  1. The increase in number of weapons that the Police carry is directly proportional to how much the system has failed to keep us safe. The Police are part of that system. We are only a few steps away from the para-military style police force the yanks have. We are also fed a load of sprootle about the law, mostly by the media. It is not illegal to carry a folding, non-locking knife with a blade that does not exceed 3 inches. You would be foolish carrying one in a place that served alcohol or whilst drunk though.
  2. EE sold me a 10GB a month mobile data plan, then promptly throttled it when I started to use nearly 8GB a month. I should have spoken to OFCOM.
  3. There was an EE "showroom" van parrked outside the RBS today. I am not sure what it was doing there. Couldn't see inside it as someone drove past me at the time blocking my view.
  4. Perhaps this is what the council will invest in for the Sumburgh Airport run?
  5. I don't want them fired, I am just considering their years to retirement! Where are the replacements, or are Leasks secretly testing the latest bleeding edge autonomous buses in the dark of night in that garage of theirs?
  6. Without wishing to offend anyone, I can't but notice that the majority of our bus drivers are fast heading towards retirement age, either that or they have been overly enjoying the fiddle and accordion sessions. When these drivers get too old to point the bus in the right direction, and go home to put their slippers on for a well earned rest, who takes over the driving from them? Where do those drivers come from? I have never seen a bus with an L plate up here, so presumably we wait for drivers to be born, rather than train them?
  7. Presumably with a bus service to get the passengers right into the centre, and pick them up again.
  8. The shops in the street would moan less if they sold more. They would sell more if they stocked what the customer would like to buy. Whilst I think a range of Audemars Piguet or Patek Phillipe may be a little too much to ask, surely a bag of sweets isn’t? The shop from where I buy my sweets had a very popular line, so popular that they quickly sold out. I waited patiently whilst they came in, nothing. Asked if they had any in hiding away, no. Asked if they would be getting more in, they didn’t know. Comically walked around the shop bemoaning the lack of these sweets, no reaction. They are not made from the breath of 21 year old, blonde, Liverpudlian virgins. I am not expecting the staff to prostate themselves upon my entrance into their emporium. Oh well, at least there is usually a box of out of date stuff going cheap. It must be the goods that they stock that people don't want to buy.
  9. Oops!! It looks like I have been misleading people. The sign is not a motorbike over a car on a white background inside a red circle. It is exactly as 60north says. Time for a large slice of humble pie!
  10. George is correct. The sign at the cross means no MOTOR vehicles. As for the young kids on their scoot-along bikes, going the wrong way, criminals the lot of them I say. Lock them up, throw away the key! The Police exercise common sense on occasion and turn a blind eye, but adults should be going along Commercial Road and then riding back down the street, or alternatively pushing their bikes down the street if they are going against the flow of the traffic. Some old biddy coming out of a shop won't be expecting the cyclist to be cycling against the flow, so may not look in that direction.
  11. Perhaps someone needs to take a closer look at the road sign. A motorbike above a car on a white background with a red circle around it means no MOTOR vehicles, subject to the additional restrictions/permissions. Cyclists are amongst many non-motor vehicles that can legally ride along there, as long as they are travelling in the right direction, at any time of day or night.
  12. If you decide on EE, then you might as well go to Virgin, who use EE infrastructure, as it will be cheaper. There were some good deals to be had, such as a contract for a fiver with 500 minutes and texts I believe, but if you are already a Virgin customer you won't get the deal. EE didn't like me doing 8GB a month of the 10GB of data that I had paid for. It is a fairly common occurence for their to be no capacity left on the cell to be able to make a call where I am in the north mainland. It's probably those gits with the data packages slurping the bandwidth. I work in town and there is no EE signal in the office except if I go to a window from where I can see the Bressay tower. All the mobile providers are crap. It's just a case of finding the least crap, but they do take it in turns to be the most crap, in a random order and at random times.
  13. Rogano, in town, but worth a taxi
  14. Ah the bloody English at it again! The congestion is that bad those poor motorists are having to park on the pavements, rather than walking a few yards. They're probably English too!
  15. I don't drive so I am not speaking with any expertise on the subject, but is the paint near the speed bumps the type where you car rumbles as you drive over it? And is the paint wider on one side to suggest entering an area with likely hazards, pedestrians, and cars reversing onto the road from the pub? Is the paint narrower on the exit to suggest leaving an area with likely hazards? If so, it is well thought out.
  16. Positive might be something different like overwhelmingly food based outlets with accommodation interspersed. It doesn’t have to be the same. The “same” model seems to be a failing model.
  17. Sssh! You will start the speed bump ranting!
  18. Yes to the former. It’s rare that something opens in Lerwick that interests me, but this guy will be selling deli food, hopefully decent coffee, and cider, plus other stuff that won’t interest me, but others will queue up for. They are advertising for staff. There’s a note in the window apparently. Don’t know if there is anything in the local rag as I don’t read it.
  19. He moved to expand the business, not because it wasn’t working.
  20. Beervana has been no more for some considerable time.
  21. I think you need to let the seller know there is a problem. I bought something online today that weighs about 6 pounds. It is smaller than my fist, but obviously quite dense. Postage quote was £40 by post. I asked him to try Herpes instead, cheap parcel carrier, and he came back with £14. Some say they don't ship up here so either persuade them or shop elsewhere. I bought a wool mix blanket at the weekend and the seller said, if you order more than one I will ask you for £10 extra for the postage up there. So I ordered one. I may order another one, one at a time and everyone is happy. The other option is to get one of the cheap parcel carriers to pick up from the vendor.
