  1. Rex, would love to hear more about your first trip. I bet that it was really interesting. A lot will have been learnt and you'll have enjoyed every moment!!! p.s Who cares about Beckham???
  2. Carmichael and the rest of the Lib Dem "Dingalings" have yet to be heard expressing any concern for the politically disenfranchised amongst us. I don't believe I've heard the Tories, Labour or any other politico's showing any concern for the disenfranchised. Why should the SNP be any different - or is it all their fault, regardless? Rubbish!! In the recent pat, the LibDems (and a number of other "minority parties" have campaigned for PR and, we recently had a referendum offering AV (NOT PR). The electorate judged that AV would only bolster the current system and rejected it. Could be wrong but, wasn't it the LibDems in coalition who prompted/promoted it? Did the Lib Dems, in coalition, possibly promote it because they were told to? Oh?, so a big boy did it and ran away.... ....and the Lib Dem's are probably still deciding just what they should be seen doing about it.

  4. Carmichael will stop at nothing to get his way. An awful lot of his supporters were happy to view what he had done as not worth getting uptight about. They felt that it should be brushed under the carpet and forgotten about. Can I assume that you won't be voting Lib Dem either?

  6. Haahaa, it's a wind-up, he's just joking, having a bit of a lark - and showing, if not a leaning towards the famous "Lib Dem Liar", then a dislike of any change to the political landscape of Shetland and Orkney. You also appear to see only SNP voters looking for blood. Surely at least one or two of Carmichaels supporters would like to see a little honesty come out regarding the lies that he told.
  7. You're only feigning concern for honesty, deomcracy and a level playing field, by blowing up out of all proportion a minor and inconsequencial incident just because it might gain political capital for your left wing bias. Love it, a "minor and inconsequencial incident", that's one way of putting it #heehee
  8. Yes I do, and if you are truly in this situation then you are justified. To be clear, I'm not attacking you. I'm not saying you don't have the right to a council house. My problem is people saying they're "homeless" when they've not exhausted all options and are putting themselves in that situation out of choosiness. Let me explain... This country will ensure (or do its damnedest to ensure) everyone has a roof over their head. That's something everyone should be thankful for. When you are classified as homeless, you get put to the top of the housing list and made a high priority. You are given temporary accommodation, as you have, and that can be at great expense because there are no other options than private B&Bs. To me being truly homeless is about having exhausted every single option. That covers viewing and applying for houses, flats, rooms, shares in a variety of locations, or moving back to the family home (space permitting). Only when you have no option left and are sleeping on a friend couch, or god forbid contemplating sleeping rough, then you should be classed as homeless in my view. Unfortunately this is an area that can be abused. Anyone can turn up and say they're homeless, and the council has to react. Therefore it becomes a moral responsibility when you declare yourself homeless. You need to respect the situation of every other person on the housing list you are queue jumping. There will be people on that list that have been on it for years, for example: working but still living in the family home, coping those same high rents you're trying to avoid, in overcrowded situations, have had relationship breakdowns but still have to be under the same roof, and countless other situations. They're not homeless or making themselves such, they're waiting their turn patiently. So if you feel you truly count as homeless and should go in front of the above people, then that's your choice. I will say no more on the subject. Agreed, and anybody that is unfortunate enough to find themselves truly homeless would be only too happy to accept accommodation anywhere, regardless of whether it's in sight of the town or not. Otherwise, you take what's available and you work up from there. If you want to live in Lerwick, or anywhere else, for that matter, and there is nothing on offer then you save up or shut up. The world is your oyster, just don't expect society to go out to sea to catch it for you.
  9. Carmichael is a liar and has been forced to admit it. Look how many people around here were willing to ignore it, let him off with it and just forget what had been done by their M.P. That doesn't speak too well of the people that were only too happy to, and probably still do, live in denial.
  10. Thanks, Gorgonzola. I don't know if it will be Mars. It may be moon or it might be Star Trek. Whatever, man will leave Earth, IMHO. It will not be everyone, though. Those without means will stay and suffer until.... One thing I am certain about, it will be a rush to leave when man gets to grips with it - and it's mans fault. And if that doesn't happen then, when the sun turns into a red dwarf in about 5 billion years, and totally fries Earth, it's all over around here anyway
  11. To quote ArabiaTerra, "This idea that if we take action, it will make no difference for thousands of years is complete nonsense. In fact it is the complete opposite of the truth. If we do not take action within the next 30 years then nature will take matters into her own hands and nothing we do after that will make any difference." Very true, and not only will nature take matters into her own hands but she will do nothing to look after us. The best thing, IMHO, is for us to take action now, otherwise we will keep saying, "In thirty years we'll..." and nothing at all will be done until it's too late. By then we will probably have got a few peeps up to Mars and they'll be selling plots of land to build on, we'll all move there and immediately poison everything until it becomes uninhabitable. Then we'll be looking for somewhere else to destroy - and on it goes.
  12. He certainly is, this time around. Although Jacob Rees-Mogg is a Tory, which is a terrible thing to say about anyone, he puts forward a very good case for us to dump the E.U before they grab any more control over us. We need out of the E.U and we need out now as they are grinding us down into the gutter.
  13. To quote Microsoft, "While we don’t expect there to be any issues for most users, you can ‘Check your PC’ with the Upgrade Advisor in the Get Windows 10 App. This identifies known issues with your desktop apps, connected devices, or PC components, and provides a view of the issues that may impact you when you upgrade. If there are any actions you can take to resolve the issues, we will list them out. Keep in mind that we don’t have information for every available app or device, so we can’t guarantee that it’s a comprehensive list of all potential compatibility issues."
  14. Who is "we", Scorrie? The continually shrinking number of Lib Dem voters, or the entire population of the islands? The population of Shetland loses a voice that isn't having it's strings pulled by a centralist Scots government, George. I do genuinely believe that the SNP are the best party to run Scotland. But I want a Shetland controlled by the Central Belt political elite about as much as I want a Scotland controlled by Westminsters' political elite....... Would you prefer to see Shetland going for independence? Personally, I would.

