crofter
What kind of hatch rate are people getting with eggs sent up to Shetland? I have only tried it 3 times but was disappointed each time. 3/24 guinea fowl 0/12 light sussex 1/6 quail - and that chick died.
paulb
ive had 50/60% with some and none with others. i now wipe the eggs with a diluted milton solution just to make sure they have no bugs on them.
Magnie-na
Lovely birds Frances! Landrover have pm'd you re eggs - I'd be interested in 18 say, where are the eggs based? Crofter I've had very mixed results with eggs from south. From Aberdeenshire usually an 80% hatch rate but further than than particularly Wales (sorry anyone from there ) pathetic! Some boxes arrived smashed and the eggs broken, often the yolks were ruptured - usually bad from ebay - I just don't bother any more. We should get thriving and variable flocks here in Shetland, bit like the seedbank that another memeber suggested.

LandRover S2a
Frances - I am asking around for you. To those of you who ordered hatching eggs - I candled ours tonight and we have a fertility rate of 86.5% despite travel through the post. I I know fertility is not hatched chicks but it is a darn good start.
