  1. sunny29 "Just wondering, is this not how your blood was being tested? It's the only way I've ever done it..." So you check the batch number of the strip to make sure it is the same number as the machines reading and tell the patient? You then ensure that the blood drop goes on the strip within 15 seconds? I did not post this as an attack on anyone. I posted this as a warning to all patients to take care as things can be missed. As a patient I will be aware of how much warfarin I'm given. If I feel there is a possible problem, then I will let lt be known both to the professionals and the users. I do however congratulate you for doing your job correctly as I'm sure most of our nurses do. To fellow users be vigilant and keep safe, warfarin is a dangerous drug. Your life can depend on correct procedure.
  2. An update to the above. I was contacted by NHS Shetland a little later and they seem to be acting on the problem.
  3. May I suggest that all warfarin users, check out this website. How to test – CoaguChek® XS System – Roche. Navigate to "How to test", and ensure these direction are followed at your next inr test. The time limit getting the blood droplet to the strip is crucial to avoid incorrect readings. I have spoken to the Roche Mannheim office to ensure that I was correct, before posting this message. I also contacted the NHS Shetland to warn them. I am still waiting for a reply. Regards, Rex.
  4. (Rapped over the knuckles. Not allowed back at Freefield sitting at home on full pay! How many more are like that. That's the way the money goes pop go the council!) So that is how it has gone? I would now like our present councillors to publicly reply to this travesty of justice, before the elections! This is a perfect way to show that you are genuinely interested in helping the people that may vote for you. May I also reccommend that the powers that be re-read what Corporate responsibility is.
  5. Perfect just gulp it! I was hoping to find out what had happened to this lady and to offer some support. Regards, Bresail
  6. What happened to this truthful lady? Did the gestapo get her or, is she hidden away in an attic? Was she tortured? Is she Jewish? regards, bresail.
  7. Hi there, I have recently started making musical instrumentrs. I have at the moment two proto-type Kora type instruments. An almost finished, just cosmetic work needed, impressive, large and loud, (22" goatskin head), hand drum. I may change the head to a cowskin, which I have. Another hand drum which is waiting in the wings. In my corridor I have a 4 octave xylophone, this is at the keys cut and mountings stage. I have devised an Orff type mounting for the keys and will eventually convert this instrument to Marimbas/Balafons. So, what is my problem? I am now at the stage where I must tune the keys in, which I know how to do, I have little knowledge of music theory, heptatonic, septatonic etc,. Any advice welcomed. Regards, Bresail
  8. How about in the elections only voting for people who are wishing to help Shetland and not just themselves. Who are not blatantly nepotic, who are not their brothers keepers even when they unknowingly approve monies to family members. Who do not spend our money like kids in a sweet shop. Who also care for the future of their own children. Why can we not prosecute the money wasters for gross neglect. I've written all the above when all we really need are honest decent, uncorrupt persons with guts. To the outgoing members or mummers. J'accuse! Regards, Rex.
  9. It seems that they had received prior information of accommodation before they set off. Other places in the UK are starting to tighten up on their housing allocations and from next year it will harder for non entitled people to bluff their way through. Do a search for housing cheats, benefit cheats and children used in benefit scams. etc:
  10. "did you ask them why theyd done this i would not think this is a comon story because as that demonstrates theres no advantage to it" The advantage was that they received emergency accommodation. They could now be awaiting permanent housing, where they would be allowed to have two chickens and a dog.
  11. "The council has laid to rest the “myth†that incomers are jumping ahead of people on the housing list." Have they? "Mr Wishart told fellow members many people had a perception of “anti-discrimination†in the council. “I get a lot of enquiries about housing, and one thing that’s often said when people are upset or distressed is an allegation of people coming in through the south mouth and getting one straight away. That needs to be put to rest.†Head of housing Anita Jamieson said the council had to deal with every homeless presentation “in accordance with statutory guidanceâ€. Does this really answer any questions? Other members said they had heard similar comments from their own constituents. Cecil Smith said he regularly faced enquiries. “My answer is a policy and procedure is in place. It’s the most we can ever do.†Is this an answer? Caroline Miller jumped to the council’s defence over its record on homelessness. “I’m proud that we live in a society that takes care of folk who don’t have a roof over their heads. We’ve come on leaps and bounds in those whole country over the last 50 years. I can remember as a child seeing folk living in cardboard boxes. It’s great that we look after folk.†This is also a non answer! As a child of the thirties I too am proud that we take care of folk who don't have a roof over their heads. Do we now take it that some of the people being housed have spent all of their lives without a home? Of course they haven't! What some have done is given up their housing and moved up here to be housed. So is the answer that the people who grew up here and can't find housing should move and armed with the knowledge of the lies to tell apply for housing elsewhere?
