  3. ^I'm not 100% sure of what you say regarding Gaelic, Claadehol. I would bet that when the Picts that worked on Mousa Broch turned up there is a good chance that they will have spoken Gaelic, as quite possibly Neolithic man may have done, if it was around when he arrived. That may well not have lasted with them, possibly Norn taking over but until approx 8000 B.C.E you could walk from Stornoway to Unst, therefore people with that tongue would have been about. However, I do agree with what you say about Gaelic road signs. Gaelic is not relevant to modern day Shetland, and if Norn was used then how much use would that be now? Would it be anymore relevant?
  4. I would suggest that both spelling and grammar have their place. Without one, the other is irrelevant. Having said that, an unnecessary pair of apostrophes comes over as just that, unnecessary. Each to their own, though. And yes, txt spk makes one thing very clear.......
  5. I doubt very much that I have ever suggested that spelling is not important, Claadehol. As I'm sure you will know only too well, if an error is made in the spelling of a word, it is only too easy to tell another story. Yes, spelling of the English language is under serious threat and yes, it's mainly the fault of those that can't be bothered. Both Norn and Gaelic have their worth and it becomes clearer and clearer just which language I would prefer to see the back of, and which I would prefer to see being brought back. However, I suspect that I know only too well which group of people would disagree.
  6. I'm very grateful that my uncle was never called, "Jerk", as it would probably have made his life very difficult. Right, time to go back on about the Shetland Space Centre. Lower case or upper case is, obviously, irrelevant, (We won't mention the full stops, question marks or exclamation marks - this week!). Just like Uncle Jack, or Jerk, whatever he was called. At the end of the day, who really cares what he was callled or thought about. After all, he may well have been left handed and, therefore, facing the other way. Will they ever open a petrol station anywhere near the Space Station, does anybody care, and if they do would they be good enough to get me five gallons of diesel in an old plastic can?
  7. Grammar is important. Capital letters are the difference between, "Helping your Uncle Jack off a horse", and, "helping your uncle jack off a horse."
  8. Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
  9. A chocolate watch factory? Yarn, yarn, yarn. Yack, yack, yack. Chit-chat, chit-chat, chit-chat. Blether, blether, blether. Waffle, waffle, waffle. Blah, blah, blah. Yawn out loud. Aw jings, is it that time already??? Definitely need to go to bed, whether it's morning, noon or night.
  10. Just come across a wee bit more. Things are still going to happen, it seems. Shetland Space Centre secures investment from Wild Ventures Limited
  11. ^I replied to the original post on this thread. ^^"Sincere apologies!, i thought your point was that the topic is being blown up or inflated because the last few replies are full of hot air.", or possibly, "Sincere apologies, I thought your point was that the topic was being blown up or inflated because the last few replies are full of hot air!" Grammar wins - but to remain relevant IsleSat would be worth considering.
  12. Is it a balloon, is it just a balloon or is it nothing more than a balloon? That is the question, or are they just conceptualizing about balloons? P.S There is a thread directly related to Covid-19. P.P.S "Postscript", has a definition.
  13. Balloon, balloon, balloon. Not that it's relative to anything, it really never is.
  14. ^It may well be worth considering satellite broadband then.
  15. ^Would suggest going to somewhere like Uswitch and, using your postcode, check for the fastest and/or cheapest available.
  16. Has Westminster destroyed our fishing, and business related to our fishing? Prepare your fisheries business for changes from 1 January 2021
  17. No, I do not. Having said that, I doubt very much that I will ever forget the wee map that included the Fair Isle - or the guff that came before, during and after, or the guff that has been written on a thread that deals with Covid-19. It will stay that way.
  18. ^We must al be English then. I understand they all went to somewhere around planet Mars, but I bet that they'll have done bugge.............. They never will, that's because they're English
  19. Haahaa, the French are everywhere. James V married Madeleine of Valoi, born just outside Paris. She gave birth to Mary, Queen of Scots. Foreigners everywhere.
  20. Hi Claadehol. Good test done, as it shows both Shetland and Orkney. I will need to consider having this done next.
  21. Don't worry, Colin. It does have the Fair Isle in the wee box that has Qrkney in it. That's maybe because it was done originally by the Daily Mail. Written and printed nowhere near us or so I believe, so in relation to Shetland it's null and void. Hee hee
  22. ^Thank you, Claadehol. Luckily I had a D.N.A test done some years ago and it showed up as, after being assessed by MyHeritage, being 85.6% Scottish, Irish and Welsh, 13.3% Scandinavian and 1.1% as Mesoamerican. I'm grateful to only get the areas mentioned - very grateful. Have you had a similar test done, and if so, did it show similar, or different results? Fingers crossed
  23. ^SNP react to Dominic Cummings's Christmas depature from No 10 I believe that Cummings is a foreigner, just like the vast amount of Westminster (Just like the rest of the English), so there's not a lot worth talking about.
  24. ^Yawn, and then a full stop, question mark or, of course, an exclamation mark - unless, of course....... Grammar, grammar, grammar - and on it goes.
