  1. piddly... what are you on about?! penfold... i agree fully on you're judgement of scott morrison and craig gerty. i've seen morrison play a few times and his head does indeed go down when things arent going his way. something he'll have to maybe work on if he wants to fight his way back into the shetland set up. but PIDDLY??!! ur chat stinks!! scott morrison is one of the fastest players in shetland, you obviously dont watch must football do you PIDDLY?? just stick to what you know best... speaking rubbish!! watched about 20 minutes of the thistle-delting match tonight. ross macdougall proved why he is shetlands top striker, best i think i've seen him play. thistle will feel disappointed in themselves as it was a good chance to get to a final, bruce bennet the stand out for delting in what wasnt there strongest line up. should be a good final. hope the young celtic boys can win some silverware. certainly deserve some this season after showing some good form of late.
  2. yes penfold, i seem to have crossed my own paths on the duncan bray matter. before the games i didnt think he'd offer the kinda stuff he offered at the shetland games 2005, but hearing word of mouth, he was one of the better players in aaland. regardless, i still do not believe he had the right to go to aaland. nothing against the man himself, just poor and an unfair selection system. ISOT... no obviously craig gerty didnt score, as yell could not field a team!!
  3. ***Mod Edit posts moved from results thread*** ISOT... how can you say that shetlands display on saturday was a decent performance? fair enough we deserved to win, but thats not because of how shetland played, thats how poor orkney played. you obviously werent watching the same game as me? if it wasnt for james johnston wakening up in the second half and young unst man erik thompson upfront it was one of the most boring and slow tempoed games i've seen in years. to see the game go to extra time and not see substitutions (craig gerty, josie kay) introduced is a crime. the game was dull and one routed. i say that meaning that shetland didnt look as they had a back up plan atall. it was just a "get the ball punted up to ross macdougall to chase onto" kinda game. the game needed fresh legs, someone to work the channels and get james into more free'er positions up the park, craig gerty woulda been an idle substitute. for some reason john dosent seem to have faith in little gerty, his record this season speaks for itself, ran whalsay and spurs ragged in the two games i've seen this season, and joint 2nd top scorer in shetland. what more do u want? fraser hall? ...dont get me started on him! i dont know, im not trying to be negative but i just think the standard of footballers in shetland is better than the squad johns selecting. i've had a pop at peter peterson before and i really dont want to again, but what on earth was he starting for on saturday? i mean come on. he hardly offers alot of pace down the wing does he? fair enough hes an experienced member of the team, but he is so past it. he never really got into the game atall, blessin in disguise he got injured i think. nah, i've maybe been abit harsh on old papa pete on this forum, hes been a good servent to the shetland set up over the years, but surely now he'll stick to his word and hang up his boots once and for all. i hope to see in johns next training selection pool, some of the younger footballers coming through. james aitken, david thompson, shane jamieson, stuart goodlad? all offer somthing different allover the park, hopefully these players would freshen things up abit in the shetland ranks. going back to the main point of this post. i personally feel, the game on saturday needed abit of fresher legs, abit of pace introduced maybe?! i think the game lacked players like paul molloy, scott morrison, duncan bray, jamie wilson? players who can change a game instantly with the speed they've got, but then again im not the manager am i?...
  4. i almost held in my rant, but i dont think i can anymore. john: if u want to play good attacking 4-4-2 football, why play peter and gary?! leighton and ross moncrieff are made for wing back roles. they have the energy and determination to get up and support the wingers and get back to support there fellow defenders. gary and peter just dosent offer that. by not starting erik thompson, u've paid the price heavily, coming out of aaland rather gloom i think. or u certainly should. dosent matter how unlucky the boys were or how well they played, facts are facts 1 WIN, 1 DRAW & 2 DEFEATS!! 4 pts from 12 isnt good enough?! grow a set and drop alan duncan. james is the best player in that team, he needs to be involved. he needs to be in the centre of midfield with karl sitting behind him. james is the player who makes games tick. the fabregas of shetland football. u need 2 out and out strikers, ross and erik perhaps? and 2 attacking wingers, 2 duncans perhaps?! or if joe is ok to play, get him on a wing. anyone like to comment?... maybe im being abit harsh on some of the players chucked out of the squad, but the truth has to be told. if we are to get behind the manager and support our shetland team then we want to see him pick the right team. lets face it, it went wrong in aaland!! dont want that happening against orkney do we??
