ithers as jist wan. and afore da reply (if ony) mentions da idea of folk being busy preparing for friday, noboady can seriously say dat everywan dat has bin involved on dis thread are actually involved in da preparations for friday.

but den, it's easier tae ignore ithers sumtimes.

as i said, i am not having a go at da campaign or sakchai, and understand dat his need is presently mair important and urgent, but considering whit folk have bin saying aboot helping ithers etc, wid it o bin wrang tae expect at least sum mention o dem?

    :?

    childish

Note this isn't conjusive to a 'friendly' debate!

Remember that this is a forum board where people must take time out from their schedules to view and answer topics. Perhaps you would be as well to contact those involved directly via telephone and or in person if you require this information so urgently that you have to respond in this manner!

    fair point :)

  11. actually a better name noo. means dat efter da sakchai ordeal has bin sorted (which should be friday) we can continue on aboot ither folk both in shetland and oot dat may need firther help and assistance, or even on da topic in general since sakchai's name has bin removed fae da thread full stop. 12. listening tae sum music ee noo, what's going on by Taste cam on reminding me o sumwan i forgot dat i dinna think has bin mentioned on here yet.

    step forward...Rory Gallagher

oh! and Paul Kossoff of Free 8)

  13. but at da same time, do we hae tae wait til behaviours etc have gotten tae da extreme end o da scale afore action is taken?

i'm no saying lock em up or onything as extreme (and heavy handed) as dat, nor is it fair tae tar aa kids wi da saim brush, but nor does some folks dismissal of it no being aa dat bad help matters either.

nip it idda bud afore it gets too bad.

  14. dus onywan ken whit da process is fir dis hearing on friday?

is dis a precursor tae firther hearings, or dus it aa boil doon tae how it goes den, and dat is da end o it either way? or is it purely dependent on how it goes?

if it goes horribly wrang, is der a further appeal process, or da lik, dat can continue on da fight?

    how dus it aa work?

dus onywan actually ken da answer to dis question, or are folk jist no interested in answering? :?

  15. Pat Metheny - A modern master of jazz influenced guitar. Bright Size Life is an amazing trio album, with Jaco Pastorius on bass guitar

a good shout, canna believe i forgot aboot him DOH!!

  16. personally, i loved da food on da old clair - tho admittedly. dis wisna tae dae wi da quality and mair tae dae wi da fact dat maist o da crew kent my grandad, him being lang associated wi da fishing/whaling, and so we often got free grub (tho me fave bonus wis still getting da christmas selection pack fae da purser even tho i wis well past da child mark)

  17. This is da letter in question

This letter is for the parents of some of the pupils at the Anderson High School in Lerwick

I am sure that most of you are unaware of what some of your little darlings get up to during the dinner-break, when they are allowed to go into the town and when they are yours, and not the school's, responsibility. I won't bother to mention the foul language and the litter which are a regular feature of this time of day on the street; just one incident last week.

On Wednesday around 1.40pm, one delightful, blond-haired boy threw open the door of the Spider's Web in Commercial Street and launched a misile of a caramel-coated, cream filled fancy. It hit a shelf and broke up, showering a large number of crumbs, caramel and cream.

It took two hours to clean upthe mess, carefully removing the creamy mixture from between the fibres, necessitating closure of the shop and consequent loss of trade. In the middle of the tourist season this is quite serious for a small business, not to mention creating a poor impresion for our visitors.

To the person who was responsible for this mindless act, I would like to point out that it was neither clever nor funny and an apology would go a long wayto showing that you are not entirely without sense.

I would also like to say that most of the bairns at the school are really fine and it is a shame that a few individuals have to spoil it for the rest.

    Lousie Irvine

    The Spider's Web,

    Commercial Street,

    Lerwick.

personally, i mind da primary school i attended in aberdeen banning da kids tae leave da school during lunch time, unless dey wir going hame fir dinner, due tae complaints made fae local shops etc aboot behaviour. Nae sure if dis actually made ony difference tho
