  1. I've just uploaded some video footage of our lasrt gig at Cafe Drummonds, Aberdeen, from a couple of weeks ago: http://www.myspace.com/daveinkster (Think you've got to subscribe to view) Shamless plug: we're playing Drummonds in Aberdeen this Thursday If anyone's around....
  2. No copyright eh? Well, If our next album's got a track called Njugle Boogie, and you experience Deja Vu at the first verse, don't blame me
  3. Well, due to change in circumstances, I won't be moving to Shetland after all (at least not this year). However, If anyone on the forum's going to be in Aberdeen, the Son Henry Band's playing the Blue Lamp tomorrow, and Drummonds on the Thursday before Christmas - If anyone can make it, I'll be the strat-wielding lefty!
  4. Great release! It's the soundtrack to The Cirque du Soleil show, called "Love" in Las Vegas, a concept first mooted by George Harrison and the founder of CdS, who were mates. George Martin and his son spent three years trawling through Beatles recordings to present their music in a new way; suppose it's a bit like "Endtroducing" by DJ Shadow, but just using Beatles music. Some of the results are remarkable....
  5. I've been keeping an eye on the local news for the past few weeks, and I must say, I'm astounded at the ammount of stories concerning drugs and violence, particularly in Lewick. I live close to a town with a population thats just two or three thousand less than Lerwick, and arrests/violence/drugs arrests etc are pretty much few and far between. (.. I ain't from Fraserborough or Peterhead!) I've only been in Lerwick once, for a job interview, but it seemed kinda small for all this nonsense - is it as bad as these stories suggest?
  6. Been listening to Nick Harper for a while now - great player, great songwriter, great singer... b*****d!! How about Kelly Joe Phelps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc68_eoSRoo [/url]

    Gig Guide

If anyone's going to be around the Granite City in the next couple of weeks, we're (Son Henry Band) playing Drummonds on Thurs 30th Nov, and The Blue Lamp on Sat 9th Dec.
  8. Hmm! Sounds expensive. I read something recently in a Sunday paper about the Scottish parliament looking to reduce certain costs on distant islands so that there was more 'equality' between the islands and the mainland. Petrol costs and further reductions in travel were both highlighted - but, hey, Scottish parliament, perhaps we shouldn't hold our breath!!
  9. Hi folks, moving to Shetland soon and am trying to get a sense of cost of living/ travel etc. Am I right in assuming that a return flight to London from Sumburgh would be around £320? Anyone know how much London return flights are with the islanders discount? Also, been trying to work out ferry prices with island discount - again, am I right assuming it works out at about £30 return for most of the year?
  10. It'll probably be the start of January that I move to Shetland, and my wife may not be best pleased if my immediate priority is to play guitar rather than all the banal stuff that goes with moving house, so I probably won't be getting into music until...February Maybe get a jam at some point though!
  11. I think independance could only be a step forward for Scotland. Devolution has proved itself to be politically impotent, but nevertheless a step in the right direction. Whilst I abhore the kind of nationalism that defines itself against an 'enemy', I'm all for Scotland learning to both celebrate and take care of itself. I think independance would restore the right kind of national pride. I also believe that we're resourceful, creative, and intelligent enough to make independece economically viable. Now's the time...
  12. Hi folks, I'm moving up to Shetland in the next few weeks, and would be interested to hear from anyone interested in playing blues and/or folk blues, acoustic/electric...anything. I prefer stuff like early B B King, Muddy Waters, T- Bone Walker, Sonny Boy Williamson etc, and am not so keen on the likes of Stevie-Ray and Hendrix (though they are great musicians, just not my cup of tea). On the 'folky' side - John Martyn, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake and Sandy Denny are favourites... Been playing electric guitar with the Son Henry band in Aberdeen for a year now, so I'm pretty keen to keep playing in one way or another, acoustic or electric. love to hear from anyone with similar music tastes...
