bobatron
This would be worth a look if you need an earlier map: http://www.calmview.eu/ShetlandArchive/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=SA6%2f19&pos=2 Cheers
Ghostrider
You'll get the earliest OS map version on here, which may or may not be early enough. Just drag to the area you want, zoom in and click 'Historic' top right. Takes a bit of time to load, but you end up with resolution equivalent to having a paper copy and magnifying glass if you're patient. http://geo.nls.uk/os6inch/google.html
Skyumpi
Looks like the National Archives have an old scattald map from 1851 but there's no digital image available online. Still a few of the crofts listed though. http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/search_item/index.php?service=NAS&id=RHP512&refer=L3NlYXJjaC9pbmRleC5waHA%2FJnBfbmFtZT10aW5nd2FsbCZwX3R5cGU9UEFSSVNIJmNhY2hlX25hbWU9MTExcGFyaXNodGluZ3dhbGwxMzA4c2hldGxhbmQmcF9jb3VudHk9c2hldGxhbmQmcGVyX3BhZ2U9NTAmaWRbXT0xMzA4JnBfZmlsdGVyPXdlaXNkYWxl
sga
Thanks Ghostrider, that historic map on the NLS site is amazing. I love looking at the history of all these old croft houses, especially the ones around where I grew up.