  5. yes i agree with u stoichkov. every day more ppl are asking about it and saying mayb somthin should be done about it. as i commented on before, it all comes from the top. maybe players dont respect the management? but then maybe that'll grow in time to come. but then again... being a delting management team will they ever get the respect that the shetland management team should get?! ... probably not! i still think to this day, the decision to appoint a manager managing at club level and county level was a big mistake! but thats getting away from the point... i could rant all day/nite about that topic! i hope for joe, its not the end of his shetland chances. yes i believe some of them should be punished, say banned for the upcoming inter county match. but nothing more as that. to miss out on a match like that infront of a homecrowd is punishing enough. as for u ppl who are firm peter peterson fans. maybe if he is such an embassador to shetland football then he should take up his coach role and try earn some respect from the players. clearly the respect is out the window at the moment and him pulling on the left back jersey and getting rinsed most games against decent opposition is hardly doing himself any favours now is it?!!
  6. i totally agree with u AndDenWeMadeTea, but peter peterson "the model shetland footballer"? dont think so!! ...past his sell by date more like!! infact, u'll probably find him on the shelves at alex morrisons.
  7. Is it not the case he was miles away from his digs in another country and felt his best option for the night was to find a comfy place to lay his head down? Exactly right ISOT!! if i was in a foreign country and living miles away from the main hub of entertainment i would gladly take up a night in the cells in place of paying upwards of £50 for a taxi home. im sure when the games were here in shetland there were loads of drunken competitors seen wandering the streets of lerwick at 4am clueless where they were going. was there any song and dance about that? no!! personally i think joe's mistake is just that, a drunken mistake! on the other hand, i dont agree with "some" of the squad being far too drunk for the closing ceremony. u learn from an early age, school age, that going away u are representing u're home school, team, country, etc. and for some of the boys to be too pissed for the closing ceremony which is still an event of the island games is a disgrace. i know they are grown men and should be able to look after themselves, but it all comes from the top. if john had said for them to take it easy on the drink until after the ceremony then by all means those players should be punished. but if he said nothing, then must john not take some flak too? prety poor management to me... personally i think the tabloids have blown things out of the water. but if punishments are the road there going to go down, then so be it!!!
  8. well said mate,i couldnt agree more.
  9. well done emma! to do that at the age of 15 is some achievement. get you to london 2012!!
  10. sour grapes, what u on about, kirsty stickin up for john aswell, how can guys like gary jamieson and josie kay proove themselves when out of position, john gets credit 4 delting, lets be honest that team picks itself and has done for years, duncan bray scored a good goal years ago people forget how poor he was the other games, bout time the young boys at celtic wer given a shot, lowrie simpson, jordan webb and jordan hunter, good to hear erik scored a few the other game,a bright light in a very bleak lookin team.
  11. look (***Mod Edit - Please respect others privacy***)... i understand what u're saying about the number of goals the 3 keepers hav conceded, but to put that down to keepers isnt right. defenders have to take some blame too, if u look at celtics defence this season, they have had upto 9 different defenders at center back... not alot of continuity there, is there? where as u look at ness, whalsay for example, their defences barely get changed. fair enough erik is a good player and does deserve a place in the squad, but paul grant is out and out the best keeper in shetland. just seen the starting XI for the first game. ??!! what?!! gary jameson, peter peterson?!! i dont think so, put two fast wingers against them and they'll be ripped apart. sometimes i think john is in cookoo land, leighton and ross are exceptional at getting up and down the wings, they have the energy, pace and determination to be ideal full backs. good attacking football john wants? dont think thats gona happen. why erik thompson isnt starting i dont know... another stat to point out, if u look at the top goalscorers charts on the Shetland FA site, 4 out of the top 20 scorers are in aaland. whats all that about? just want to point out, that although some of my comments might seem abit harsh, this site is a fans forum, everyone has their own opinion and it is interesting to see what the people on here think.
  12. john jamieson, joke, fraser hall, duncan bray joke, has beens, how can john justify pickin fraser over the top goalscorers when he offers nothin to the team, scott morrison best out and out winger in shetland, paul grant the considerably better than both erik and craig, peter peterson bout time you called it a day, lets be honest, guys like thomas smith the future of shetland,it looks bleak if thats the case.
