Fjool
Anyone had their roof done recently? I've got a bit of maintenance to do, but it requires a professional roofer to erect scaffolding, remove a chimney and replace some sarking. No idea what this sort of job is likely to cost, nor who I'd ask about getting it done. Any advice gratefully received.
Hobbiniho
its a relatively easy job to remove a chimney and make good a roof, dependant on the size it can be done in a day with two men, im sure most builders would be able to give you a quote, what kind of slates/ tiles do you have? mhutch
its not a big job if the wood under the sarking is still ok , the most of the work in any case is in the demolition and decra, but like above its no a big or technical job n likely a small builder in your area would do it as a homer

stilldellin
who does turf roofs? I believe it was Ness Engineering that did one recently in the Sumburgh area. If it's thatch rather than turf it micht be worth speaking to the Shetland Museum people as they would be responsible for the Dunrossness Croft House. link to Sumburgh turf :- http://www.alderaan.org.uk/
