  1. Thanks, Whalsa. Wan o da good things aboot Shetlink is dat I dunna ken whaa onybody is so folk stick tae da points redder dan get personal we each idder!
  2. I started, den gave up twaree sentences in. I hae nae interest in readin aboot folks personal gripes we each idder and bringin folks families intae da discussion. Poor craic. Dirs too much o dat kind o thing on Fissbook and da Shetland Times website.
  3. I reckon it is a science, same as meteorology is a science. Dir's thousands of years worth o data fae ice cores and such alang we estimates on gas emissions ower da more recent history, and predictions based on dat ir proving to be true. Dat's da replication dare. I'm sure I dunna hae tae tell onybody dat. I doot it's a fairly moot point among da vast majority o scientists dat da climate is changing and dat we're at least in part at da root o it. And fae my understanding, dat's whit is being taught in schools. Good on da politicians and bairns for takin it seriously.
  4. Onybody here goin tae da hustings at Mareel damorn's night?
  5. I've encountered dem twaree times and dir was plenty of local folk among dem
  6. Did ony of you go tae dis? SNP Westminster leader in Lerwick for WASPI meeting
  7. Really? Du is actually offended by posters?
  8. Now den, du's mibee openin a can a worms dare It's an interestin point though. I write how I spik but if I wis tae try to write in da queen's english den my poor grasp o it wid mak it harder tae understand!
  9. Yis, my post does look lik I wis commentin on dee, but it's joost a colloquial turn o phrase dat mibee doesna work as a direct translation intae english. My apologies and I'm sure du'll no be losing any sleep aboot da SNP mob!
  10. Geezz......You weren't wrong! Had the Tartan (terror?) Army shoot through round here like an overdose of laxatives earlier tonight...... There's much I could say about their 'attitude' and 'methods', but to do it justice Admin would be here all night censoring it........ If there ever was a chance of me voting SNP, and their probably wasn't, if for no other reason of being mindful of the old saying, 'The old cock crows, and the young one learns', that lot blew it the minute they turned up. Two car loads, most of them in Hi-Viz vests.......I thought we were being raided by Plod at first glance. I'm no sure why folk are sae worried aboot da SNP pittin a lot o effort intae canvassing. You dunna hae tae spaek tae dem or even answer your door, and you can vote for whaa you want. And dey'll tak doon dir stuff fae da lampposts when it's by we. I'm spoken we dem a couple o times and I wis blyed o da chance to ask dem questions directly. It hasna swung my vote tae dem, but good on dem for engagin we folk.
  11. I'm no sure dat many oil workers will use it as dir irna many based in Shetland onymare. Nae mare that ony idder industry. Still, it wid be fine if dey did contribute. According tae da Charitable Trust, naebody has asked yet. Puttin in a formal request wid be a good place tae start https://www.shetlandcharitabletrust.co.uk/mri-scanner-appeal
  12. Good on da pelagic boys! https://www.shetnews.co.uk/2019/08/16/pelagic-fishermen-to-donate-100000-to-mri-scanner-appeal/
  13. Tanks Capeesh, yun is very interesting. Mibee my question wisna sae stupid efter aa! ....I mean, my friend's question
  14. Dis is liklee a stupid question, but wid a councillor (let's say somebody lik Ryan Thomson) have to stand doon as a local councillor if dey became an MSP? Askin for a friend
  15. Whitever yur political views, I tink it's a good thing to see da First Minister gettin da boat up tae Shetland, goin aboot da briggiestaenes and speakin we folk directly.
  16. I hope du wisna listenin in da car....
  17. Dis is a very good point. I tink we get lost among aa da brewhaha and spend ower lang shergin at each anidder dat we forgit dat we're aa in dis tagidder. If we aa pit as muckle effort intae finnin workable solutions as we do nigglin aboot whaas right and whaas wrang den we'd be in a much better situation. At least in dis by-election aa da candidates ir, for da most part, makin a positive fist o things rather than tryin tae pick at each idder.
  18. I suppose da Scottish Parliament can only dae whit dey're devolved tae dae through da various 'Scotland Acts', and dat's agreements atween Holyrood and Westminster. Dis is a handy list - https://www.deliveringforscotland.gov.uk/scotland-in-the-uk/devolution/# - It does seem lik a bit o a half-wye-hoose. I'm sure dat mony o da westminster MPs wid rather no hae aa da Scottish MPs comin doon and causin trouble!
  19. I tink the regional parliaments ir much better in dat respect. Dey dunna bray lik donkeys during discussions (whit is dat aa aboot, Westminster?!), and da politicians seem tae be more focussed on workin oot local solutions dan scorin points aff each idder.
  20. Whit's da difference atween dem and da Brexit supporting parties? Dey're aa nationalist. I really dunna see why it's a good thing fur da UK to laeve da EU but no for Scotland tae laeve da UK.
  21. In wir family da sayin is used tae 'draw a line' at da end o an event. I suppose da thinking is dat it's time for a cup o tae wance somethin is by we. It's also used tae lightheartedly brack da silence efter an argument.
  22. ^ and then they made tea! Unless of coorse dey wir goin tae hae 'dir tae', den it wid be... And then they made dinner!
  23. At da tap o my list wid be cost o travel tae da outside world, and da reliability of flights. I'm mibee gettin complacent in me old age but I dunna hae much tae complain aboot!
