  1. AGM's and EGM's are part of life and I suggest you start getting involved yourself if the youngsters are not willing. Ignorance gets you nowhere!! The logistical nightmare of organising a North Isles team/club must be obvious to all involved with the current Yell and Unst associations. The amount of phone calls required is incredible for one match. Travel and pick up-times appear to be straight forward but then the inevitable happens. Bereavements, events, weddings, injuries, weather, ferry problems etc. They all may require further phone calls. I remember G.Priest telling the SFA last year that one match had involved over 60 phone calls alone. This will obviously be MORE problematic with a combined island team. ( As it was previously I remember) That is the least of it. The two clubs finances and SIC grant applications would have to be combined which would VERY difficult and would probably mean running out of pocket for one season. The current Junior set-up has been primarily run AND funded by Unst FC with Unst picking up the additional costs. If their is such a strong will on the Island of Yell to support a combined team I suggest they get their own house in order at all levels and perhaps the may get their wish in the not too distant future. As far as fixtures go, Steve Naulls will be at the next meeting. At the emergency meeting which caused all this hastle, Unst agreed to play in the A-League on the condition that all Unst home matches were played in UNST. The association agreed and saturdays 3.30pm kick offs were to be preferred with any changes to be agreed by all parties including refs. Unst offered that, due to the obvious problem of midweek travel, that depending on cup draws they would play some matches midweek...Yell,Delting Etc. This will prove difficult for everyone but it was what the reps present at that meeting agreed to. P.S When a team struggles for players it does not give them the right to hijack another for their own benefit. Concentrate your efforts shown on this forum AT THE SFA MEETING.
  2. It is Unst's right to enter the proposed A-League as UNST and Unst alone. As far as I am aware they held a AGM and the PLAYERS and REPS voted democratically to Fulfill the promise made under duress at the Emergency SFA metting. The REPS appeared well informed of their members thoughts on the matter. Yell FC have been left in a horrible predicament by poorly thought out SFA proposals poor representation of club members opinions. The Northern Rovers venture is likely to happen in the future but I cannot see it developing until their is a Manager who would be willing to handle the logistical nightmare and conflicts of interest involved. Not a job to be undertaken lightly as any current manager would understand. Before everyone involved in the SFA is publicly slated I totally agree with Kirsty. These people give up time and effort to attend meetings and organise some sort of football, good or bad. Some have a sensible approach to decision making and some less so. Some have their own clubs agenda at heart and are blind to other clubs difficulties. The SFA were correct in calling the Emergency meeting and THAT was always the place to air the views of your clubs. Unfortunately, you have probaly all missed the boat for a get out clause.
  3. It has been very interesting reading the comments posted by all. Firstly, at the SFA meeting which finally resulted in the current league proposals, it was Unst and Burra who were most verocious in their opposition for teams being forced into the A-league. They were overturned on the evening by reps from other clubs including Yell, Whitedale and an exYell manager. Both Unst/Burra reps RELUCTANTLY agreed to a proposal which did not include any Reserve football at all. Since, we have seen Unst and Burra attempt to fulfill their promise. Yell on the other hand have failed to do so. Their clearly seems to be a massive breakdown in communiication from rep to players which is typical of the disorganised mess YFC. As a neutral I can understand why Unst have no immediate desire to merge. It would be a organised logistical disaster!! (according to reports it was a democratic vote by players NOT MANAGEMENT alone which refused a merger) The SFA Constitution mentions developing football length and breadth of shetland. These proposals are damaging to most except town based Works League sides who will ultimately gain P.S I have nothing but sympathy for Yells predicament.