  12. hellsbells, I have heard of a case where a couple were living in privately rented housing. They applied to a council and told them that they were having to live with an elderly relative, (grandmother). This was untrue. They were given housing by the council due to the unsuitability of the supposed grannies property. Now, surely the council would have checked on the property and the truth of the mythical situation. Or maybe they were advised to make up the tale. I have even heard of a council holiday home. SBFARRTP
  13. I will apologise for my comment about the swamping above. "A more "robust" approach would actually involve more help and support for the problem tenants, if you really wanted to help them." What if the person moving in, with all legal requirements signed and sealed instantly becomes a problem resident and why would this happen? The rights of tenure now comes into force and depending on whether the tenant has an assured tenancy or not, it seems that they can now become a nuisance. If you move into unsuitable housing it doesn't matter, you are now housed and if you and your wife and kids get together again, you will probably get more suitable housing. This is not a majority problem but it does happen. If you are lucky enough to get a meeting to discuss the problems that other residents are having , I will give you some stock replies that you may get. 1.There are things happening in the background that we are not able to discuss! 2.I do not want to discuss the problem without the nuisance being present. This is despite the problem person being asked to attend and refusing. 3.When it was thought that a minor may be in danger, being told and I quote, "We like to believe that there is no danger." No.1. Was the most used. I honestly believe that there was some collusion between the above nuisance and somewhere else that was helping the person getting better housing. How come that the housing officer did not know that the above person had moved in, despite being in the same office as the people who moved him in.?
  14. Scorrie, I count anyone that abuses a system, a dishonest person. Mucklejo, It was because of your post on another thread that made me open this one. Reference your sister. "They told her that if she'd been a nuisance neighbour and either made lot's of noise, vandalised the place etc then she would have been housed." This is true, I know of a person that was exactly that, a nuisiance neighbour. His neighbours complained so he was moved from single accommodation, to a double bedroom place in Lerwick. Who was that place earmarked for? A similar type of thing was done in Whalsay. The council has a duty to house homeless people but not, "deliberately self made homeless." So if a person moves from where he is living England ,Wales, Scotland, Mongolia and tries to obtain housing in Shetland, have they made themselves homeless? Of course they have! Let us now add to the above sentence and say that the person is suffering from a particularly stressful divorce /separation. Does this change the situation? If the person receives a home and then gets back together with their husband/wife etc. Do they give up their home or apply for a larger home. George, of course it happens here. I will bet that tomorrow, the !st of November it will happen again.
  15. It seems that a lot of people do not know how to apply for housing. There are many organisations that can help. Outreach is one. The Housing Outreach role is to provide support and assistance to vulnerable people, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, with the aim of enhancing their ability to sustain and manage their existing accommodation. To enable this they are expected to develop links to other existing and planned outreach services e.g. mental health, domestic abuse, drugs and alcohol with a view to providing a holistic package of support. They give you a list of problems that you may have or develop. See above. Just remember you do not have to tell the truth when applying. If you are asked; 1/ Are you married? Answer! No, separated/divorced/hate him or her. 2/ Are you ill? Answer .Depressed/ suicidal etc. 3/ Can your parents help? Answer. No, they hate me. 4/ Do you have children. Answer. Leave this open for later. Some people have used other organisations to obtain housing, “The illicit trade in children - sold by their parents, some while still babies, to criminal gangs and people traffickers - has been uncovered by a Sunday Telegraph investigation. An undercover reporter was offered several children for sale by their parents in Nigeria: two boys aged three and five for £5,000, or £2,500 for one, and a 10-month-old baby for £2,000. Teenage girls - including some still pregnant - were willing to sell their babies for less than £1,000. One international trafficker, tracked down in Lagos, claimed to be buying up to 500 children a year.†These kids will come with a birth certificate proving that you, your partner, cat or dog are the legal parents. You have now hopefully received a small place of your own. Your ex husband /boyfriend/girlfriend decide to get together again, you have had your baby. You are now overcrowded and need a bigger place. There are genuine, honest needy people out there but unfortunately the dishonest are swamping the honest ones in Britain Thank goodness that this cannot happen here.
  16. Right, I have got over my anger at Skittur boy's racist abuse, which in fact is illegal, but, obviously allowed on this forum. I have nothing against any person that wishes to put me right on any points! I am an incomer/ soothmoother and I am and have been learning about other cultures all my life. Here is an example of why I used the term neo-nazi. Is this close enough? "In many parts of the world today, *soothmootherophobia* is part and parcel of the xenophobic racism of right-wing fringe groups, parties, religious sects and individuals, which draw upon their local cultures and traditions in the expression they give to social, economic and religious protest, particularly against the minorities in their midst." *Transformed from Judeophobia.* So back to the original topic. My argument is that native fish have been predated on for longer than Skitturboy's ancestry. They also, like us, use the easiest way of obtaining food. So a bundle of fish crammed in a bag are easy prey. Basically we humans have introduced snackbars for fish. I worked for a long while on Icelandic fishing boats, (I was also a resident of Vestmannaeyer.) When we shot nets inshore our haddock were often eaten by seals and the nets destroyed. The answer to this was not a hatred but an acceptance of nature, so, we moved our nets. I am not against a legal cull of any animal but it should be accompanied by human intervention by making the salmon nets seal proof. Quick reference to bonxies on Foula. "Abstract Between 1973 and 1980, sheep ate parts of at least 680 live Arctic Tern chicks and at least 10 Arctic Skua chicks on Foula. This predation was almost completely confined to the dry heath habitat in the southeast corner of Foula. Characteristically, the sheep bit off one or both legs or wings, or more rarely the head. Three different sheep were observed eating chicks, but the habit is probably widespread among sheep on that part of the island. It seems probable that sheep make up nutrient deficiencies by eating chicks. Although up to 8% of chicks were eaten by sheep, losses were low compared with egg desertion and chick starvation, but predation by sheep may have contributed to terns deserting this colony in favour of areas away from sheep." Regards, Rex. Sory about the tipo's.
