  1. So here's my idea for the Madrid Cup. Predict the result of every game now (or before 6pm Monday night). Correct scores will only be used if there is a tie after the final. Mardrid Cup Prelim round 28th April Ness 2 v Spurs 4 Monday 5th of May Quarter-finals Thislte 1 v Delting 5 Spurs 3 v Yell 0 Celtic 2 v Scalloway 1 Whalsay 4 v whitedale 1 Monday 19th of May Semi-finals Delting 3 v Whalsay 1 Celtic 2 v Spurs 3 Saturday May 31st Madrid Cup Final Delting 5 v Spurs 0 Maybe I've read too much into Spurs Highland Fuels thumping of Ness, but the draw looks favourable for them...
  2. PENFOLD IN CORRECT SCORE SHOCKER!!! Last night penfold found himself in the unusual situation of celebrating a Delting win. However, the much maligned Shetlink stalwart wasn't the only person to back the champions for a 4-1 win. Marshall moves into second place after his poor start to the season, which sees EISTnWAST heading South. Frankie kept up his good early season form to increase his lead to 5 points. Surely his 100% record of 1 correct scoreline during every round of fixtures must come to an end soon? Frankie 21 Marshall 16 EISTnWAST 12 MiM 11 Mr Brain 10 brokenlink 9 penfold 9 Baxter 6 hellsbells 6 Stoichkov 6 The next set of fixtures to predict will be the ones on 2nd & 3rd of May that penfold posted. Does anybody have the draw for the Madrid Cup? We can keep that seperate to give somebody a chance for early season glory
  3. 'A' Team games was what I said, but if everybody would rather stick to league games? I'm happy doing both. Not like I've got anything better to do with my time
  4. Well as long as he was cheating generous with the time added on because he's a Ness man and not to deny you points on here 3 things...... 1 - penfold are there no games between the 25th April and 2nd May? 2 - I know people are keen to post their predictions early (especially when they have a lot of ground to make up ), but can we start posting games only one week in advance please. It will make it easier for me if I have a lot of posts to look back through. Anyway, surely you want to wait until as late as possibe so the latest form, injuries, suspensions, and refs (allegedly) can be taken into account. 3 - Although my initial post said 1 point for predicting home, away or draw correctly, I reckon a draw should be worth 3 points (pools style) as they are more difficult to predict. Any objections?
  5. After Monday's games Frankie has silenced his critics and moved top. You not heard their new signings ? Not a big enough fan. His 2-2 prediction for the Celtic v Ness game being a goal shy of the 2-3 scoreline, but closer than anyone else got. He also started something when he was first to predict Whalsay 3 Spurs 1. Elsewhere Marshall moves from 7th to 3rd with an impressive points haul of 7 on the night, but the biggest story of the league so far is the shocking start made by penfold. The man with all the scores couldn't forecast rain in a thunder storm at the moment. Rumour has it that he has approached JAStewart for lessons on how to shoot fish in a barrel. Frankie 14 EISTnWAST 10 Marshall 9 MiM 9 Mr Brain 8 brokenlink 8 Baxter 4 hellsbells 4 Stoichkov 4 penfold 3
  6. Here's the standings after Friday's games. I'm top on alphabetical order EISTnWAST 8 Frankie 8 MiM 8 Mr Brain 7 Baxter 2 brokenlink 2 hellsbells 2 Marshall 2 penfold 2 Stoichkov 2
  7. Today Alex Gowans, the chairman of the Heart of Midlothian Shareholders' Association, brightened up my morning. Here's the link to the story http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_3441112,00.html I loved this quote - "The reason Rangers and Celtic are at the top of the league is because they are the strongest teams." And chuckled when I read his response to Roman Romanov's claims that the SPL is fixed & refs cheat - "Nobody believes that. I don't know why he's coming out with things like that." I thought MiM had to be on a wind-up all this time. Now it has been confirmed
  8. Premier League Whalsay 4 v 2 Whitedale Celtic 5 v 1 Unst Ness 2 v 6 Spurs Thistle 3 v 1 Scalloway Monday, 21st April Premier League Celtic 3 v 1 Ness Utd Thistle 3 v 4 Whitedale Whalsay 5 v 1 Spurs Friday 25th April Premier League Unst 4 v 0 Yell Delting 6 v 1 Scalloway
  9. If somebody else could post the fixtures (I don't have any way to get them), I'll keep a league table of people taking part. Predicting the winner should be easy enough but the score would be a different kettle of fish.
  10. Does anyone fancy having a competition to see which Shetlinker is best at predicting the outcome of A team games? We could award 1pt for 1X2, and a bonus 5 pts for the correct result.
  11. Well with a ban on all A, B, & WL players, it looks like you may be one of the quickest players in the SL That's something that you couldn't even have dreamed of in your hey-day I really hope the no B or WL players rule isn't enforced to the letter. Looking at the B league fixtures, there seems to be little Sunday football for Ness B. Is one game a week enough for somebody who has been bored all winter, and done nothing but work on his fitness?
