  1. I was up feeding baby and thought a big lorry had driven past the house! Then I realised what time it was and couldn't work out what it had been. Better half slept through it!
  2. Thank you to those that have PM'd me. I will reply - but am still practicising typing with 1 hand and holding baby with the other - I'm getting better at it!
  3. Checked with Health Visitor- no breast feeding support groups in Shetland. Thanks for the virtual support Khit, every little helps. I never realised how blooming hard BF would be! But will keep trying. If there are any mums (or dads!) who are/have/plan to Breast feed, who want to get in touch, compare notes and support each other, please contact me. I'm not online as much as I used to be, but am trying to practice BF and typing at the same time.
  4. Anyone know of any breast feeding support groups in Shetland?
  5. Hi Bullet-in-the-mailman, Do your friends still have tickets for sale? Looking for 2 for Hampden. Cheers Hollian
  6. I have driven with studded tyres in Shetland over the years. Dad always warned me not to go to fast due to the risk of skidding (I think?), also keep the speed down as you wear down your studs and the road! You have a different type of traction with the road when you drive with studs.
  7. I doubt that's it sold out everywhere. oh well, saved some money.
  8. and here's me with 1 phone & 1 PC. Just got through on the phone - 14/4/09 & 16/4/09 completly sold out!
  9. nooooooooo! Which website are you looking at? I'm been trying the O2 one. My better half is gonna be so peed off if we canna ge tickets.
  10. Well done you! I'm been trying since lines opened - by phone and online - finally on hold - hopefully I'll be lucky too!
  11. Abacus was at Ackrigarth, Sound. Now closed.
  12. Sky have also phoned Mam (who has Sky) and Granny (who doesn't have Sky), to ask the same question. (Weird?! - but we do have the same surname and there is only 4 households with our surname in Shetland - anyway nothing to do with Sky!) Away to phone Sky on a cheaper no than the 0870 they gave me (cheaper no courtesy of http://www.saynoto0870.com/ ) Freezing was the word the person used who phoned me. I would say pixelated would be closer. When you switch on a channel affected, part of the picture is pixelated, then the whole picture does freeze. I'll let you know how I get on.
  13. I have just had the strangest phone call from someone who said they were calling on behalf of Sky. They were asking if I had problems with my Sky picture freezing, as there had been others in my area who had complained. Now funnily enough I have had problems lately, but thought it was because I had an old box and the dish is getting rusty! Anyway, once I told him I had problems I was given Sky's Customer service number to phone and they will get an engineer out to have a look. I'm a bit of a cynic, and don't trust cold callers, but it is the correct Sky Customer Service number he gave me. I also don't want a huge repair bill for something that isn't really causing me any problems. (the channels that are freezing are ones I rarely watch) Before I phone Sky, anyone else in Shetland having any problems?
  14. From The Shetland News website today: http://www.shetland-news.co.uk/news_04_2008/Mareel%20advert%20might%20cause%20a%20stink.htm (hope I've posted that link right!) Does anyone know which of the seven councillors have signed Allison Duncan's notice of motion to drop the Mareel? Is this info in the public domain?
  15. When I was little (30+ years ago) we visited family in Skeld a lot. Which meant driving past Park Hall. I loved the building then and still love it now. Though it makes me feel sad that it is so negelected. It's mass concrete, so I would think it would be beyond repair (well, nothing is beyond repair - if you throw enough money at it). It gives me the shivers every time I go past - to me it has always looked scary and romantic. It used to belong to the Bowies, no idea who owns it now. There are a few Wastside folk on here - I'm sure they would be able to let you know who owns it now. Would the land registery be able to help? I think it should be listed (I'm sure many others would disagree), I feel it is such an iconic landmark when you are going Wast. Hope your project goes well - is it from a history or architecture point of view or both!
  16. Yuck, Yuck and double Yuck. I would tell the Coop. You may get a free mango out of it!
  17. I understand from the local press there was hustings on the eve of the election where only half the councillors turned up. I'm sure I spoke to one of the prospective councillors on the Saturday before the elections and he mentioned being at a hustings days before that. Have I dreamt that? Were there two hustings and the local press has concentracted on one of them?
  18. Sorry to hear that Bryan. I've also had a cat run over & killed, it's brawly sad.
  19. I had a tear in my eye when I read Bob's story - or rather Bob's cat's story. My hoose wouldna be the same without my two moggies - one bad tempered and one thick! I hope this moggie finds it's way home. All my cats have also come from the CPL. I would fill the house with pusses - but better half says I'm not allowed!
  20. I have been slowly liberating Coopie trolleys at the rate of one a week for oooohhhh ages. I just pull the token back out when I think no one is looking - I do feel incredibly guilty each time I do it, however I do also have a peerie giggle when I think of my grandad (who was quite a stand up for his rights kind of person), and I think he is up there looking down on me, egging me on!!!!
  21. ^^ Sorry Para handy, I'm not getting your post about 12 silly women in silly hats or 12 men in grubby raincoats. Surely it is democratic - we all had 1 vote - it was up to the indivdual if they used it or not. Someone else mentioned the weather - I can't see this being a problem in Shetland - we are all used to c*rap weather - don't matter wether we are young or old, we just get on with it. I voted just after 5pm, I was told that Gulberwick hall had a better turn out (%ish wise) than the Gibbie at that point. Anyway, I'm not really into politics - just want our elected councillors to represent the ward they stand for.
  22. ^^ me too, I'm now extra careful when coming out the toon.
