  1. Had lunch in Busta House again last week. Can't praise it enough really good food and reasonably priced. I just wish they would do more with the outside of the building. They have a amazing sheltered sun trap at the main door. Why not put a couple of tables there?

Also had lunch in the French place. The food was nice although the service seemed a bit chaotic. Downside is that the wife hated the coffee and you couldn't get just a plain cup of tea. Will definitely be back though.

Was also in Teamore and although I hate those thin chips served in silly baskets the fish was actually really nice. Although a much smaller portion than the Fort.

Will be trying the Dowry a few times when I get home.

Looks like our police state is getting a bit closer..

Anyone else think that the police should not have access to any weapons that the rest of us can't have?

Not a great supporter of the police by any means but it looks like a sensible precaution to take. To have the training and the tasers available. But if used illegally I would expect to see prosecutions.

  3. i am a bit concerned about the recycling project ....if i make a mistake in putting things in the wrong bin am i going to be FINED  for a simple mistake ...i am 77 years young and i have senior moments ...also will the bruck wagon come down my croft road to collect my bins ?  i am not able to drag them up the steep hill ...the S I C  and their blinkered wisdom has not thought the rural senario in the isles

Where does the cart pick your bins up from at the moment?

  4. I think most houses will just be putting all waste in the black bag regardless of what it's made out of.

The best recycling was the local auction which the council refused to help in recent years.

There are some pile of stuff going in skips and to the dump now, including valuable museum pieces, perfectly good furniture, working white goods etc due to no local auction.

    Now, that is waste.

Really how many Jam jars and plastic bottles did you see at the auction?

  5. @playlist - WTF is it with you and your passive aggressive attacks on folk?  According to your crystal ball, just because folk have a difference of opinion, you have undertaken a GIGANTIC leap to the assumption that none of us would help a stranger.  WHERE has it been reported that the bar member of staff in question does not give a damn?  Don't let the truth get in the way of your rant, will ya, because nowhere that I'm aware of has it been reported that the staff member doesn't give a flying {'f' it was funny in Father Ted 'eck'}.

The irony of this post makes my eyes burn!

  6. Regarding the guilty plea, he's probably been briefed that if he goes 'not guilty' and it doesn't pan out - then his licence is smoked.

More of a damage limitation excersise as opposed to an outright admission of guilt............

No an outright admission of guilt is exactly what it is.

You are normally " briefed" to plead not guilty until your lawyer gets a chance to see the evidence and what witnesses turn up on the day.

  7. "I don't believe anyone is suggesting that the law is wrong. What folk are saying is that this clown ended up with a broken wrist through their own stupidity and repeated refusal to carry out a reasonable and lawful request. Not through a direct malicious action by the barman. Unfortunately the courts have taken a different view."

Some people would say that but the truth is that the guy ended up with a broken wrist because he was assaulted. The courts took the only view they could because Mark Toka pled guilty

  8. Read What is council tax Mikey. It shows that it is used to pay for rubbish collection, among other things.

This is the bit I am talking about George

"They are paid to pick up every last piece. They are paid to do the whole lot."

"Really, you don't believe that the council do that? I would suggest that they do. They have online a statement telling us that they do. "

  9.

But have a van now and just run the big stuff along with my recycling to the dump when I have too. So will be quite happy to get my recycling picked up.

I'm sure that works out fine for you, Mikeyboy. Unfortunately, not all of us drive so that is not applicable to all.

So will be quite happy to get my recycling picked up.

And remember, when your recycling is picked up, it is picked up at a cost. You pay the council for it now. You haven't always but I don't think that they've mentioned that, can't think why though.

I only speak for myself  George, saying that have always been happy to run locals stuff to the dump.

Sorry George i don't understand your last comment. You have always paid for rubbish uplift in your rates/council tax.

  10.

^I don't agree that the council are paid to pick up every last piece. They are responsible for education/ awareness, enforcement and picking up litter, so far as is practicable. Not fair to offload the whole problem on the council. I believe there is a responsibility on the whole community not to drop litter in the first place and show good will to assist in the cleanup as its a far reaching problem. Also not wholly our fault what floats in on the tide, but sadly it becomes our collective problem.

Really, you don't believe that the council do that? I would suggest that they do. They have online a statement telling us that they do. Of course, if you don't agree you could look up their claims regarding what they do with your council tax and who pays for the essy kert to to come around.

Can you post a link George I can't find that on the SIC website.

  11. I used to try and use community skips. They were always full by the time I got to one. Far too much builders/ commercial waste in them, leaving little chance for the general public. I got a calendar of dates and locations once and turned up less than 24 hours after the skip was placed to find it virtually full of building waste, rubble, timber, plasterboard etc. Glad they're gone. Stick it in the car and drive to Gremista now. Skips were just a bonus at the time if you were lucky enough to find space in one.

Same in this area (Mossbank) you could rarely get stuff in them.

I have hired a skip a few times and it is not too expensive if you are having a clear out. But have a van now and just run the big stuff along with my recycling to the dump when I have too. So will be quite happy to get my recycling picked up.
