    Parish cup

Karl Williamson was on the books of Aberdeen and Brechin back in the day. Moray Leask played for a couple of clubs...possibly Brechin aswell. Glenn Gilfillan was at Berwick at one point. And Duncan Bray had a spell with Peterhead.
  2. Transformers...although I have my concerns about it. Live Free or Die Hard 300 looks a bit special. TV wise - Heroes is due to be shown on BBC in the Springtime.
  3. My morning cup of tea tastes better when it comes from my Shetlink mug.
  4. Aha. Well, apparently the song is written from a nightlight's point of view, which is pretty unique I'd imagine.
  5. The song I was quoting was "Birdhouse in Your Soul" by They Might Be Giants
  6. "Not to put too fine a point on it, say I'm the only bee in your bonnet, make a little birdhouse in your soul". The best song ever about a nightlight?
  7. You should give their newest album a try. Roddy seems to have gotten the folky stuff out of his system with his solo album last year. The album is alot more "100 Broken Windows" rather than "Warnings/Promises". You should like it.
  8. Hiarta is far too close to "HIArts" which (I think) is the name used for the Highlands and Islands art-type-thingy. Those names suggested are pretty poor, and horribly generic.
  9. Have I got the wrong Steven Henry, or are there 4 goalkeepers in that squad?
  10. I think it has more to do with the possible crowd trouble afterwards. When Rangers won the title at Celtic Park all those years ago (when they did "the huddle" at full time) I seem to remember there being severe trouble around the ground. I don't think it's an SFA/SPL matter, the police probably have more to say about it that anyone else.

    Warren Zevon

For my sins, I only discovered Warren Zevon about a year ago when I heard "Werewolves of London" on Tom Morton's radio show and, subsequently, had it stuck in my head for months without actually knowing the song. I've been listening to "A Quiet Normal Life" for a couple of weeks now after hearing the latest "Best of" a couple of weeks back. Aside from the fantastic "Werewolves of London"...I've particularly enjoyed "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner", "Lawyers, Guns and Money" and "Excitable Boy". Any other Warren Zevon fans floating about out there who can educate me on what I may have missed from his back catalogue?
  12. It wasn't the accident that they were talking about specifically. It was the general content of the show.
  13. I don't watch Top Gear, but I did watch the crash footage on the BBC website...out of morbid curiosity I guess. The whole interview bit in the studio was typical Top Gear I guess with the tongue in cheek comments, but it was kind of surreal when they cut back to the studio after showing the actual crash and there was a few seconds of complete silence. Probably the first time in his career that Clarkson has been speechless. I suppose another way this thread could go, what do you actually think of the material that Top Gear puts out? I remember, back in the day, it used to be car reviews but it seems to have taken a turn towards "3 guys cocking about in cars" in the past few years. Does anyone agree with the "it encourages bad drivers" line the press were using after Richard Hammond's crash?
  14. As described by my english teacher... "On a tomato poem"

    HO-LY SH!T

And Coachella have managed to reform The Jesus and Mary Chain for their festival aswell. It seems to be a selling point of the festival, Janes Addiction and The Pixies played their first shows after reforming at the event. I remember last year the organisers offered The Smiths alot of money to reform. Just looking at the festival flyer for this year... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/11/Coachella.JPG/450px-Coachella.JPG That is what I call a music festival.
  16. Or indeed, Kevin Smith's "Clerks". Filmed using his friends as actors in the store where he worked and using money he had borrowed from various friends and family.
  17. Scottish variation - Boak. "that mince pie gave me the boak"
  18. Interesting posts Vagaland. I wasn't belittling the methods or the efforts that were made during the filming of the Devil's Gate, I'll put that across now. There does appear to be a reasoning behind why it has never been released on DVD in the UK so far, so thanks for clearing that up. My gripe with the film was that it just wasn't very good (opinions etc...)
  19. I saw the comments made by the Shipwrecked contestant on Sunday. They were fairly silly, I initially thought they were made just to stir up some controversy, but I think it might have something to do with the girl spending the last 10 years at boarding school. She would like to see the return of the British Empire "with slavery". And she said that she didn't like black people, but seconds later admitted she didn't actually know any. I'm not entirely convinced this was the right weekend for Channel 4 to show this program given the events of last week. However they are insistant that she changes her views later in the series, infact towards the end of last weeks episode she was shown speaking to a guy who was, as her islandmates said..."not completely white".
  20. I got a letter informing me I was on the list for jury service in Shetland whilst I was at Uni in Dundee. I wrote them a letter telling them that me leaving Dundee to go back to Shetland wouldn't really be practical, but I would require flights should they decide to call me up. Never heard from them again. Does anyone know...can you refuse to do jury service? Say, for example, I had been called up whilst at Uni and point blank refused to travel up to Shetland for it. Would I have been slapped in the clink as soon as I set foot on Shetland again?
  21. I could go a Pot Noodle right now actually, alas there is nowhere within sensible walking distance (it's cold and windy, "feels like -5" according to ForecastFox) at the moment. I'll just make do with my sandwich As for Fray Bentos pies...I bought one in my very first week of my first year at Uni because they looked really nice in the adverts and stuff. I have never smelled anything so unappealing in all my days.
  22. Aye, but the article doesn't mention that the "salvager" may then be liable to pay the owner of the bike up to double the cost of the bike itself. That's on top of the £2500. Nasty. The Police don't actually have any power to arrest any of the salvagers as they have only committed a crime if they don't declare the goods that they have taken from the beach. All they can do is hand them the relevant forms.
  23. Heheheh. I'm enjoying the game thus far. It's been kinda odd having so many Horde and Alliance in the same area them not fighting much. There are, of course, a few idiots. I'm not enjoying Zangramarsh much, it reminds me of Duskwallow. And Duskwallow is rubbish. Our server has been pretty ropey, it went down every night last week, more than once on Saturday and then it went offline 8 or 9 times yesterday apparently. I gave up even trying to play in the end.
  24. No doubt. This whole debacle, regardless of if she is shown to be racist or not, will probably end her media career. We should maybe run a "sprootle Bingo" game after some of them come out of the house, 10 points goes to the one who can find the phrase "I'm not racist, I have lots of black friends" in any of the interviews when they leave the house.
