  1. As regards a northmavine team I don't see that as being feasible as only Mervin Jamieson from the Delting team is from northmavine and from the Tizers only one or two are from the northmavine area... The vast majority of the Delting and Tizers team come from Brae with exception to one "ness man", although I hear he's considering a move north o the vidlin junction shortly...
  2. I for one think its good to see the self-named "Spurs Party Boys" starting the season with a bang and playing football "the way it should be played". I heard that they played with ten men for much of the game against Whalsay and still managed to keep a clean sheet, that in itself is very impressive. Surely if they maintain this kind of form they won't be far from the title come September. Any thoughts?
  3. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what the scenario is come the end of the season, whether goal difference counts or whether teams records against one another will be the deceiding factor? Just that with a few heavy defeats inevitable I thought it would make more sense to exclude goal difference as this may help discourage teams from running up scores into the double figures! Any Ideas?
  4. I think the two young boys have made the right choice and have shown a mature attitude. They are both still under 18's and are in the junior county squad so they will be playing plenty of football and to suggest they won't get their chance at Delting A's is ridiculous. You said only Alan Duncan and Ross Macdougall have broken through in recent years, what about Danny Peterson, Fraser Hall, Robert Balfour and Neil Hay. All are squad players who throughout the season play their part in the team. Without a squad any team will struggle, and these two players are on the brink of breaking through and displacing more established players in the squad, it's now up to them to show the application and drive to make them 'undropable'.
  5. What Young Delts is this Unst are trying to sign? Is this a season long loan or a more a permanent fixture? Any takers?
  6. I understand Unst are to play the vast majority of their games on a saturday. In my eyes this may pose several problems for a number of teams due to players having work commitments. If Unst can play midweek then why can they not play on monday and friday? This would also give then the added bonus that should they get to a final then they'd get to play on their oh so sacred saturday. What time of kick offs are proposed for games in Unst? Dinner Time to help reduce crowd troubles and limit the time supports have in the pub before kick off or later in the day when rowdy drunken supporters will be at the hight of their vociferous antics!
  7. I'm not too sure about your predictions either commodore. It sounds like Thistle could really struggle next season. I think Delting will be stronger, Whalsay much the same as last year then I wouldn't be surprised if Whitedale were the surprise package of the league and finish 3rd. After that I'd expect everyone to be capable of beating one another, perhaps sadly with the exception of Yell who unless they accept that their going to have to go it alone and face up to the challenge in hand, they will ultimately prop up the table.
  8. I don't think that the reorganisation of the league system is detrimental to the "smaller" teams. It's up to those players to raise their game when playing against better teams and players as opposed to "going through the motions" in the B League. The SFA'a argument that if you can get 11 players on the park for a B League game, then you can get 11 players on the park for an A League game, is a valid one! This will make for a more exciting league as the "6 pointers" between competing teams, say Delting vs Whalsay, Yell vs Unst will have greater significance due to only playing one another home and away! As opposed to 3 and even 4 times in the past few seasons!
  9. Baxter, Delting split into two separate teams? Are you having a laugh? Thats' the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a long while! Deltings' success has not just come about over night, it's taken years of voluntary work throughout the parish to create the team that takes the park now! As for the fixtures problems regarding Unst can anyone tell me what the plans are as there are clearly not enough saturdays in an already short season to host all their games? I still think Unst are being shortsighted in their approach. they WILL lose players to injury, suspension and to the Junior County, having the option to bring in boys fron Yell would surely benefit them in times like these!
  10. I thought Michael Williamson was hanging up his boots and taking over as Whalsay manager? Or am I a bit misguided here! Any glaring omissions in anyones eyes in the county pool?
  11. I agree with wheesht on this one! Northern Rovers would not only get more boys a regular game of football, but with the a good manager and the correct application from the players they could not only take part but compete with a real chance of "doing over" some of the so called "big teams". As for Burra and Scalloway each to their own, personally I never understood the split in the first place. An ageing workman like scalloway team lost half their players and instead of having one competitive A league team essentially two B league teams were created.
  12. Any updates on the current situation? Is there to be a committee meeting on the 1st of February? I hope for the good of football in Shetland Unst and Yell will see sense and combine! Surely it can't be too difficult for them to come to some sort of a compromise and provide a A & B teams. As for Unst wanting to retain their name... get over it, all their young players have grown up playing for Northern Rovers and that is the future! The futures bright.. The futures Northern Rovers...