  12. Got it noo Great to see the SL (/Ness) doing it's best to cater for all standards of football in the South Mainland. I hope there's a good turnout for this. People like MiM have been demanding this sort of thing for a long time. Of course this can't be opened up to be Shetland wide, as the SL wouldn't want to be treading on anyone's toes. It is a shame though that there isn't an association county wide which is responsible for providing football for everyone More info on how this will work please.
  13. Sounds like the only differences between this and the old format is that there will be 7 players instead of 11, and only one trophy to play for. Southend should win quite easily with their vast numbers of A league players............
  14. ^ I can only assume you wanted to show everyone what is wrong with Scottish football and it's supporters, in one post.
  15. I thought this would stop after April 1st, but Frankie can't seem to resist. Even I can't defend the referee on this one. Shetlandbairn was right when he said that this one is up there with the Rivaldo and Dida incidents. I'm not even that bothered that he dived. It's him feigning injury that disgusts me. The SFA really should take action. If they don't then it only provides more evidence for people who believe that the SFA is corrupt [starting to agree with MiM on that one]. Frankie did mention one thing that is true - the dirty cheating Hearts player. I do like the way that you tried to distance your club from him MiM. So are you saying that a player who dives for his country would never dive for his club?
  16. Everybody will surely agree that it's easier to score goals playing for the OF than it is to score goals in the works league.
  17. You're right, even I don't think it's that simple. Maybe I was being lazy by saying religion is why most OF supporters don't act in a socially acceptable manner. You shouldn't be too hard on me though. When I read something about Celtic or Rangers, I expect to read something about football. I have little interest in the social values of the people living in the West of Scotland. I also expect to read something about sport when reading the sport section of the shetlink forum. Your first post was valid, but somebody really did need to say "MiM is right". Then the thread could have been locked, thus ensuring that only sport is discussed in the sports section.
  18. MiM is a very naughty boy for starting this thread. There wasn't much going on in the other threads for him to talk about the evil Old Firm, so he just used this topic as a way to get his daily fix The reason he is naughty, is that he knew nobody would come up with the correct reply. The first person to reply should have said Yes MiM, you're right[/Thread] BREAKING NEWS - MOST OLD FIRM FANS ARE RELIGIOUS BIGOTS Unless somebody has a way to solve the problem, there is nothing much to say on the issue that MiM hasn't already covered.
  19. Let's have the names MiM. It would be interesting to be able to judge the standard of the teams interested in playing SL7's. What I'm saying about players coming from their village could obviously be flexible. The most important thing is participation. It wouldn't be worth running the thing if Cunnigsburgh couldn't field a team because their best players joined a far superior side such as Bigton.
  20. The only thing I enjoy more on Shetlink than people having a go at Ballack, is when Ballack loses his temper. I wish we could have a Ballack-cam to see his reaction when he's reading this. I don't like to go back on topic like this, but I probably should. I agree with most of what Ballack said about the 7-a-side competition, apart from when he said I think it's a decent idea, but one major problem has been overlooked. I seem to recall F&J entering the Sandwick 5-a-side competition for the James Halcrow Memorial Cup, with a team which didn't exactly fit most people's idea of the spirit of the competition. I'm not saying F&J employed people on the basis of their ability to help them win a football competition. I am however saying that some of their players should have been playing for other teams in that competition. I'm sure it won't take long before a few people get together and create a team, which for arguments sake we'll call 'The Ringers'. I think it will only work if people play for their home team. So lets have:- Sandwick Social Club Revellers Roosty's Van VII Sandwick's Former Heroes (otherwise known as the back in the day brigade) Sumburgh Hotel Hardmen Boddam's Square Goalposts Ness Boating Club Showboaters Southend Potato Farmers Cunningsburgh Christians Cunningsburgh Alcoholics Burra Leather Jackets Burra's Scalloway Residents Burra ............. (insert own sheep related gag) Obviously there wouldn't be a way to qualify to play for a particular team (i.e owning a leather jacket or being an alcoholic), but all players in a team should come from the same village. I also need to say I am very disappointed that we got moderated For those who missed it, Ballack said that EistnWast & Captain Tibbs are the greatest players he has ever seen. He also said that he would buy them a case of lager if even one of them allowed him the privilege of competing on the same pitch as them again
  21. And after 10 minutes of laughing I just want to say - I can believe Ballack is stupid enough to post that
  22. Yellow cars have less accidents, but did you know pink cars have even fewer I'm sure Fjool meant to post this in the irrelevant thread
  23. Before I put Everybody v Referees on the list, do you know if anyone other than a few Shetlink members is actually against the increase in match fees for refs? (i.e is there anybody who matters against it)
  24. @penfold Unst v Yell Ness v Southern League Parish Cup Association v Lerwick Burra v Scalloway Works League v B League There are solutions available to all of these problems, but as long as clubs/associations/people are only interested in themselves, then nothing will change.
  25. You're right JAS, that is part of my point. As per usual most people aren't willing to look at the can of worms from both sides of the fence. What I was trying to do was encourage people to discuss the cause of the problem, and come up with a long term solution. I shouldn't really have wasted my time. If people were willing to do that, Shetland football wouldn't have as many problems as it does.
