Can anyone tell me the correct way to spell Hamefarin? So far I have:
Hamefarin
Hamefirn

It is sad (in all senses) that bringing original bands up here looses promoters money, but if tribute bands are the only thing that people want to see then so be it. On the positive side, at least there is some live music going on. I agree with Bullet in the Mailman too. I've found playing gigs south to be quite a bit better from the artisits point of view. Audiences are more recpetive, attentive and greatful, and are often willing to pay to see you play.

Little Pebble - Once Upon a Time
One of Scotland's best unsigned songwriters, check out his website at www.littlepebble.co.uk.

Age is a subjective thing. It is different for each child I think. Though my instict tells me that they will be able to understand the situation just as well as anyone else. I'm sure if they can write and spell their name they can make an informed decision

I've found that kids are usually very assertive and often more capable at making decisions than many adults.

I hope they put the saved revenue into more 'Later with Jools Holland'. It surely is the best music show on the BBC.

Shame that only 2 people (including myself) turned up, but on the other hand, for entirley selfish reasons I think it was the most productive afternoon I have ever had with making contacts, getting info and just having a general chat about the industry. It's only Monday and I've had very positive replies from two major players in the industry so far.
Thank you very much Davie and all at Shetland Arts.

great idea but you'd need to find a few folk who would definatley turn up to perform before booking anything I think.

Yep, I got my hug!! The Hazey Janes were amazing, the best band I've seen (and not just in Shetland) for a while. Pure power pop beatuifulness!! Lovely people too. It was a great night all 'round. Roddy Woomble played a great set, and John McKusker blew my mind once again. Family Mahone rounded it all off very nicely too. Thank you Shetland Arts.

Yup, it's entirely subjective I suppose.

eeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrpppppppp!
I missed it, did anyone record it or know if it's on-line?

The SIC are great to work for. The Skippidock were awful. The Co-op were pretty bad and H&M in Edinburgh were quite good for a multi-national.

Got to be Edinburgh for me. It has loads of galleries, nice architecture, pubs, trees, and most importantly a Castle! Glasgow comes a close second too, like Edinburgh it has a rich arts and culture scene and is really good (better than Reekie) for music too.

yes plucker I agree infact I think the "MAJORITY" would agree that segatrix is truly a master debater!
!!Well put my friend! Missin dee. JOx!!

In reply to sega's last post. I think the majority of readers can work this out for themselves. We don't need you to tell us this, but maybe you feel the need to write and prove how clever you are. That's the only point I can see in your post. What is significant is the sheer number of people who have supported the campaign and signed the petition, compared to those who have not. A majority of which could have nothing to do with them being against the cause - e.g children and adults who cannot write or use/have access to a computer, or for geographical reasons.

I'm agnostic, but I do like hanging out in Churches and visiting them, soleley for the atmosphere and for a look around. They can be great places to chill out and the art work in them is often quite impressive. Don't suppose anyone else does this? There is also one in Edinburgh that gives out free bacon rools on a Sunday morning at 10am, which is nice.

I think the term is rather archaic and probably resonates, or really means anything to the people who grew up around the oil boom in the 70's/80's. You know all the indiginous males being threatended by their exotic challengers from south, loosing their weemin tae them and takin der jobs.
I'm 23 and I don't know many people around my age who even consider other Shetland residents as soothmoothers, whatever their orginin or way of talking - yet alone give the debate much heed. All I can say is thank goodness that people from other parts of the UK and the rest of the world have settled in Shetland. I for one would not be here if not, and neither would many of my friends. Why give a hoot about the way people talk, or where they have come from, it's what people say and what they do that really matters.

^^
What do you mean by a true Shetlander? Please define, be specific.

Far too hard to nail my fav's of all time but just now:
The Velvet Underground and Nico - The Banana Album
Josh Rouse - Sibtiulo
Elliot Smith - From A Basement on the Hill

The committee should have issued a sincere apology a long time ago for the behaviour of that man. It is a real embarrassment. I myself think UHA is a pile of balls, in that it encourages underage drinking, adultery and aloholism, to name but a few. But I do realise that it is not all bad and important for the Shetland community and culture.

***Bursts with excitement***

Hi,
Can anyone give me any tips for recording a fiddle? I have a condenser mic and a Shure SM58. I'm also wondering about where we should aim the fiddle and what kind of room we should record in (I'm doing it at home). Any suggestions for EQ and reverb would be good too. The songs are just acoustic guitar, vocal and fiddle.
thanks!

Sounds like a great idea Marvin. A bit like the Camden Crawl in London and the Fringe in Edinburgh. I've often wondered what Posers would be like as a venue? My instinct tells me it could be quite good?
