  1. It is up to you to go and see the dentist, not for the dentist to come to you. I'm not surprised you have dental problems if you leave it 3 years between visits.
  2. ^^^ My Goodness!!! Having read through stu2630 posts, I am left with the feeling of a very bitter man and his wife who seem unable to accept that someone else was better for the job. Frankly, I think Shetland is better of without such 'New Blood' as this!
  3. Merry Christmas all. Hope Santa brings you your hearts desire.
  4. ^^^ I think I agree. Men with the sniffles do exasperate. They only exacerbate the feelings of irritation women feel when confronted with 'poorly' men.
  5. ^^^ I'm afraid that it is you who sound rather petty whilst you ignore the dire financial straits of this country. Iceland raised interest rates to a record 18 per cent from 12 per cent as a condition of a proposed $2bn loan from the International Monetary Fund to help rescue the stricken island.Iceland applied to the Washington-based organisation for the emergency loan after its banking system collapsed and is seeking another $4bn (€3.2bn, £2.6bn) from some Nordic and other central banks. 'Pathetic' just about sums up your grasp of the point I was making. Yet more fuel for the argument to remain part of the UK Well, to put it simply for you for years the banks have been lending huge amounts of money to people who can't possibly pay it back. I hope the day never dawns when the UK puts 'money' ahead of helping oppressed people whether or not we ourselves are under threat. We have always stood up to bullies and tyrants and I hope we always will. I will finish by saying that I would rather 'pleeps' than 'irp' as you do.
  6. There is an RSPB reserve in the south-east of Fetlar, and the island as a whole is designated an Environmentally Sensitive Area, with large sections also classified as Special Protected Areas and Special Areas of Conservation. I think you would have a job getting permission to build there at the best of times!
  7. For an idea of how to build earth houses that will stand the test of time...look no further than Jarlshof.
  8. "It's just the gossip that you have to learn how to deal with and once you get it into your head that if they're talking about you they are leaving someone else alone, it makes it easier." This was 2 days before the Anne of Green Gables quote. I recalled you mentioning being talked about and checked your posts to ensure I did not misrepresent what you had written.
  9. You do realise the next fire festival is Guy Fawkes night - where it is traditional to burn a dummy
  10. ^^^ I doubt that a few shetlander/ soothmoother comments on Shetlink has made someone deregister. It could perhaps be that their derogatory comments regarding locals have been picked up by the neighbours and life has become difficult. Past posts (made in July) comment on 'being gossiped about' and subsequent ones relate to being unhappy with where they live. I for one enjoy a good debate, and also like it when posts become lively - if I find something not to my taste, I just don't look at it. The Shetlander/Soothmoother debate has long been discussed in Shetland - years before the internet and forums arrived. People need to take it for what it is - a bit of lighthearted banter. After all - look at how many Shetlanders are married to Soothmoothers...Myself included.
  11. Is that one ancestor or all? Surely if it's only one ancestor then you can't guarantee your racial purity. You could be any kind of mongrel, not a proper Shetlander. I do not see anything in Smadrinks post about Race. Indeed Shetlanders have always been proud of their Viking roots - hence Up Helly Aa being celebrated each year. Most Shetlanders couldn't give a stuff about 'racial purity' and are more than happy to be 'mongrels'.
  12. I notice you have removed the posts where you have been less than complimentary to Shetlanders....old and new!
  13. I had a quick look at the website Nigel linked to (and of which he is a 'Sequence Director' under the name Nanos.) I came upon this gem... Perhaps this is why Nigel was at pains to point out his magnificent IQ.
  14. At least that story book is written by one person. The bible is a mish mash of accounts from a couple of thousand years ago.
  15. The trouble is once you start painting them, you have to keep on doing it every couple of years. The weather and salt soon take their toll and that is when the costs start to add up.
  16. jenesequa is, according to his posts, actually a man, I see people referring to him as 'her'.
  17. ^^^ http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ancient/cultures/sodom_gomorrah_01.shtml Seems like he did a bit of killing after all.
  18. It would appear that you wont even have a car to sleep in, as I see you are advertising to buy one. Why is it so hard for people to get a job and accomodation BEFORE landing in Shetland? You obviously have access to the internet and I would have thought it easy enough to sort these things out so that you arrive fully employed and with somewhere to stay.
  19. I quite agree, its not by chance... but by the amalgamation of Dust and Gas, a few million years of time and then good old evolution stepped in and the rest, as they say, is History.
  20. ^^^ Deranged mass murderers are not quite in the same league as petty criminals.
  21. Does the Government take-over of Scotlands banks spell the end of independence for Scotland? If Scotland had been independant, it would now be in a similar state to Iceland. Thank heavens that the people voted to remain part of the United Kingdom, at least we were able to be bailed out in the current financial crisis.
