I think I've done it.

I too would like to change my avatar. I have reduced the physical size of the one I want in Photoshop t0 96/96. Fine. But,the only way I can find to save it is as a 27Kb Jpeg. Help.

I'm in the "Almost Senile" league and Male, Drew. My tastes in music are Debbie Scott,Shoormal,Willie Hunter and other such Shetland folk,none of whom get a mention on the music pages. I wonder if the living ones will ever get an invite to the CMV?

I was not being facetious or asking a trick question. In the past,when stating that I was going to the mainland to visit Brae, Lerwick or Scalloway I was told by friends and relatives that the Mainland was that huge mass where Aberdeen and Edinburgh are situated. The main island of the Shetland group was merely Shetland.

Now this was fine whilst Shetland was part of the County of Zetland but the Boundary Commission decided not only to remove the bonny name of Zetland but to decide that the title County was not appropriate for a group of islands so,instead of Shetland County Council we were stuck with SIC.

But old ideas die hard and we still celebrate the County Drama Festival and inter county matches between Orkney and Shetland.

Now,whilst the Shetland Islands may be singular metaphorically they can not physically be singular,so the term The Shetlands is politically correct.

Just the same. I am going to the mainland today to visit the Gilbert Bain.

What does one call the main island of Shetland?

Raise subjects we can comment on. I read every post but most of the comments are way out of my league.

It amuses me when I hear the Sumburgh area referred to as South Shetland.

Static cameras have limited rotation so it is easy to stay out of their range. Only complete strangers would be detected by any system.

The Scottish Executive have just spent £170k on a mobile CCTV unit. This unit is for use anywhere in the Highlands and Islands. Does SIC still need to go ahead with it's plans to buy a system for Lerwick.

When will this ten hour difference between reported/actual time of posting be sorted?

a driver is still required to adjust speed to suit conditions.

 

If all drivers complied with this rule there would be no need for speed limits.

There are times when 10mph is too fast in town yet times when 100mph is appropriate on motorways. It isn't speed which kills.
