  1. We are thinking of switching to satellite broadband as we are so fed up with the sub standard of isp's and the slow broadband speed we are getting (in Lerwick!) We are aware it is expensive to install but would like to have some feedback on download speeds, reliability etc. Has anyone tried it?
  2. In my case the technician at Netgear (hats off to them for service) contacted Plusnet who said they would send a text, which did not arrive. Could have been to mobile signals being intermittent on that particular day, but it has happened before. As I said previously the promised phone calls from engineers within 72hours have never happened and I do have an answer machine just in case.
  3. If plusnet develop a fault on my line the broadband connection does not "kick in" automatically once the line re instates so a full re install of service is necessary before I can get on line again, the equipment I have is fine that has been checked out so the fault is at their end which they have admitted. This is why I have thus far avoided the £60 fee they charge if the fault is with the customer equipment. I didnt have any problems with tiscali and as far back as when freeserve were still a provider my connection has been good it is only since I switched provider problems developed. Roll on 8 months when I will change to someone else.
  4. I have been with Plus net for about 4 months having previously been with tiscali, plusnet offered a cheaper service which is why I switched. My advice is if you can get a better or comparable deal elsewhere then avoid them! I am computer "savvy" but have had no end of problems connecting, service dropping out, slow dowload speed and escalating costs. On one occasion I was without internet for over a week and I have just spent two very frustrating days being passed from one "technician to the other trying to sort out yet another out age. They use internet for correspondence. so if you have a fault it is practically impossible to contact them, and they tend to refer you to engineers who will contact you within 72hrs and never do. Yet again with perserverence I have managed to get my service up and running again myself, it just takes a while and I have to put up with angry teenagers whilst doing so. I am living with this service until my contract is up and will then go elsewhere that does what it says on the box.
  5. Anyone heard if schools are open Tuesday, at the moment there is a thaw but doubt if that will be the case overnight
  6. My teenage son would be very keen, and I know of a few of his friends who would also be interested. Wouldn't think you would have much difficulty getting numbers, might be more difficult to keep them at a manageable level. Are you going to keep people posted on progress?