  16. The Americans still don't know that England is only part of the U.K.
  17. Sound very like Malcolm Bruce. He didn't manage to justify being an out and out liar, he just managed to tell the world that both himself and Carmichael are liars. Are you one as well?
  18. Hopefully, yes, this is Big Al's last term. He's put enough away to live off, without actually doing anything useful but for the likes of him, it's hardly unusual. No doubt he'll also avoid justifying the lies that he has admitted telling, and let's face it, he only admitted to telling them to protect his ( previously very comfortable) seat to keep the SNP out and his money coming in.
  19. I agree, if Carmichael authorised the release of a memo that told the truth then he has little to answer to, but he authorised the release of a memo stating that Sturgeon and Bermann had talked about subjects that they have both denied. In essence, the leak itself was a lie. Next time you're reading the Shetland Times, spend more time on the adverts.
  20. Haahaa, will Carmichael survive the lies that he's been and gone and told us. A petition to oust him as MP has been lodged at the Court of Session in Edinburgh. Read here for more information
  21. Okay, so you're saying its okay to lie if you get away with it, but not okay to lie if you don't. Frankly I'd much rather just get rid of all the liars regardless of their colours and make it a level playing field, and Bruce is right, they do all tell lies, just as all humans tell lies, none of us are innocent of that, its a human failing, end of. You are never going to rid humans and by association politics of lies, so the best we can hope for is to try and curtail the level of lying that occurs. In the big picture this "he said, he thought he heard her saying, and I let his note fall in to the hands of the media without properly checking it", is pretty far down the seriousness ladder, and I do not for one minute believe any other politician would when faced with similar would act to any higher a standard. No, it is not alright to lie "if you get away with it" and yes, I'd like to get rid of all the liars, too. Carmichael apologised for it, but only to keep himself in a job, and Bruce admitted to being just like Carmichael. What good that did either of them I don't know, other than to show that they are similar in their dishonesty. You're right, though. We will never get rid of all the liars, they're found everywhere and they wear every colour of hat available. The liars have to be dealt with, surely. If not, then it all just grinds down further and further until it's total anarchy. So Carmichael, whether he wants to or not, should be forced to resign. This will cause a by-election and he should be free to put himself forward to be elected again. If this were to happen, it would be interesting to see how keen the Lib Dems would be in continuing to back him. I bet they would dump him immediately and put a new face forward, but considering how many votes Danus Skene got, there's not much chance for them and that's the only reason they have continued to appear to back Carmichael. In all honesty, I don't think that Carmichael has many friends now, just a lot of old people that don't like changes in what they're used to suffering from.
  22. Oh, dear..... ....and just why should anyone suspect, let alone believe that one mob of politicians would behave any differently to another mob of politicians, when they all come from the same place and feed from the same trough. Bluntly, just what have the SNP ever done for anyone to have elevated them to such a higher level of conduct and trust. The headlines drifting back from Westminster lately would seem to suggest the polar opposite, not that I'm really buying it, as its a Red Top, but still, no smoke without fire, and all that. Fortunately, the SNP haven't been caught out, unlike the LibDems. It was their man, Malcolm Bruce, that said they all told lies. Of course, that could be a lie. That would be a huge, massive improvement on the present system which lets them away with blue murder, Carmichael being a perfect example.
  23. If the boot was on the other foot then, I believe, the SNP would be dealing with the problem correctly - unlike the LibDems who are sweeping it under the carpet in the vain hope that it will go away and Carmichaels position will be retained. Looks like none of the LibDems around here are prepared to play the game in the same way that they would demand everybody else did.
  24. I don't think that he should get away with it, either, but the way that things are going it looks like he might. I do think that a by-election would be correct, it would give the people that he (supposedly) represents the chance to keep him in place, or get rid of him. It should be our choice. I bet that if this had happened five years ago he would have gone immediately for a by-election. But, of course, then he had a massive winning vote, approx 10k more votes than anybody else. That has changed, this time around he had 817 more than the SNP. He doesn't need to have irritated too many folk for him to lose his job but we haven't yet been given the choice. He'll do his best to stay in place but it's not up to him, it's up to the people that voted him in. His voters will, no doubt, keep trying to sweep it all under the carpet but that just lets an admitted liar stay in place. That is wrong.
