  1. ^ Ignorant, or maybe shy & uncomfortable dealing with people? Bit of an odd reaction from you Malcolm, not giving the benefit of the doubt. Sure, maybe not the exchange you'd expect at the checkout, but I'm always happier with efficiency over false chumminess (ever been to an Asda?)
  2. Hasn't there just been a report that some scientists have seen what might be the signs that the Universe is actually just a huge computer simulation? Presumably running on someone's laptop Life imitating Art? Perhaps DA knew too much...
  3. "Stars are simple.." and that is from a Professor, who outranks an undergraduate http://uk.news.yahoo.com/huge-alien-planet-is--made-of-diamonds---say-scientists.html
  4. To be fair, that's the first move they've made since the extension was put up (afaik). When I lived south my local Sainsbury's used to move stuff seemingly on a monthly basis. Got to say the Tesco rearrangement doesn't seem very logical as they've had to split up some stuff that you'd expect to be in the same aisle. No doubt there's a method to their madness Oh yes, Christmas is a-comin'
  5. Ah, good - now I know it's not just me! Gives me a warm glow to know I'm not alone
  6. Has anyone else started having problems with pages "jumping" to a blank page with just a horizontal black rectangle? It seems to be linked to the banner ad (the Mazda2 one I think) that appears below the site tabs. Takes me several hits with the back button before I get the page I want to stop automatically forwarding to the black rectangle. Could be a Flash problem I suppose, but doesn't happen with the different ads down the left side, or any of the other horizontal ads.
  7. Not bad further north - screeched to a halt by Girlsta Loch, grabbed this handheld resting on the car roof! Why do I never have a tripod with me when this happens? http://i1166.photobucket.com/albums/q611/brentnall/Shetlink/DSC00764_zps34f1e84e.jpg
  8. According to BT I'm actually beyond the range of the supported service, but I still get consistently low ping and as much speed as I'd expect where I am (highest ever is 1.6Mb, bit down tonight) so there must be something else going on for your high ping? http://www.speedtest.net/result/2223660802.png
  9. Watch out for any birthday bus, you'll likely get a free view - or apparently also if you go to watch the footie next to Clickimin
  10. Ah ok - interesting upgrade with a possible trojan though
  11. Just had Kaspersky throw this back when I tried to get onto the main page The requested URL cannot be provided The requested object at the URL: http://shetlopedia.com/Main_Page Threat detected: object infected HEUR:Trojan.Script.Generic Is it just me, or is Kaspersky having a hissy fit over nothing?
  12. Looks like the spammer has been deleted. My guess is though that he can just re-create his account and carry on regardless. It's obviously not a uk seller so there's little that can be done by the Mods - even blocking the IP used is unlikely to thwart people like this. I agree in this case that the product being pushed is pretty distasteful, but on the whole the spamming is pretty funny with the lame attempts at "fitting in" with their pish-poor (or overly formal) command of english - see the Neil Armstrong thread today.
  13. I don't understand what you're getting at. Pull together? Rowing in what direction? Norway... Faroe... Oblivion? Tsk, that should be "could have" ... Oh hang on, is that a subtle link to the school closures?
  14. My Dad admitted to me that he has just "thwarted" some scammers - he's got a new pc, and after a couple of days using it he had a call from the "Hewlett Packard fraud protection centre". Supposedly his pc was sending out spam and the caller gave him all sorts of details about his pc and connection and some personal details. To prove that they were from HP, the caller told him to look at the screen and magically the cursor moved of its own accord and opened various folders etc. Then the mention of a "small" fee to resolve the security issue came, at which point my dad claims he stopped them in thir tracks by refusing to talk further (another person took over the call to him and became quite agitated, all part of the "service" of course). At that point I queried as to how they were able to take control of his pc without him having cooperated (he at least has AVG installed so a trojan attack was unlikely). "Oh," he says, "they asked me to click on a few things to confirm I was on the computer and then type in some security codes..." Oh, and the call centre was naturally staffed by Indian nationals with a poor command of English. How did they know so much about him? HP is one of the big brands that has its products assembled in China - the hard disk was likely pre-installed with malware, similar to http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/sep/14/malware-installed-computers-factories-microsoft
  15. West Navigator - you have to zoom right in to separate her from the Normand Arctic
  16. Did the lighting designer miss an opportunity in Mareel? Maybe a few tanks of this stuff dotted around might have given the foyer a more mystical appearance! http://islavieques.com/biobay.html
  17. Just found a note on the second layer of pages that the site is still beta, so perhaps it is an inhouse job? Might have helped to put that on the front page! I see there is a survey for suggestions so I'll add my two penn'orth there. Glad to see there is an alternative to commenting via Faceachebook
  18. Hope the powers that be don't get all huffy with "facecloot" re-posting their data. It's a perfect example of "less is more". I gave up trying to make head or tail of the sideways in-page pdf that the BoxOffice had for Word- & Screenplay. Just had a look at the Mareel front page - being slightly colourblind, the name appears to me to be "MAREE"
  19. Toilet humour at its finest? Not so sure about the fond reminiscing over Izel Bumshiner though
  20. Chemtrail generators? Of course this might be the CIA rendering prisoners to a secret facility on Forvik. Guano Bay, perhaps?
  21. Would it be the case that it was one of her Majesty's finest that has been caught out?
  22. Have to agree with Kavi, the revolving door is badly sized. It looks big enough for 2 people to go in each section, but when I did with a friend it was just too compact and I got my heels bumped repeatedly. One person at a time is too slow for a group going through. I suppose there was a size limit with the need (?) for proper doors either side as well, but the free-wheeling system is very likely to claim some victims - especially when there are enthusiastic youngsters pushing it, as there seemed to be little resistance. I hope they have plenty of 1st Aiders to hand. The system at the Museum is excellent - although I have heard of small children getting trapped halfway through after touching the rear of the door and triggering the autostop. But better a briefly frightened child than a bunch of broken fingers.
  23. maybe if some people cut back on their drinking this wouldn't be the case... That said, I had a cat which peed right in the middle of my bed (I wasn't in it at the time!) straight through a £600 year-old mattress
