  1. "WELCOME TO NORTHMAVINE". Come on guys...seriously?
  2. Voting for another party in protest i.e. voting for SNP to get at Labour; whilst hoping that SNP don't gain more seats? Wheres the logic? The best thing to do in that case would be to not vote at all! It's people like that who are ruining democracy; not spoilt votes. Vote for your principles. This also could be a case of the media spinning this story. I wonder how many people spoilt their ballot on purpose?
  3. Did anyone see the footage of a pile of bricks enclosed in police tape? Watch out for that chimney pot! Ridiculous....
  4. I'm afraid with the closure of the North Star you'll find it difficult to find a suitable venue.
  5. There are several reasons. Firstly I think its due to costs. Big bands have big fees, and there arent enough people here for any such gig to make big bucks. Then there is the added overheads to actually get the band here and keep them here. Another point would be logistics. Big bands will have a crew, equpment and sound engineers etc. It would be a nightmare getting it all organised. I'm not saying it can't be done, just that they'll stick with say Aberdeen; rather than taking everything here, just to find that nobody goes to the gig, if you get me... Finally if a big band did come here, it would be because they were on tour. Coming here would take at least three days off of their schedule; whereas performing in a major city on the mainland would ensure they could play another gig the following day.
  6. Indeed Styles, this is exactly why the Lib Dem's have a safe seat up here...
  7. I was rather taken-a-back to see a human being still using comic sans. I thought it was outlawed in 1066 when King Harold attempted something very similar; much to the dismay of the Normans who promptly shot him in the eye with an arrow. Having said that; I didn't get far enough past my comic sans induced stupor to notice the rest of the work...
  8. HEAR, HEAR, Brian_Harvey_Badger and in_vacanza
  9. Mass murderer's video: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6570241.stm
  10. sorry changed my avatar, he is my hero.... ^ that looked like lunch...

  12. Anyone play a premier ddrum kit? if so, where can you get spare parts online? can't really find any premier stuff...
  13. Gun crime in Britain may be on the rise, but some control is better than no control, if you get me... Our gun crime isn't any where near America's. I wonder why? Maybe because in America anyone can get one, and there affordable. Guns are extremely difficult to obtain in britain and I believe they are extremely expensive due to the risks of dealing with them... As for the constitution; theres no reason why they shouldn't change it. When is the UK likely to invade? There are so many reasons why they should. It's a no-brainer really.
  14. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6562259.stm Surely they'll get the meesage now and change their gun laws...
  15. I am interested why people choose religion? People blindly accept whatever the particular religion states as the truth, without the need for evidence, and base their entire lives around this to fulfil whatever requirements there are. I personally and I'm guessing from the feeling of the board; many others too: need evidence, or need to be looking for evidence to explain the universe around us... Science is so far ahead of religion in terms of explaining the universe etc. There's evidence, and conclusions drawn from the evidence that are proven to work. Well it’s not even a contest really; religion is nowhere in terms of being able to actually explain the universe around us, there is no evidence of religion... We all need evidence in this day and age. In everyday terms we need evidence to prove that the camera centre actually has “internet beating pricesâ€, or that pig’s can fly, everyone would need evidence to believe that the next door neighbour just jumped from Lerwick to Bressay, otherwise we instinctively disbelieve. Why then do some people not require evidence of their own existence and the teachings from their religion? It’s a contradiction surely…
  16. Marjolein it was merely a joke. I totally agree with Evil Inky. Christians are so quick to judge and take the moral high ground with matters like these (best take another look at the bible, it tells you not to). I put it to you that your religion might be offensive to me, because I am going to burn in hell?!.. (not that I'm worried, this is all hypothetical). And I remain that fundamentally it is a club. One of us and all that. If I don't repent, which I won't because I answer to no-one but myself (well maybe the wife too ), I will not have everlasting life i.e. not a "member". We are not born with a "Sinful" nature. We are born inquisitive, we are born to learn; we sometimes learn through mistakes; and if that means eating fruit then so be it... Just for the record I was brought up a Christian like so many others; my view if anything is highly enlightened on the subject at hand. How? Why?
  17. This is a bit off track but what they heck it’s getting dull I am definitely not a religious person, an atheist if you please. To all the Christians: I'm going to hell right? Good... By my reckoning I'm a good person, done some stupid stuff in the past but moved on and learned from mistakes... But still because I am not one of "them" the gates to heaven are firmly welded shut... Does anyone else find this slightly disturbing? It's like some sort of club! For all that the bible "teaches" about being a good person. This is a bit of a U-turn on basic policies, isn’t it?! At this point the Christian falls out with you, and condemns you to hell for all eternity... Then continues the conversation about corronation street like that ^ never happened...
  18. Koyaanisqatsi I think Tomasinanorman was trying to direct their arguement toward the underage/teenage population who don't have proper sex education and conform to peer pressure; unlike two consenting adults. If not I agree totally
  19. It’s now thought by physicists that, numbers for instance, exist and have existed from the "beginning of time" without human observation or interpretation. Science is not "built" on a human concept. It is "built" on the fundamental building blocks of the universe. Unlike religion which is built on a human concept. How this can possibly contend?....
  20. It is a touchy issue, but I have too many oars sticking in too few pots of stew.... I think that Abortion is totally acceptable in any circumstance really, and I do not understand the conditional abortion position. Whether the foetus is deformed or not has no bearing on whether or not it should be disposed of. The fact is your still disposing of a foetus. I realise that rape is a very serious issue when it comes to abortion, but surely if you are not for abortion you should not be for abortion in this case, you’re still disposing of an "innocent" foetus. So why is it thought to be unreasonable not to offer abortion in this case? Fundamentally it would be an unplanned and unwanted child. Therefore fundamentally you have to offer abortion to others. I believe abortion should be accessible, but I don’t think abortion is the root of the problem. Sex Education is. In countries like Holland for instance they are taught from about the age of 6 about sex. The teenage pregnancy rate there is extremely low. This is because people are able to speak openly about it and it’s not "taboo". Before people chastise abortion, they should first look at the reasons why it has to be used so often in this country...
  21. Yes I heard the IPCC had changed there minds, held god responsible, and figured that he'd sort it.... Religions jump to conlusions without the need for any evidence; isn't that a huge leap of faith? What would be the reaction be if I were to write in the shetland times next friday that a pig had been seen over muckle flugga wearing goggles and a scarf? (was that on SIBC?) Well all religious people should believe me surely... Who needs evidence? I cant believe in this day and age people still believe that tripe... Science is much much much, oh sooo much closer than "god" to solving the global warming issue. Science gathers evidence then provides answers...where's the leap of faith? But hey maybe it's "meant to be", gods plan and all that nonsense....
