Magnie-na
Can we have a section specifically for folk who keep livestock and grow veg please?

DamnSaxon
? - Might this be a good topic for a User Group? Everytime I look, it just says "Information: No Groups Exist" (Query to mods/admin: do no groups exist because nobody knows how to start/run one? Is there a Howto?) Or maybe just a new thread in, e.g., "Science and Technology"?
trout
There are quite a few userforums built for specific tasks. The varying public ones came and went. Give a shout anyone else that might want to participate in such a group and we'll see about setting something suitable up for you.

Keedle
We would definately be interested . We keep hens turkeys etc as a hobby . It would be great to be able to discuss any issues with others .
Magnie-na
Bumping this up as I think folk would feel more connected during the dark winter months - crofting/self sufficiency is hard at this time of the year and if we can talk tatties and turkeys all the better. Magnie-na
So Keedle what kind of poultry do you keep? We have some pure breed hens, ducks and geese plus other livestock. Gobbles the Norfolk spent some time with us and as magnificent as he was he became the most anticipated guest on Christmas day.
paulb
alas the fate of a turkey.we have had norfolk blacks and bronzes.planning increasing this year. they make great christmas presents.
swc123
I like the idea of a crofting/agricultural/self sufficiency forum. If only I had the plot I desire to implement it, must keep dreaming... (and looking) The peerie veg plot is just not enough!
Keedle
We keep mostly hens of various breeds . Also into the turkeys at xmas time . Only problem with them is standing out in a cold shed plucking them !
Magnie-na
Well we can always keep posting here - are folk planning to grow anything different this year? We thought we'd try asparagus and made beds last spring, I know its probably daft but we grow lots of things that we never thought possible - so I'll try growing anything within reason once. Breed Light Suss mostly and a few Bards and have crossed Hubbards with Light Suss to get a nice table bird that really doesnt lay well. Broke my heart sorting Gobbles out he was such a character, but it won't stop me getting more. Anyone interested in an egg swap in a couple of months time? paulb
try these people i thought they were quite reasonable. and they even post up here. well after i told them they were missing shetland. https://www.suppliesforsmallholders.co.uk/plants-soft-fruit-seeds-c-83.html?osCsid=6eedef05addf7146a3842cec41e6cd92 a company called more veg sells smaller packs of seeds in quite a lot of verities. there are a couple of other companies that do the same. most are 50p we mainly have red hens but with a few cochins, brahmas, legbars and dorkings and a scattering of bantams. oh yes and a bad tempered shetland cockeral.
