  1. Hi, I would think most multi fuel stoves would be able to do peat also .I think in the brochures and spec etc they just list wood, coal as peat is not not common fuel type throughout UK. We had a "villager" stove in the past that was excellent and would have been fine for peat too. It is also our choice of stove again for our selfbuild here. They come in range size see VILLAGER website, there are others too , you find some stoves cheaper if you can pick up from mainland yourself sometimes saving few hundred.
  2. perhaps where people can just turn up wait their turn to see the emergency GP for that morning or something similar is what I mean?
  3. Hi and welcome to the forum. I think its fine fine to disagree or have different point of view, but if you cannot type without some manners or swearing even by using *** then either don't read the post or don't type at all. I think most people here are generally nice we all at times have strong points of views/opinions but again there never need to swear or be downright nasty or name calling etc its just lowers the whole tone of some people and uncalled for really. I don't think there ever will be a perfect system ,what about a doctor that on rota each day for emergency appointments before eg 12 pm. So they can seen that day slotted in and not interruping the normal appointments for that day or next or do they have something in place similar in Lerwick?
  4. If you had the old system back some elderly folk could be waiting a long time to be seen, some maybe using a bus service , others might have children pick up from nursery/school etc .
  5. Using the nurse bank only works if it run properly. Okay, I'm using south as an example here when if a member of staff is booked and they are not then needed they are used elsewhere in the hopsital thus honouring the shift. Here on Shetland they book the shifts and then cancel the shift(s) just hours before it starts this demoralising the nurse bank staff and leaving staff out of pocket as they could have made other arrangements. Once a shift has been accepted it should be honoured .
  6. Why have only Lerwick and whalsay run by NHS and the others fund holding ?
  7. Paulb in England I said they employed practice nurses and the District nurses were emplyoed by the Trust as in case of our old surgery .
  8. How exactly are the GP surgeries up here funded ? Does the money come from NHS Shetland budget or are they centrally funded in some way. Then how is it decided how much each surgery gets ? Obviously in England Gp surgeries are in control of their own budgets they are responsible for employing their own practice nurses and District nurses are employed by NHS Trust.
  9. Bresail you say how it is, well put.
  10. Missed appointments is a big issue and one hard to tackle. With repeat offeners - I would suggest fine them circumstances dependent - money going to drs surgery or good cause. Not sure you could fine them in reality or not.
  11. Hi, I agree with you both, but it is necessary to get it out into the wider community.

  14. Don't know what happened there this wasn't the link I wanted Try later.
  15. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-21483103 The people who are brave enough to speak out and stand up for what is right are the very health professionals we need caring for wanting better standards and they deserve our support. The NHS cannot affort to lose anymore good professionals.
  16. There are not many that would be prepared to speak up for fear of seen as a troublemaker / their job and it being worked out traced back to who raised concern/complaint especially in small hospitals . Even though professionals have their NMC which tells them to act as a good advocate for patient and good practice, what some then have go through puts many off or turning a blind eye or not believed etc. How you overcome this is very difficult.
  17. Any nurse that speaks out about poor or bad practice despite any measures that are in place still have a very time difficult time, career made difficult or backdoor redundant believe me and until health professionals are better protected it will continue to happen. The only ones suffering are the staff and patients . Better methods of protecting staff are much needed.
  18. On BBC 24 very shortly they are discussing how nurses are unable to speak out , could be interesting.
  19. Nordan will do non standard sizes too but you pay a bit more .
  20. Hi , Jewsons and bulidbase will get them in too and you can order from them directly they will deliver to Aberdeen ,Northwards would be able to the rest Number on their website always worth checking all your options and weigh pro and cons ..
  21. Hi, There are also Nordan windows to consider too which I found to be excellent in the past but will have find someone to put them in.
  22. Bresail well put, and Paul I was just about post same thing. They do ignore patients a very fitting letter .
  23. I never said I wanted anyone to start immediately for work the moment they step ashore. Also I never used a London hospital for an example that was someone else, I used another very small rural hospital for my example. Yes I have approached the board, see my above post.
  24. Hi I have personally suggested ideas to the hospital and also donated gifts for a particular cause. The gifts were used elsewhere .As for the suggestions and ideas which were contructive but they fell on deaf ears and when asking the board for any explanation to questions I have asked the answers were worthy of some politicians and written answers were so far removed from the spoken ones they gave I wondered whether I was actually talking to the same person all they tried do is cover their backs when things have gone wrong. Yes we have some excellent staff and also some not so good. I have also told staff when I received good care and thanked them. Those staff know who they are.
