  1. for all those that voted against locking this piece of work indefinately i can only wish that it is your house he breaks into next time he's out. or maybe you should fund his habbit so he does not need to rob the rest of us.
  2. better yet when they find that one of their own is not on the straight and narrow they should prosecute with the full force of the law and not sweep it under the carpet. The majority that do their jobs well are undermined by those that don't. you are not going to get the headlines for doing your job the way you are supposed to but damn sure headlines are made when you don't.
  3. hae ta disagree about the oysters best ive ever eaten come from Island Oysters in Yell. large meaty and trully delicious, and most folks i know that do a lot of travelling agree, give them a try next time your home.
  4. I had a job then and was doing it when certain officers swore blind that I was elsewhere doing other things. On the contrary I would say it was this that gave me a deep mistrust of all things official and set my back up against authority. probably set me back a few years if anything.
  5. maybe if the bowling alley had more than just bowling it might of been more of a success, even on the mainland the alleys that have other attractions seem to do better.
  6. On matters of local policing then and it was a fair few years ago Sherlock so you may not know of them but 2 names come to mind Cox and Patience, anyone have anything good to say about those 2. Not that i have had much contact with the local police for many years but they certainly seem on the whole to be a damn sight better than they were when those 2 for want of a better word pilticks were on the force. Lies made up most of their reports getting knocked about while under the age of 16 was common with those 2, it may have been a long time ago but their behaviour certainly makes me view the police with suspicion even to this day.
  7. A bowling alley and cinema venue together might make more sense than the current mareel proposal
  8. whar can I get a ticket might as well delete this post too trout as it only made sense when the previous posts were still there
  9. Fact, Shetland is a rural environment and with that comes all sorts of rural activities farming being the primary one. If you do not wish to live with rural activities on your doorstep please feel free to leave for somewhere a bit more urban.
  10. When I were a lad the council put a questionair around all the schools in Shetland asking what facilities we wanted at the Clickimin ten pin bowling came top of the wants list. But unfortunately the leasure and rec department wasn't too interested in what we wanted. When I questioned a senior memeber about why we were getting an indoor bowling green and not the ten pin bowling we had overwhelmingly asked for [mod edit] he came out with was astonishing to say the least. 1. no one wanted ten pin bowling but there was great demand for indoor carpet bowls. 2. ten pin bowling alleys were very complex mechanically and there was no one qualified in Shetland to repair them when they broke down.(funny how we manage every other bit of machinery but not this) While this discusion was taking place an elderly lady who spent a lot of her time at the bowling green in King Harald street informed me that this gentelman also played bowls but was always complaining about the weather. I would say that alone was the reason we got a state of the art carpet at Clickimin and not ten pin bowling. If we can subsidise every other aspect of recreation in Shetland why not this?
  11. he wasn't prosecuted for getting high but for theft, [mod edit] reoffends, how much time and money is wasted invetigating the crime repairing the damage down while commiting the crime, social workers doing a background report on the poor peerie souls hard life, the cost to the individual or buisness [mod edit], etc etc. I woulsd say [mod edit] not for rehabilitation [mod edit] If not then we may get a moral backlash where themes like eugenics start to get a hearing again. And I am pretty sure all you liberal thinkers out there would rather [mod edit] was locked up than we go down that road.
  12. [mod]Content removed through T&C violation and being unsubstantiated personal opinion[/mod] With soft sentencing like this the US system of 3 strikes and your out looks very appealing

  19. Have to agree about streamline tracking a parcel online told me it was in Shetland, calling streamline they also told me it was in Shetland still had to wait 4 days for it to travel the last 10 miles to my house. went into streamline to collect it and they refused to get it for me. Shetland transport on the other hand give a great service, as do northwards
  20. I think you will find there is no such thing as a bargain in tescos iether
  21. If you find staff to be rude tell them that you think so tell the boss that you think so, if it is the boss that is rude then they won't survive long in buisness, and you won't have to worry about it. Too many on here look for reasons not to shop localy instead of looking for reasons why they should. I'll give you an example of why you buy localy I bought a van up here and it was not a good purchase I went back to the garage and got fobbed off by the staff working there, I then spoke to the owner of the garage who agreed to buy back the van and find me a better one without it costing me any more money. Do you honestly think that if I had bought the van from south I would of had the same result when things went wrong. Example 2 i bought a couple of cloches from ebay and when they arrived they were not as advertised i contacted the seller right away and told them I was not happy with the product, they then entered into a long period of emails back and fore promising to sort it out but never acctually doing anything low and behold once the time period for leaving feedback was passed they told me to sausage off, I informed ebay and copied all correspondance to their complaints department only to get an automated reply that I had gone over the time period allowed for them to follow up the complaint. tough titty. I will shop on the internet if i can't get the product I am after locally. But remember when it comes to returns you will find that the cost of returning faulty goods south far outways the cost of the goods in the first place.
  22. you still in your bedroom in unst Claudias, i was hoping you had gone to palestine to be with explosive buddies
  23. Imagine how expensive life will be up here when there are no shops because it is no longer viable to open up every day for the few customers willing to spend their money localy. Yes i will admit that some local traders do take the piss and they will have to change to survive, but how many folk even give the local shops a chance. prices are based on volume of trade the more you sell the lower a markup you can afford to put on any item, Shetland buisnesses are restricted by population and if half the population choose to spend their money outwith the island how can they ever hope to reduce prices. As well as working offshore I do have a lot of experiance of retail trade so i am not talking out my muckle sphincter when i say this.
