  15. Thanks George, I wondered about the 2-way connection. As I thought, they can't operate as Smart meters up here yet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_meter "Smart meters enable two-way communication between the meter and the central system."

  17. ^They ask you for a reading once a month fina, and every month you get an email to remind you to read it and put it in their web site for them. That, I suppose, stops you having to put it in writing. That works for me. If you take on a tariff that is not the plain old tariff, they'll put in a smart meter for you. Then you can keep an eye on how much electricity you've used the previous day, and a wee In-home display that will show you how much you've used to that point of the present day - and the figures given to you on the wee IHD are in cash. Dead easy to see, and dead easy to know whether it's been a good day or bad.
  18. George sorry. Thank you very much for replying to my question. Your answer was very reassuring. After they had said that the heating and water might not work at all, I got a bit worried! A nice guy at Ovo told me that they are aware of the problem, and are working on a solution before the switch off. There was an interesting short bit on radio orkney a while back about somewhere that had 'piggybacked' on another transmitte. I didn't mind to listen again and take a note of the details. Octopus solution sounds so simple and logical - what type of signal do they use to send the readings info back to the mother-ship? Or do you have to send them meter readings online? Thanks again George
