  1. On the subject of drinking on SIC property. Where are christmas parties held? I could offer a guess that many of the posters here have drunk on SIC property at one time.

Drinking on SIC premises is only allowed with the permission of the management on special occasions, such as Xmas parties.

Surely the Cheif Exec is 'The Management' is he not?

  2. ISOT... no obviously craig gerty didnt score, as yell could not field a team!!

Megador - Ecxuse my ignorance there I must have been distracted I was looking at the Spurs v Ness scoreline at the top of the page! I also noticed Spurs didn't score that night so obviously young Gerty didn't find the net!!

I also believe and remember this is my opinion that although Gerty may be a decent footballer in the local league I don't think he has that bit of magic that he would have needed to score at the Island games. I just don't think he's good enough!! Yes he can run all day and be a general pain in the ass for most defenders but at a higher level I think he would struggle!

In my opinion MacDougal and Erik Thomson are a better quality player than Gerty.

    Cheers

  3. Yip! Well done to all the boys.

A good win and a decent performance, certainly a huge improvement on the Western Isles game and maybe that will stick a couple of fingers up to the more negative and sceptical people that have been around lately!

ps. I hope the boys got well and truly buckled after the game if thats what they want to do!

  4. At the end of the day some people enjoy having a bevvy to unwind wether it be 2 pints or 15 pints and some people don't which I think sometimes gives the latter the upperhand in any argument or discussion when it comes to issues such as this post!

The boy did no harm to anyone so live and let live!

Just another point, after todays cup final, how many of the players, winners or losers do you think will be going to the pub after the game today and having a good scoop of booze and enjoying their night out? What happens if one of them ends up sleeping under a tree or up a lane harming no-one, does he bring shame on his club, town or village he lives in?

Cheers and have a good weekend wether your boozing or watching Jordan at 9pm (ITV) :D

  5. ^^^

Precisely - if he'd played in all of Shetland's games he had every right to be tired.

He might have over-indulged in the bevvy department, but I, for one, am not going to start criticising someone an the basis of something the Shetland Times reports.

    Totally agree.

Who says he was incapable anyway? Is it not the case he was miles away from his digs in another country and felt his best option for the night was to find a comfy place to lay his head down? As far as I'm aware he wasn't sleeping 'on the streets' anyway I think this has been sensationalised just to make a story for the media!

Too many people out there like to be judge and jury! As far as the story reported goes he didn't harm or abuse anyone and if your talking about representing Shetland or any other Island or hometown, how many people can truly say they've never left these shores and been in a drunken stooper or behaved in a way a little less amicably with a few pints aboard or even without drink for that matter.

    Live and let live.

ps. I have no association with the lad involved either it just annoys me when the demon 'drink' is ever mentioned. Jesus he's a young lad!

  6. Roddick is a very experienced and quality grass court player and was just too good today! Murray was never aggressive enough and his first serve was extremely poor throughout the entire game but he's only 22 and he will have more opportunitities for sure.

  7. I was there last night, absolutely brilliant! Definently the best in sporting quality I would imagine seen in these Isles. Great performances from Taylor and Anderson especially in their exhibition match although the highlight must have been Taylor hitting the 'Bullseye' through a bit of A4 paper against Geordie Smith, Awesome. Saying that the two or three 10 darters and the 170 checkout weren't too shabby either!! :D

Anyway great night, fantastic entertainment, well done Gideon, more of that will go down nicely! :D

  8. So thanks to this wonderful split , Hearts have a local derby on a Thursday night - funny how they'd never do that to the Old Firm - and we have to go to Ibrox for the 3rd time in the league his season.

    What a joke organisation. :x :x

It's not ideal and should have been changed years ago but I do believe Rangers have to go to Easter Rd. for the 3rd time this season so I guess It just swings in roundabouts.

  9. Why no get it fae Argos, it's far cheaper tae get da stuff up here.

I would be surprised if Argos would be any cheaper than Harrys in this case or many others. I do most of my shopping in the town at the local shops and find that even if you have to pay a few pounds more it inevitably ends up cheaper and hassle free than buying online.

I've had a good look through the Tesco catalogue over the past few weeks and they are not as cheap as they would like to think they are.

Ask yourself why they are going to charge you an extra £55 for your purchase. thats what you call a freight charge and don't tell me they couldn't stick a few toys in the back of one of their many containers that arrive on the island every week which I can hardly believe are packed to the gunnels with food!!!!

Who's ripping off who here! This is just the beginning I fear.

  10. In relation to seating in the new building was one of the main points raised about problems with The Garrison as a film venue not the fact that If you're sitting watching a film for 2 or 3 hours not that it was incredibly uncomfy?

I have to say I go regularly to watch films at The Garrison and find that although it does get a bit cramped for people with longer legs it's really not that bad. I'm 6 foot by the way.

What I'm trying to say is if they are going to spend £10 million (at least) on this venue it better be bloody comfy! :D

  11. Seems to be the case that there is quite a bit of international interest in the building. I came across this today:

    http://www.far2000.com/information/far2000/20090317/031H93232009.html

Incidently you may note that in there the word Lerwick is visible, but not the word Shetland. That is because there is a Chinese term for Shetland, namely this: 设得兰. Seems a strange combination because 兰 on its own means orchid. I presume it is a "soundalike" construction. Orkney on the other hand is 奥克尼. The final glyph 尼 on its own means Buddhist Nun ;-)

I can honestly say I haven't seen the architectural representaion of Mareel in any great form but looking at the composition in that link does the building not look like a bit of a monstrosity!!!!

  12. Its an I-pod nano 4th Generation just out before chrismas! So I still have the same problem. I also bought a Teac Dock for £150 which would charge my old i-pod but not the new one! It just saves me having to take it inside the house and charging it on the laptop!

  13. Hi can someone help please!

I have had to buy a new I-pod(the thin one) I think it's 3rd generation but not sure!

Anyway!!! It won't charge on my car kit as it says it's not compatible so I need another cark kit, does anyone know where or if you can get a kit for the car that will charge when I put it in the dock!!!!!

Why is it a 3rd Gen i-pod can't charge on a docking station a 2nd Gen can? That makes no sense to me!

    Any help much appreciated.

  14. Hi there.

My wife and I are looking into going to Malta for 10 days in May or June for a well earned break. We here its really nice and as we have never been can anyone recommend places to stay?

We would be looking to stay in a hotel maybe Mid budget or Mid-High but looking on the net is no substitute for first hand experience. Just want somewhere relaxing with a nice pool as I'm not much of a beach fan, doesn't have to be quiet either because we like a few drinks now and again.

Any help would be most grateful.

    Thank you very much.
