In the Lifeboat open day article of this weeks shetland times, there was a mention of a "destitute beggar" that died on the steps of the old Tolbooth. Does anyone know the story behind this lady? Or even what year she died?

Does anyone really care where the genuine treasure is? Im thinking about the stone of Scone (I think thats how you spell it). As Scots, do we really care where the genuine stone is? Could we really tell the difference? Why demand the treasure if we cant tell if its fake or not?

Its things like this that make me proud of Shetland.

The museum is well worth a look. Had a look around today through voluntary work (im in a yellow hi-vis vest on opposite side of hays dock in one of the pictures on Shetlopedia). Though I would suggest trying to wait until it is a bit quieter. I couldnt see much due to the crowd milling around. I plan to go back for a good look around but il wait until the summer seasons over so that its quieter.

True, very true. Ive just watched the speech on the BBC website. It did give good logical reasons for not sending him. I didnt think that he could go to the front line as it would certainly have put his troops in added danger not to mention the potentail embaresment to our goverment if he was taken captive.

Im sure he was quoted as saying that he would leave if he was stopped from going to Iraq. They say he wont leave but to my mind he has to. Surely the point of the army is to defend "Queen and Country" if you are prevented from doing so then you cant serve with your Regiment. Im sure that no soldier wants to go to war (and I respect them for going to war) but it is a major part of thier career. they spend a lot of time training for this and many hope that they wont be called to a situation like this. Ok rant over!

Its easy for us to find fault with the parents. most parents have nipped outside leaving thier kids in the house for a few minutes. I do however question their mentality for going out for a meal and only checking (I think) at half hourly intervals.

If the local law says that driving while banned incurs a 45 day sentence then off course she should go to jail. You cant escape just because you are well known. As for the "no-one told me I was Banned" excuse! Does she really think anyone is going to believe that?
