  1. I was there this week for lunch. Food was good although the portions perhaps a tad too peerie for the price. I'm still trying to suss what a sort of fish a lyrie is, it formed part of the chowder along with piltocks. Is a lyrie a plucker? The cakes were the same as the Peerie Shop Cafe.

The service was up to Shetland standards with an appropriate mix of chaos and surliness. Don't go at lunchtime if you are in a hurry.

  2. Apert fae da clearly, weel, speechless renderin NS article (dir is a distinct line atween freedom o speech and irresponsibility - an i winder if Mr Smith will implode whin someane tells him dir ir Christians wha ir also Gay?), da muckle poll really is amazin me.

Well I'm a Christian and happen to be gay. Can I print leaflets?

  3. I find myself agreeing with Ewenutz having today bought shoes (John Lewis), jeans (Next) and several books (Amazon) all online.

Its not just choice thats not available here, as Ewenutz said, its also quality. Chris Hodge has its place I'm sure but the town is full of shops selling cheap goods of dubious quality. I may pay a bit more for the clothes, shoes and household goods that I buy but they do last and are well made.

The most successful shops in Lerwick seem to be those where there has been some investment over the years. Many, although they must have had it good for many years, have never invested in their properties. Just look at the stonework and roofs of some buildings. As a result they are cramped with terrible stairs and circulation. Even in some of the old buildings modern shops can be developed. Look at Mackays and Boots, with a bit of money and effort perfectly decent modern shops are possible on the street. To keep the street viable we need more good shops, if not we can really accept that its had its day. If it wasnt for the bank and post office I would hardly need to be on the street.

There is still a need for some bigger retail units somewhere out of the town centre.

  4. Folk have been getting these letters, me included. The website lets (or did let, last time I tried) you book others using your ADS card.

Its their problem - not yours, as its an advantage to book family or friends using one card/booking. This guarantees you all get on a flight rather than doing bookings for each person with their own ADS number. The danger with that is that some of you get cheap seats, but the last one to book may find that there are no cheap seats left.

The problem is easily corrected if the website asked for each persons name and ADS number. Perhaps it does now.

Do as I did, write back explaining the problem and copy your letter to Tavish.

  5. Why not let the SIC try to push it through now, and enjoy the clear out in the election.

I'm sure members have been given all the facts. As usual they won't have read anything other than the recommendations and now they choose to blame the officials.
