Italy will use its seat in the United Nations Security Council to campaign for a world-wide condemnation of the death penalty, Prime Minister Romano Prodi said Tuesday. "Italy will move within the UN Security Council so that the condemnation of the death penalty may become operational and common in all the countries of the world," daily La Repubblica quoted Prodi as saying. Italy joined the UN's top decision-making body for a two-year term on Monday. The overwhelmingly Catholic country has traditionally opposed the death penalty and its leaders have strongly condemned last week's execution of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Prodi made his comment after a meeting with the leader of the country's tiny but combative Radical Party, Marco Pannella. Pannella has gone on a hunger strike to push for a world-wide moratorium on the death penalty. Doctors have expressed "serious concern" over the deteriorating medical condition of the 70-year-old leader, who was on his eighth day without food on Tuesday. Lets hope Prodi gets his way.

I think he should have been tried by the U.N. for war crimes against humanity including genocide.Found guilty and sentenced to life, and kept in solitary confinement (In America if need be ).Just as Rudolf Hess was tried afterWorld War 2.Only closely watched so he could'nt commit suicide.

I am disgusted with the BBC showing him on the gallows,its made me ill and ensured that I shall not watch the news the rest of the day. I am against capital punishment and think he should have been kept as the shoe bomber is, in solitary confinement the rest of his life.As it is he now has his wish and has been Martyred.

I should have said they were perscription glasses.I hope no one thinks I'm running around wearing infra red glasses.(sigh) Seems its not only my eyesight failing with age.

I have just tried out my new night time driving glasses,what an odds.If anyone has a problem with driving at night get some, if you can't get them here you can get them in Aberdeen.

Has anyone other than me come across elderly English women in there late sixties who have come here for the right of passage to our Care Homes and while they wait think they can be as nasty and rude as they please. Today I was on the recieving end and it shook me up,I was however polite back,and angry at my self for being so.These people seem to think they are the font of all knowledge on all things Shetland,yet I being a Shetlander am just a yokel...
