Please view this post: https://www.shetlink.com/index.php?/topic/8284-unseen-economy-a-retrospective-look-at-shetlink-classifieds/?p=202320and the subsequent reply. Is it the same problem - and does this fix it?

Shetlink has a PM: Private Messaging system. If you don't put a number on your classified - then Shetlink 'members' have to log into Shetlink to communicate with you through the PM system. You'll get notification and messages will appear in: https://www.shetlink.com/index.php?app=members&module=messaging

Contacted through PM

There are instances, yes
-
If it's an email for every single new ad. Check the front page of the classifieds and click the button to "unsubscribe" at the top right hand side. The same can be done if it's just for a particular category you may have subscribed to - go into that category and click the same button.

Thanks. Yes, 'serious' bit of a blip there .... should all be smoothed over ... carry on...
-
Can you guys try that again.. there did indeed appear to be a database error!
Apologies!
-
Do feel free to add some further information - such as error message and the process you took to get to the error. We're not hearing of any other issues in regards the PM system.

Peat, this is Shetland, this is an issue in Shetland, you are not in Shetland and your understanding and appreciation of the issue is severely restricted at best. Folk in Shetland know what will, or won't work in the Shetland situation, your experience and "wisdom" gleaned on the sidelines of the great highways and byeways of of northern Englandshire are about as relevant and helpful to the Shetland situation as the finer points of traversing the roads from hell in the mountains of Peru.
ROFL .. roll on floor and all the whatevers.
Out in the open. This is pretty much why everyone want's to caress you with the side of an old LHD fishbox; rusty nails and all, shetlandpeat, no?

Clouds are responsible for rain did you know? They're part of what's known as the water cycle.

Hi. Shame that no-one answered. Unaware of any existing but, it's certainly a great of learning by discussing similar code problems and eeking you over that bump that the answer is just staring you in the face and you can't see.
Anyone?
-
Depending on the category it will do that i.e. flag up as a 'type'.
Stick something like 0.01 and then detail POA in title / description. Hardly ideal but, will get you there.

Is it just me or is both of your posts in this thread, shetlandpeat, just rambling and passive aggressive?
To go on it now [...].
Go on what? What does this even mean in the context of the wider sentence. Medication? A bike?
We here have systems, they also cost to use, it is however, the community that has discovered who the offenders were.
Eh?
We here have systems, too. Yes, systems. I have systems. They have systems. Some systems. Big systems. Small systems. Do daa diddy doo.
It cannot be the councils fault in many ways, folk are really responsible for how they dispose of their waste. Consumers need to be a bit more proactive, under WEEE regulations and packaging laws, the consumer can expect the supplier to take these upon delivery. It would be something to work with the council with. It does work, you need to find folk who are willing.
I think this is probably how you've ended up de-railing a possibly useful thread, no? Trying to stick up for "councils". A council. Any council. Every council. To give some form of super-super-insight into goodness only knows what?
Certainly people do have a responsibility to dump "responsibly". They also require the means and avenues to do this. Perhaps there is no correlation between skip removal and illegal dumping? Yet, on the flipside, perhaps there is? There are definitely other avenues of waste removal available in Shetland with the use of common sense and common decency!!
What is pertinent is that ideally, the people who dumped that mess at the side of the road will see this thread and be suitably ashamed and know in their hearts that they really are useless human beings.
I'm not even sure now why I'm replying to this as I feel I've been dragged into a dirty troll net! Why would that be?

SHETLAND’S enormous bi-annual fund raising event Relay for Life has beaten its own extraordinary record by raising more than £300,000. The announcement was made at Sound hall on Friday night when the Relay committee held a “thank you evening” for all the people who took part in the event which took place overnight from 31 May to 1 June at the Clickimin running track in Lerwick. The phenomenal fund raising effort had already raised £200,000 before the big night, so this year's total of £306,560.76 was not completely unexpected, convincingly beating 2012’s £275,000 record – the most successful event of its kind anywhere in Europe.

Tesco planning permission refused
- Originally published by and copyright of www.orcadian.co.uk
An extension at Tesco in Kirkwall, to be used for an internet ordering home delivery service, has been refused planning permission. Members of the OIC planning committee heard today that 42 objections to the proposal had been received, primarily concerned at the economic impact it would have on the town centre and rural shops. OIC [...]

I'm more than sure you've checked the T&C's of Shetlink and having multiple accounts and talking to yourself is both tiresome and not very good etiquette here or anywhere else on the big bad Interweb?
-
Hi. Can you contact me through PM to pin down what has transpired. Thanks.

Hi,
The notification should be to your PM inbox and an email is also fired your way as a prompt if that is setup in your notification options http://www.shetlink.com/index.php?app=core&module=usercp&tab=core&area=notifications - it is by default unless changed. For instance, either by a user, or if the email bounces etc. or someone marks it as spam then Shetlink will not send any further emails.
If it's an ask question feature - where you have the choice to display it to the open public then only an email is sent by way of notification.
Interesting that you're kinda the other way around i.e. no PM .. *rubs chin* - was it a public question thingy?

Great concept Pooks. Likin it.
Always been ponderous on the "Moorie" as in people saying "Blind Moorie" for blizzard. Was / is this not a mis-print/saying and should be "Moorin" aka "Blind Moorin" as in can't find your way in to your boats mooring due to blizzard conditions? Happy to be told otherwise.

You cannot be too careful.
Any how, the irony....
Possibly, but, you can also spread lies, misinformation, and general stoness.

Thanks for your indepth and amazing understanding of computers, the internet, everything really - and for spreading a shocking rumour that Shetlink is spreading malware that is trying to lock peoples computers and demand money from them
Having seen the same thing over an extended period of time have been attempting to track down the 4th party advertiser whom is slipping these into our 3rd party advertisers advertisements and a) remove b ) remove 3rd party advertiser. These adverts are at worst stupid links, and or will ask you to download stupid things - along with the installation/update of java. These things you would want not to install: http://www.anvisoft.com/resources/how-to-remove-java-2014down-com-pop-up-ads/ for an example of the things appearing. Some anti-virus etc. will flag as positive.
Why does Shetlink have adverts you say? The Interweb ain't free ladies and gentlemen! If it weren't for all the lovely people donating monies using the donation button in the header and or assisting in Shetlink's upkeep via the Trade / Commerical - Situations Vacant - classifieds. Well - thank you. You know who you are.
