  1. Hi, A bit of a long shot, but my daughter dropped her night time comforter yesterday, a thin grey and white monkey with with long arms and legs little pale pink nose either around Sumburgh lighthouse car park or at the Bonhoga gallery car park when we were out with relatives If anyone picked such a toy up could you please PM us, make little girl very happy . Thanks in advance.
  2. Lots of vets vaccinate pet rabbits on the mainland, they used to wait until they had enough pet rabbits on a waiting list and the vaccine shared which help reduce the costs. I remember getting my own pet rabbits vaccinated and vet saying some wild rabbits had also over years built up their own immune system to prevent them getting the diseae possibly by breeding with escaped pet rabbits. Its horrible disease where the rabbits dies a horrible long painful death.
  3. What transport costs to the parents, I thought transport was free ? or am I missing something ?
  4. Is the helicopter landing area going ? If so where is the new landing site ?
  5. I always remembered the Rolo's with the very hard toffee centres not like they are now that are very soft. Also Liquorish and aniseed twists, as opposed to the blackcurrent and aniseed that we have now.
  6. I was thinking the other day of some of the sweets from your childhood that you don't always or never see now like, nice to have less serious topic every now again Texan bar space dust cherry lips - might still get these anyone else want to share?
  7. Sands of sound does okay for a campsite, it doesn't matter if just breaking even it's not a loss and the main factor is it's bringing people to the island to spend money here , if there is no where to stay they not going come here and spend. Camping is a a cheaper option for a lot tourists.
  8. Maybe put the campsite on the Knab, no, someone will complain about the caravans and maybe residents will complain if a new primary school and disruption, if that get built there, in case of not in my back yard I don't have a issue new school being at clickimin but the council should find then a suitable site for the campsite and run it after all tourism is one of the Island main industries, and what now with rental houses being taken up with imported workers less holiday rents available so where are these tourist going stay . Also so long as the school doesn't spoil the surrounding area looking like a glorified multi storey carpark. Tourism seems to be getting completely overlooked as if it doesn't matter it might just be one small campsite and maybe to some unimportant compared to grandeur of a shiny new school but its is essential and important in a different way to the Island.
  9. Sometimes its not always possible to build completely away from where the children are, and depending how it's done maybe a new school on the same site is still possible if work is done in stages and as one stage completes the children start to use new buildings. Other schools must manage it when they have too, and i'm sure students at AHS can understand put up with some disruption. Lots of schools around the country have to build where the children are continued to be educated . Some disruption will happen but to build a new school on a completely different site just to avoid some disruption should not be main focus here. Too big a school and a fancy design to help a designer perhaps to create a name for himself rather than blending with surroundings is going to cost money and runs the risk of going way over budget. Rather than perhaps keeping things more simple ,practical, does the job and doesn't look some eyesore and comes within a sensible pricetag. Guess finding the right designer at the right price without too fancy ideas
  10. Hi, After looking at the plan why can't the school building go near the residential building / car park as the land there is flat and large enough to put the building on according to the plans and that way Shetland also gets to keep the much needed campsite. As there are no drawings as to what this new school is supposed to look like I hope it's not going to look like a multi storey car park or the Mareel it will look like a blot on the landscape.
  11. Hi, Will planning not just re-zone it somehow to suit the councils needs ?
  12. I thought the original idea was to build the new AHS on the original site then this got changed or am I wrong ?
  13. By doing all the above they free up 2 more sites for more housing development. and build the new Anderson schhol on land that would not get developed, this sounds like massaging the planning rules to maximise council gain.
  14. How about the council be honest, and print all the pro's and con's for both sites and ballot the whole of Shetland to find out the opinion of the people, instead of just listening to people who can turn up to consultation days/evenings. That way they would get a better idea of what people of Shetland would prefer with such an important decision to be made which everyone will have to look at for years to come.
  15. Hi, If the new hospital goes where the old AHS is now this will free up land at the old GBH to be sold off for housing and the NHS would be buying the land from the council at the knab. I personally still feel uncomfortable to be having the new AHS on the campsite, what I think is just to free up any potential land and we also loose a campsite in Lerwick which tourists need. I also think the school in that area will also spoil the whole look of that particular area. Is it really so out of the realms of possibility to be building the new AHS on the old site or is there some other reason more to the point which now made the council change their mind from their original decision to build on the old site. How could you get planning permission on a site such as the campsite that you probably would not get planning permission for any other development ? Unless it is to benefit the council is some way ?
  16. Hi, Couple of questions if anyone knows. If the new AHS is built on land behind the Clickimin that wouldn't get planning permission for anything else, eg housing or industry what is going to happen to the old AHS land ? Would this get sold off as a potential giant housing estate thus lining the council pockets or are there other plans for this land? I don't know anywhere else in Lerwick that would free up land for the council to sell off so easily?
  17. I agree the thread has gone off topic form cost of transport to costs generally and what money is being spent on.
  18. Hi, Having worked for the NHS myself on the wards in England and Scotland I know only too well how some staff work very hard indeed. The healthcares have time to clean as part of their job description. The GBH is nowhere near a very busy hospital, it's tiny, and nightstaff on Any ward will have enough time to clean a fan or two as well as commodes etc. My partner also worked for the NHS and on one very demanding stroke unit the healthcare had time to clean all the commodes ,bedpans, fans, stands ,pumps etc EVERY NIGHT. Regularly cleaned, no build up, lot quicker job. No excuses. If fans are being chucked away as you say because they are dirty, they are not being cleaned and your mplying the staff are not cleaning them . I'm saying yes they do have time to clean as part of their job.
  19. Its part of the job description to clean . The fans would not all be in use all at same time, so there enough time to clean, you could go some weeks of no use of them.
  20. Hi, Absolute rubbish, . The excuses honestly heard it all now, even when I worked in large teaching hospital we managed to clean to good enough standard and things were certainly not overlooked the work got done The health cares have more than enough time to clean. Otherwise your paying them stand around and do nothing. Its a small hospital with not alot of patients. They could be given a proper good clean at night when patients are sleeping and less to do at same time clean all commodes and give them a good scub. If nurses can bring books into read at night they got time to do some cleaning.
  21. Hi, Just re-read my post cleaning can be done by all levels of nursing staff, healthcare or staff nurse.
  22. So what you are saying is old fans weren't banned they just weren't getting cleaned. Surely a healthcare can clean and if done regularly you would not get a build up and therfore would not take as long come on its not like NHS Shetland is a large teaching hopsital with that many patients they so run off their feet all the time. When there not alot on surely you can do a deeper clean along with commodes etc it sounds like excuse. Dyson ones look nightmare to clean all those tiny holes which you cannot get cotton wool bud even in to going take just as longer if not longer to clean. So how are you going get the dirt micoorganisms out of those tiny holes after patient coughed ,sneezed or even vomited in area
  23. Paulb, you were the one who said the old fans had been banned, but you didn't state who banned them, you implied NHS Scotland had banned them but without evidence to back this up this could just be another smoke screen by Nhs Shetland to justify spending money on expensive fans that are still difficult to clean around everyone of those tiny holes.
