sheepshagger Posted July 27, 2009 Report Share Posted July 27, 2009 Is there no one local to collect for them and spread the word, surely the cost of coming here and accomadation goes a long way to negating any money collected, no offence but I think I'll keep my money for something that is local and not just an excuse for a bit of sight seeing. colinm Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Share Posted July 28, 2009 WRVS is local, they are based in Market House, Lerwick and provide services for the elderly in Shetland and have been doing so for over 10 years. The services include 9 Social/Lunch clubs & Good Neighbours scheme & Community Transport Scheme, all services are provided by approx 60 local volunteers. I agree with you that surely local people could have been out and about collecting but unfortunately being a large national organisation some decisions are made on the mainland therefore may not be the correct decissions for a small island community like Shetland.
