  1. I normally agree it's rude to leave early, but we left Treacherous Orchestra early not to go to the club but because the sound was awful - couldn't put up with it anymore.
  2. I don't think they'd be unwelcome - the service was friendly - though I'd say by the look of it that it's aimed more at adults. Can't recall if there's a children's menu - there probably is.
  3. Hi, it was upstairs in the hotel itself, the restaurant on the first floor has had a nice facelift.
  4. Bolts definitely still sell Foords, sure I've seen them other places too. Shetland Fudge Co do chocs too. I love Foords ones - very moreish, but their packaging could be nicer.
  5. Been there to that lovely refurb-ed restaurant at Shetland Hotel. Lovely venue, fine service, food ok just needs to be a bit more special. Got potential.
  6. Not been in tattie shop for ages and tonight, based on some half-remembered Shetlink comments I had a burger. Have to say it was very good, very substantial, and looking about the shop I'm really impressed what they've done with it. Good service and impression of lots of effort going in to it. Well done to them and will go more often now.
  7. I'm like most of the folk here and have got to the old fart stage. Used to live my life in pubs, now can't be bothered. Agree Lerwick pubs mostly dire. My GOD can't the Grand do something about the smell in the Posers entrance? Having said that, been in Lerwick Hotel and Kveldsro recently for a drink and they were very nice, though empty. Us old farts need to get off our butts and go and spend some money in the few nice places. Remember when Baroc was really nice and used to put on Sunday afternoon jazz? Wish I had gone more often and given them more money.
  8. Delighted to see Fine Peerie Cakes now has three cafe tables, which is just what it always needed. Had a sticky toffee cupcake which was gorgeous. They are doing some savoury stuff too. Good luck to them, I'll be back.

Given that supermarket name badges generally bear the first name only, and that you have not been introduced and therefore the operator knows you only by the (sur)name on your credit card, does it occur to you that that might make you a patronising twerp? Wishing to remain in employment, the operator has no choice but to smile sweetly back while inwardly seething... Well said Filsket! Sure you mean no harm, daveh, but it makes us cringe!
  10. Sad but true - I always shop there, but there's no up-front managment in evidence and all kinds of sloppy service issues not being tackled. They seemed to give up the ghost after the Tesco extension. But not all is bad service I must emphasise - some staff are very good, especially some of the youngsters at weekends.
  11. At last! Looks good and it will be really handy. Will folk festival tickets be going on it?
  12. Fine to read some positive views on standing for election - special thanks to Poseidon, the torpid inanity of whose post spurred folk to reply. Just to say - want to stand? Get your form in by 4pm on 1st Feb (that's next Tuesday). You have to be on the voter's roll for the ward you want to stand in and get a couple of folk also on the roll to nominate you. Call the councils's electoral dept for papers but remember Up Helly Aa, weekend etc - get 'em back in the post quick. Good luck. http://www.shetland.gov.uk/elections/Elections2011.asp Telephone: 01595 744554 e-mail: returning.officer@shetland.gov.uk
  13. What they achieve is down to how much effort members put in. More to the point, it's the lowest rung of democracy and you have to start somewhere. Apart from the actual business they do, their value is in getting folk to take on responsibility, work together, argue their case coherently (and publicly), stand up to be counted. They're valuable for the same reason any community committees are - they give a structure to do things and to consult and they give people access to folk living closely in the community who they can lobby or ask for help.
  14. There are almost fifty vacant places on Shetland's community councils since the last elections. Are folk happy to moan but not to get off their butts and serve? http://www.shetland.gov.uk/elections/Elections2011.asp
