  1. I don’t think they are, it all depends exactly where they are placed.
  2. The only problem with a bin store is that if it is at the front of a house/ driveway and is of a certain size ( big enough for a wheelie bin) it would contravene planning and visibility splay regulations, and therefore be unlawful.
  3. Are the council really going to allow their operatives to re hook bungee cords with all the safety risks of a bungee cord, main injury is a loss of an eye.
  4. If I tie up my wheelie bin to stop it blowing away, does anyone know if the bin men will be re-tying wheelie bins back up to stop them blowing away ? Or will I find my bins halfway down the road when I come home? Who is liable for any damage caused by flying wheelie bin, the householder or council? I notice that they bring this latest scheme out in the Spring when wind dying down. Is this so when problems occur with the wind, they the council can say it has been working fine for last 7 months they can ignore the issue when gales really start to pick up again in October.
  5. The hazards are the idiots trying to avoid them or speeding between them and suddenly braking when they get to the speed bump, causing other road users to take action. Maybe pedestrians down south don’t use speed bumps as crossings, but in Lerwick they do. Pedestrians are always just stepping into the road without always due care and attention. Still does anyone know what the red pattern is in the road near M and Co. or is it the council’s idea of art.
  6. People avoid the town because speed bumps are more of a hazard for the cars because people see them as unmarked crossing points, and as for that raised red painted area, what is that all about. It all makes the town centre look chaotic and un inviting.
  7. Perhaps a start would be to remove speed bumps and get rid of the bodged tarmac areas on the street, replace with some similar stone that actually matches in, start with improving where people actually walk and move on from there. Stop with all the unnecessary ornaments, some nice areas for flowers in the summer to hang along the street, it all helps with the feel and adds colour looks far more welcoming. The owners of the shops need to paint and renovate the shops fronts and do it properly, and keep on top of it, so it does not become a major job on a regular bases. Get rid of Living Lerwick and it’s unecessary charges and the shops need to promote themselves more some of the shops look closed even when they are open. Stop dog walking down the street, due to the mess left, I understand it is not all dog owners, but time has come to take drastic action. Stop the vechicles during shop opening hours and possibly delivery vechicles to arrive before 9am. The street looks more like a car park free for all and pedestrians spend more time dodging cars than looking in the windows, certainly could not take a gentle stroll. I’m sure others can think of some other suggestions, but above would be good place to start or be getting on with.
  8. Vote of no confidence now, let’s get it over with, who wants the CEO for less salary? no wait a minute that would never do, it might just go to someone who actually cares how the public purse is spent and whom isn’t facey and won’t promote their friends.
  9. Off with your head Ghostrider, or burned at the stake or maybe galley.
  10. In it for a few years for the money, springs to mind.
  11. Unless a complete outsider got the job, she will find it difficult to pull rank on her friends in close knit community, and not upset her staff, upsetting the general public will not matter. It appears all too close, Scratching backs and all that, but then what’s new in this Council.
  12. She loves her music trips or festivals , so long as it is in her own time and her own expense, no unnecessary jollies.
  13. If you own a building, as a landlord you should be expected to maintain minimum decent level of maintenance for the said building.
  14. Maybe if the council also helped a bit more, I know budgets are tight, but come on, the street with patch tarmac everywhere is not good, and some of it has not even been finished particularly well. I’m sure they could have purchased some stone or slate from somewhere and tried to match it in, instead of the bodged tarmac which would still cost. Yet so much of the council money is wasted away in other areas, for sake of maintaining some people jobs etc. It all helps to maintain a better look, the whole street at present looks like the island community doesn’t care, and looks depressing and that is on a sunny day. Lerwick has become a ghost town, to be honest a total embarrassment to locals and visitors alike a real shame, because potentially it could have a lot to offer, with council help and getting rid of the unnecessary high costs.
  15. I counted 14 empty or soon to be empty shops, at about mid morning today, and hardly a soul in the street. It was more like a Sunday. How these shops make a honest living I will never know. Very sad state of affairs indeed.
  16. They still have a responsibility to remove your car, waiting for new owners to sort themselves out is just an excuse. Get Trading Standards they are not forfilling their legal duty, you may have been fobbed off it often happens, I have got my vechicles moved this way and sharpish too.
  17. Hi you need to get back in touch with Autogreen tell them that the car is now THEIR responsibility and they must by law arrange for it to be picked up. You should have got an email from them confirming the details on your car on their database which now makes it their responsibility. Be forceful. It does work.
  18. I’m all for supporting local businesses when possible and we have the funds, however there comes a point when the council has to cut it’s cloth accordingly. Why in these times with Council tax increases is the council buying things locally at hyperinflated prices- such as Shetland Milk for the schools and care homes etc. that is twice the price of that from sooth. It all adds up and we’re paying for it. There comes a point when you have to say enough is enough and look at more careful book keeping and justify the extra costs that the public are paying for- not just using the answer we’re supporting local businesses. The businesses should be able to stand on their own two feet. Cut giving out grants to businesses and organisations for self development, unnecessary speed bumps etc. The council should be shopping around for the best price and quality, not just going with the same local businesses that they’ve always used because they are local or ‘friends ‘. Too much back scratching and cock ups going on and we’re paying for it.
  19. Is this 3% Council tax rise to off set the wasted money the council has paid in rent for the White House. If they haven’t paid rent for a building they could not use, we could have got a council tax cut. Why should we the public, have to pay for the council’s cock up?
  20. Hi, thanks for that. What about dental plans. I know you get what you pay for sometimes, but is there a real difference between treatments. If there is not much difference is there any point going private ?
  21. Hi, Anyone have any advice ,opinions on the best dentists NHS or private before I register. Dental plans, expenses, treatment stories good or bad, and diffences of a eg crown being done on NHS or private in quality ?
  22. If I was going to open a new shop I would put in Bolts no question if there was a space, funny how a shop from the street is about to do just that a very good move.
  23. Just depends what is on offer at the time whether the shops do well, but currently what is in Bolts is doing very well, travel agent is unlikely to succeed as most people book online now.
