  1. I agree, it would be a shame to lose Gott Cats, even though I have a dog and no cats, my folks from south did a tour of the premises a few years ago and left donations, they were very impressed at the care and facilities they offered.
  2. I usually give mine to the bag packers, even though I pack my own bags.

  4. Phew!!!! after reading all of the posts on this topic, I bet Angel is sorry she posted now Bet she thought she'd asked a simple question, instead she started a war. Angel take heart, there's a lot of nice Shetland folk about and incomers as well

    co-op

To be honest, I've eaten at the CO-OP cafe and found it, well...Ok, but the Harbour Cafe is more central and very reasonable, very clean, and you get a good meal and a great cup of tea, what more could you want. I took my folks to both when they were here for a visit and the Harbour Cafe won hands down.
  9. I leave the house at 6.20 to drive North, and I saw 3 gritters on the go. I think they do a splendid job. But gritters aside I always drive a little more slowly and carefully when there's ice about.
  10. Ah, maybe that Mary, is the Mary from Brae, then again there's a few of them about
  11. Have a look in the craft shop next to the Hydro, I'm sure I saw a notice in the window for repair work, if I remember rightly it was a wife called Mary in Brae, I'm sure someone in there would point you in the right direction.
  12. Thanks for the link DK, I missed series 3 of True Blood, that's my weekend taken care of.
  13. So, the question was, Is it legal to use. Well was your question answered? I myself haven't a clue, but I'd go to a good dealer and make sure it was, oh and safe as well.
  14. In reply to most of the above, why do people come to live here? I came to Shetland because the lifestyle was different from everywhere else, reading the above posts, if they all came about, where's the difference from other places South, competitive fuel prices, Yes, fair delivery charges Yes, Royal Mail offer a good delivery service subject to the size and weight of the goods to be delivered, but some sellers rip us off because we're an Island, I'm happy to pay Royal Mail charges but some of the courier charges and delivery are just beyond the pale. Going back to my home town in Cumbria is sad, as they have all the above ie. Lidle, Aldi, Morrisons, etc. but no main shopping street as all the shops have closed down, are boarded up or are Charity Shops, Take away's, oh and Pound shops..... every second shop is a bloody pound shop. Do we really want to see our Beautiful Island become the same? My home town used to have the same population as the whole of Shetland, now the population has doubled, and is now around 42,000, mind that's a small, town not a group of small Island's. Me, I love Shetland and would hate it to change so much that a trip South would be no different than a trip to Lerwick, but then if all the changes came about that most of the above want to see, Lerwick would be boarded up like most towns South. People come to visit Shetland because it's different, why change it too much?
  15. I was going to Alaska and filled in the immigration card online as they insist on this, then totally forgot where I was staying as my friend was picking me up, imagine my problem when we flew into Minneapolis for a flight change and I had to go through US customs, they very nearly didn't let me in as I couldn't remember the address I was staying at, I asked them to look at the online form I'd filled in but they wouldn't do that (what's the point in filling it in then) they eventually let me phone a friend (but they dialed the number) who gave me her address. I nearly missed my onward flight to Anchorage it was very scary as they kept shouting at me about the laws of the country all the time with their hand on hip next to the gun. I was told when I got back home I should have printed out the online form, in hindsight, good idea, but having been no further than Paris, I hadn't a clue. And for any smokers, I'd to show my passport every time I bought a packet of fags.
  16. Just looked out my window and it's all white, quite a blizzard going on out there folks
  17. Just had the best Steak I've eaten for a long time at the Busta, cooked exactly how I like it, no pink, but so juicy and tender fantastic menu and easy on your pocket. I only had the main course as I can't really eat a lot at one sitting but they kindly boxed up a sweet for me to take away.
  18. Good for you, and I bet you're not often disappointed, that's an easy one to cook, it's just a bit more difficult to cook it as I like it. I've stopped ordering steak as it's either bloody or overcooked.
  19. I like my steak just gone from pink to brown, so it's still juicy and succulent, easy to cut through and very tasty. How do you like yours?
  20. I've been listening to the autobiography called White Slave, by Marco Pierre White, 'Celebrity Chef' has anyone read or listened to it or read it, if so what thoughts? It totally changed my views on the guy.
  21. Same as spinner, I'm a fan of the Python gang and I loved it, just finished watching it tonight and the actor playing John Cleese was so believable even down to the funny walk.

    Argos

Thanks NX, tried to order online but no go, so I'll need to go to the depot. I need a raised dog dish for a dog with a neck problem. Can't find anything local and Argos is looking the best bet.
