Yes but they didnt and that allowed Shetland's Social care and culture to survived until 2013 albeit with a severe reduction of local speakers thanks to the Uk educational system who would like everyone to talk a version of Inverneesion and learn French when the first foreign person they are likley to meet this far north will not be French.

As for the topic, you can find out about costs of care quite easily. Although you pay for the accommodation and social side of things, the medical/treatment should still be supplemented elsewhere this is why we have the NHS. The Charitable Trust provided funding to help those on the island with those costs but had to withdraw. The prices are worked on an average, the cost of providing care at Nordalea is far higher than in Lerwick.

 

Last years costs were a maximum of £1062 per week.
