Funfair organiser
Hello, I organise various funfairs throughout Scotland I'm looking to set a funfair up in Lerwick in spring 2017, I was wondering if anyone could suggest any potential sites that would suit to build and operate a funfair on, or a piece of land/yard that is available to rent for a short period of time, we are looking to bring the largest FunFair Shetland has ever seen and bring the best funfair experience possible to the island, hopefully someone can help us find land to do this, we would also be open to suggestions of when would be the best time to visit we was thinking April/May for a stay of 3 weeks if possible. I would also like to add this fairground has never visited your island before so would like a chance to make our own impression rather than be compared to fairgrounds that visited before. Thanks in advance
Urabug
Best of luck--You better look into the cost of getting here first!
shetlandcars
Been discussed before, points still valid, still a concern over possibility of children getting stuck in the tunnel of goats https://www.shetlink.com/index.php?/topic/2895-funfair-event-in-shetland/ Edited November 15, 2016 by shetlandcars sludgegulper
Funfair organiser
The cost of getting there has be viewed and although it's a risk weather wise it's a risk we are willing to take. On taking this risk we need to find a suitable site, we have never been to Shetland before so we wouldn't like you to think we are the same organisers/owners as last time and would like to make our own impression on you, rather than the impression the last operators left weather they was good or bad impressions Edited November 15, 2016 by Funfair organiser
MuckleJoannie
The sites I recall being used by fairgrounds in the past are not available (the North Ness and Seafield) due to being built on. The Gilbertson Park would be brilliant but I seem to recall that you can't put paying events on there. My suggestions would be either the Tesco car park or the Clickimin car park. JustMe
The Lerwick Port Authority yard at the back of the Co-op small car park might be good if it is not being used for much at the moment. Or indeed the LPA might have somewhere else. Anderson High School top car park could work outside term time. Just some passing thoughts. Funfair organiser
Thank you for your suggestions, do you guys know if gilbertson park is council land? Or is it privately owned... Realisticly we are not a paying event, we provide free entry to the fairground its upto the public themselves if they want to pay and ride the attractions or just come and enjoy the atmosphere and lights, maybe leave that one for debate later , When would you recommend the best time to bring the fairground to Shetland. MuckleJoannie
How to book the Gilbertson Park http://www.shetland.gov.uk/sport_and_leisure/leisure_facilities.asp They may have other suggestions for sites. I wouldn't bother bringing it up earlier than April or later in September as the weather will be against it. Even during that period there is no guarantee of good weather. I would go for late May/June as you will get the long summer evenings and you often get settled weather then.
