  1. Shetlink strives to be accurate at all times, if you are confident about this figure then we'll use it. Amendment made.
  2. It has come to our attention that an individual has been posting messages under various pseudonyms throughout this thread. In the spirit of open and transparent debate, we request that the person in question avoids this in future. Thank you, site Admin

However if you are still looking for more information then you can contact us through Shetlinks PM system.
  5. You can now upload your own avatars (the little pictures that show up to the left of your forum messages) Go to "Profile" (a link below the "Shetlink: Forums" text heading at the top of this page) Then scroll to the bottom of the page where the 'Avatar control panel' is situated. Maximum file size is 10KB Maximum proportions are 96 x 96 pixels
  6. We're trying to track down a bug which prevents linking to offsite avatars. Its a labourious job and it's proving to be very annoying!! Uploading pictures causes potential security issues, which we're working to fix. However, it may take a while untill we can find the time to sort these 'features' as we're working on a some new sections of the site which is taking up most of our time
  7. Welcome to the new 'Travel' forum. Recommendations, places to avoid, handy tips, good airlines, maybe even as far as people to look up while there, whether ex-pat or local. A shetlander abroad is usually an ambassador for us all, and maybe it could be possible to share that diplomacy with those who follow behind?
  8. Hmmm. Don't know what's happening there. I run Firefox on both Mac and PC and the symbols seem to work fine (they're set up to be orange if there's an unread post in a forum, as I'm sure you know) I've never used Opera, so I can't really comment Try logging out, deleting your Shetlink cookies and logging back in. That might fix it YadUK performed a 'server security audit' on the servers this afternoon and put in place extra server 'hardening' measures to beef up the security. I don't know if that could have caused the glitch. I didn't notice anything. Get back to us if the problem persists
  9. We're building a database of MOSO with a view to building a music section into Shetlink. If you've got a music website, please submit it to our music links section If you have links to music downloads, please submit them to our music downloads section
  10. Thats an excellent name fur it But a Wikipedia is the type of idea we're working on. A lot of code tinkering to do though (edit) We were planning on calling it 'Shetlopedia', inkeeping with the 'Shetl...' theme
  11. Come on noo bairns, play fine To JA, we're planning an events calendar and a user updatable Shetland encyclopedia (shetlopedia?)
  12. Anyway, where were we.....something about the Sooth boat I think......
  13. Hi boys. In case you're wondering what happened, I thought that digital video cameras would be a good topic of it's own. Sorry for any confusion. As you were...
  14. Shetlink is now running an integrated hybrid copy of PHP-Nuke 7.6 / 7.8 with the most secure features of both incorporated to ensure the safe running of this project. Shetlink would like like to take this opportunity to thank John Smith of yadUK who has carried out this work on a voluntary basis for us.
  15. Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you...... We'll look into that None of the music is hosted on our site. We aim to have a database of all the Shetland music downloads on the net. If you know of music on any of the younger bands sites, please let us know (you can submit them via the downloads section) Alternatively, if any younger (or older!) bands wish to get their music online, give us a shout and we'll see what we can do. If there's a demand, we could start a section of this site devoted to hosting local music mp3s. What do you think? There are a couple of points to address here. Firstly, the techie point. The functionality of the downloads section of the site was designed on an Apple Mac running iTunes so I'm not 100% sure whats happening on your PC. I presume you had Windows Media Player as your default mp3 player? The second point is copyright. We were trying to avoid potential intellectual property infringements by avoiding direct downloads of other peoples music from our site. However, almost all of the musicians and copyright holders have expressed that they are happy for us to allow just that. We'll be revamping the downloads section soon. Cheers, admin
  16. Before you complain.....! We don't mean to compare Coronation Street or Carry On Camping with James Joyce or Johan Barthold Jongkind. It's just a convenient heading for the meantime. If and when this forum receives enough postings on a subject, we'll start a dedicated section. Cheers, Admin
  17. Technology forum now set up. TV and Movies has been added to the existing Arts and Literature forum. Your wish is our command.
  18. We're all pretty chuffed over here at Shetlink after making the paper. The big time, eh. We'd been planning on sending a press release to them in the coming weeks, but they beat us to it! However, we'd like to point out a small but important mistake in the Shetland Times today. Contrary to the article, anyone can post messages on the forum; you don't have to be a registered user. We believe that it's important to give members and non members the oppertunity to post annonymously, but we're very pleased that so many people have decided to sign up. We only launched the site a month ago and we're amazed at how busy it's been. Click on the 'Statistics' link in the left hand modules menu to see what we mean. 30,000 page views in a month! Thanks to you all for an amazing first month, the Shetlink team
  19. We need to come up with a ranking system for the amount of posts a user has made. For (a very very poor) example 1-50 posts = fiddlebox carrier 51-150 posts = guizer 151-300 posts = jarl squad 301+ = jarl Each rank can have its own icon Any ideas? When a good few suggestions have been made, we'll have a vote
  20. The 'Members List' is now enabled Registered members can access the 'Members List' from the 'Modules' menu on the left of each page, or from the links below the 'Shetlink: Forums' heading Thank you for your polite request JAStewart!
  21. In matters such as this we believe it is not for the forum administrators to dictate rules, it is up to the forum members to decide. We believe that freedom of expression is a necessity and posts will not be altered or deleted unless a specific complaint is made (which is no guarantee of action being taken) or a post is deemed to be of such poor taste as to cause obvious offence (the criteria what defines 'poor taste' and 'offence' is a debate in itself) So what do you think? Should swearing be allowed and to what extent?
  22. A note to say that there was some SIBC related discussion over in the 'music' section. I've put a message sending them over here. Cheers, admin
  23. A note to say that Sam & Muppet have started a new SIBC thread over in the 'Local News' section, which might be a more appropriate place for non music related SIBC stuff. Cheers, Admin