  17. I was enjoying this debate before the neo-nazi element reared its head. So exit stage left. Arbeit Macht Frei. Regards, Rex.
  18. There is a rumour that bonxies peck out the eyes of lambs/sheep, the same for crows and ravens and most large gulls. I do not doubt that a sickly lamb may be pecked to check if it is live or dead. Could even a bonxie kill a lamb I would like some proof of this. They will pick up the afterbirth however, which is a good way of keeping the flies down. This has also been going on for millenia. Shepherds used to stay with their flocks constantly, now they use binoculars. If you value your sheep then look after them. As for the example of rabbits eating our veggies and salads, with correct fencing techniques rabbits can be excluded. I will agree that the rabbits shoud be culled at the moment but that is good husbandry and has to be ongoing. The supposed increases in seals could be that fish factories sluice their offal into the sea. If you shoot rabbits, then take them home, this will prevent, " vermin", from proliferating. How many thousands of rabbit carcases are left to feed the bonxies and gulls each year? If you just want to shoot things join the army, your country needs you. The only problem is you may be shot. Don't allow your bloodlust to cloud your judgement. Regards, Rex.
  19. How many millenia? Regards, Rex.
  20. " Better a lump of lead in the head than a long lingering decline, but that's just me." Don't do it ghost. Things will get better! Why are bonxies under fire? Regards, Rex.
  21. "The one thing this shows is that folks from the south or soothmoothers if you prefer should mind their own business. It is their blind interfering in things they don't comprehend that is screwing up this planet, not just Shetland. Take a trip out to Foula you wont hear many birds singing, as the few that survive have learned to keep quiet or get killed by Bonxies, it wasn't like that twenty odd year ago. for years Shetland folks have shot bonxies and seals to control their numbers and yet they are still here, now if we carry on as we always have we would be jailed and pilloried by the likes of you." There is nothing better than to read an argument that is comletely false! Why not change your name to Skutti strauker or alan. What on earth have the bonxies done wrong? "The first record of Bonxies being in Shetland dates from 1774 when George Low found three pairs in Unst and six or seven pairs in Foula. He reported: “In Foula this is a privileged bird, no man will nor dare shoot it under the penalty of 16s. 8d. Ster., nor destroy its eggs; when they meet it at sea, whatever fish they have in the boat Skua always gets a share, and all this out of gratitude for beating off the Eagle, who dares not venture to prey on the island during the whole breeding season.†Please get your facts straight and read your history. As for there not many songbirds in Foula think about why? Regards, Rex. (another soothmother, who is not blind).
  22. So we are back to blaming the seals for eating all the fish. Are they the animals that destroy the the seabeds and overfish? Are they the animals that fish from the bottom of the foodchain? Do they fish for the pleasure of watching something die? Do they fish out of greed? Should poachers be shot? Inshore fishing has improved all over the world because we humans clear huge areas of the oceans and drive the remaining fish inshore. We put lots of fish farms as snackbars for seals. We also kill Dunters for eating the mussels from the ropes. Yet we kill undersea life by using cupro products to protect the salmon. We land illegal fish secretly. Maybe BP could blame the seals for biting through their pipelines. Yes the seals and the other sea creatures have lots to answer for. If the villains who killed the seals are caught they should receive a hefty custodial sentence and their gun licence revoked for life. I fish for food, I also eat rabbits and have eaten whale, snakes, monkey, turtles and dolphin. I do not kill for pleasure. Regards, Rex.
  23. Using Occam's razor may narrow down who notified the press and why, in, at least one case. The Romeo and Juliet scene in the alley, that was published in the press could be a very large clue. I am almost certain that if you stand in the alley you will be able to pinpoint the place where the picture was taken. This would not prove who took the picture but who was complicit in taking the picture. No, I have not tried it! Regards, Rex.
  24. It seems to be easier than I thought to nominate someone for an award, All that is needed are a sponsor and two support letters. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/UKgovernment/Honoursawardsandmedals/DG_067917 So hereby I am canvassing for an award. In fact I can find a sponsor and a few to support it, all it will take is a couple of bottles of cider I have a strong background of deeds that can be used to back up my nomination. The biggest benefit that I have done for Shetland is, I have not been a member of the council, so I have not wasted any £1000s. I am honest. I have also not brought Shetland into disrepute. There are well deserving awards however but, this Cluness one is ridiculous. It does however follow a trend of proving that controversy and infamy follows him. His cronies have made a mockery out of the awards system and denigrated the honourable ones. Regards, Rex. Justice does not exist.
  25. I am also looking for my laptop and bag. I last spoke to the guy about a week before he closed and he didn't mention that he was finishing. All info welcome. Regards, Rex.
