  1. When I was in town earlier I noticed builders working in the old stage door televradio premises. New shop....Bar.......... I wonder ?
  2. Its easily big enough Colin, we have to be realistic in regards to retail with the internet competition, good pubs and eateries attract people, those people buy things in transit its the model of many shopping areas down the road , pie/chips n 6 pints and away shopping you go
  3. once the chemist goes I can see a eatery or pub in there perfect location.
  4. Jobs for da boys when da roadie men get to rip it all up again
  5. So you have Smith of Lerwick up for sale Laings Chemist moving soon Kanterstead Tattie Shop deserted ? Noost up for sale Televradio/stage door empty Dennis Coutts shop empty Did I miss any ?
  6. I just want the tattie shop re-opened and restored to its former glory with loads of fillings for the tatties
  7. Scumbags because they use their sheer size to undercut other shops then up the prices after they have driven out the opposition, Capitalism at its finest.
  8. Tesco are scumbags in that regard one of there managers wanted to close local shops and also the co-op
  9. I went to Toll clock again today for butcher meat , yes no Tesco meat for me only chicken from there But walking threw I noticed loads of damaged floor tiles areas of the internal walls with water marks, quite a lot of the roof lights either switched off or not working, basic stuff that could be sorted.............
  10. Well the sheeting is rotten around windows and doors on the car park side I guess its not bad enough to consider fixing. The Shopping Centre sign is only missing the E so not a great worry lol
  11. Yes it would be costly but surely the business plan has to have a budget for at least repairs to the existing building ?
  12. The toll clock is another eyesore , a mismatch of old roof/wall sheeting which is rusted threw in areas, even the big sign on the wall is missing a letter but nothing ever gets repaired and a mini market that's in need of a gut out and make over, not to mention those ghastly toilets downstairs, it isn't too bad inside in other parts, same old story though I am sure they think its still 1967 !
  13. No connection to MJs but I will add it was the most mainland like experience on the street with regards to atmosphere and service I have experienced, the only negative was the internet was down so no wifi. Another positive I noticed was the table and sun visor outside harbor chippee, with a good group of visitors sitting eating. regarding south firms on the street the more the merrier, very backward thinking not to welcome them and let them build up and the street thrive.
  14. I went today had a stroll around a bite to eat at Montery Jacks and did a full walk of the street, I have to say it was disappointing to see Universal stores closed because it was Wednesday and also a lot of shops closing up at 5 even though there was a small cruise boat in. Dennis Coutts shop is another empty one in a great spot but what could it be used for ????
  15. What in your ideal vision do you see the town centre being Ghostie and Suuusssiieee ?
  16. The butcher and baker are long gone ? , does Tesco not having something to do with that ? You pair are terrible and totally misguided blaming the town centre state on the SIC only , what about internet shopping ???
  17. The Town is improving though with the recent openings of Shetland food larder and the up and coming bigger Beervana, plus Montery Jacks, what needs sorted though is the Noost to be bought, something done with the old Televradio shop, and when the chemists move that needs gutted and redone into something good, then finally the mess that is the tattie shop.
  18. The SIC do recycling at the dump. And they also do it indirectly with the Cope scrap store, I heard locally that they signed a deal with the government called 0 waste which will see a purpose built facility taking out plastics, metals, glass, and anything else to recycle . I think they sale room was in the wrong location anyway and that area would be much better used for more housing.
  19. Fair enough I get your point and I probably did over react a bit and let my guts rumble But I honestly don't think a lot of young people move away just because of jobs , lets be honest they go south do Uni and find a far more enjoyable lifestyle with regards to meeting new people, things to do, the ease of transport and holidays and in general much more scope for enjoyment. Spend a few weekends around Shetland pubs and clubs, sample a local sports event in comparison to a mainland one for atmosphere, try taking your family off this island without paying £££££, find a decent gig to go to etc etc the list goes on, don't get me wrong great place to stay for safety and the outdoors but it is seriously lacking in other departments and that is the reason they go and don't return.
  20. 7N Architects includes David Adamson and Partners a local firm. Next time read the article properly before allowing your stomach to rumble. Further more the choosen company are experts in this field with a proven track record on similar projects, a south firm is a benefit to all local industries when the workers travel here using our accomidation and spending there pennies in local businesses. There is plenty of work here for local firms and they also do project work south so the narrow minded thinking is pointless.
  21. Terrible things cruise ships , huge carbon footprint to run them never mind the filthy dirty water they release into our seas !
  22. Its actually all new Volvo models will be either EV or Hybrid from 2019 , current models will continued to be produced in either petrol or diesel well after 2019........................!
  23. Bad news all around for the environment then , your living in cloud cuckoo land if you can not see how bad this is , do your research !
  24. Further more we have allowed a massive corporation or 2 , where the lamb from the local supermarket is imported from New Zealand , in an age where we are trying to be more energy efficient why aren't we ensuring both the chained supermarkets sell local eggs , meat , and vegetables and help reduce our foods carbon foot print, I know they sell fish already and one sells eggs and bread but the rest should be there to encourage growth and jobs in our farming and local industry, jobs, fresh food what is not to like ? even if it costs a bit more.
  25. Just donate all under sized fish to the schools for the kids , we have some of the richest fishing grounds here yet we cant give our children fresh fish every week ! disgrace !
