In Norway all game is protected during Christmas and New Year. All kind of hunting is strictly prohibited from December 24th until January 2nd... I think this law should be used in Shetland too.... ....or this thread should be locked ...it has just ended up with a lot of bull poo....
  6. If anybody sends a Jeremy Clarkson DVD to Auld Rasmie.....I will not tell what I will do (it is against the law) !!!!!!!! And PS: I use my real first name
  7. OK, I know I'm an IDIOT, Just forget it ... And the church people had the chance to answer last time I posted the link...thought it was worth the try, not worse than "I'm back" as a headline I thought.... Mods, better delete the whole thing !!
  8. Hopefully someone from Northmavine reads this...I thought about joining their forum and ask there about the Tangwick Chapel.... I see that the Mods has changed the name on my thread....I made that that "Please Read" title just so that people who normally are not interested in Churches and Chapels could stumble in, and maybe they could know something.......but the Mods are the bosses.... Another thing I wonder about is if someone could happen to have a picture of the Swedish Fishermen's Church in Baltasound...as I understand it, the building blew down in a hurricane in the early 1990's....I have really no idea where in Baltasound it stood, so I have no chance to find it on old Museum pictures...
  9. Thank you so far....Now at least I can make a page for the West Sandwick one...I just call it West Sandwick Kirk... It would be interesting to know someting about the one up in Unst.... and also the one near Tangwick Haa.. Shetland Museum has a picture of a cross : http://photos.shetland-museum.org.uk/index.php?a=wordsearch&s=item&key=Wczo4OiJUYW5nd2ljayI7&pg=46 They say it is probably in the chapel at Tangwick....I wonder if that was the house I have a pic of ..it looks very much like a former chapel..Then is the question, what kind of chapel ; C. of Scotland, Methodist or something else..
  10. This link goes to a page with kirks I know more or less nothing about : http://shetlopedia.com/Category_talk:Churches_and_Chapels Please Shetlinkers, take a look at it...just little bits of info is useful !! Cheers, Oddrun
  11. ^^ Chuckle helps when it comes to the swine flu too, I think..... saw somewhere that it is many houndred times bigger chance that you are run over by a car than getting seriousy ill with the swine flu.....
  12. ^^ A bit off topic, no baby food included, but a comment to jungleknott's post. Last summer when we were going back to Norway, I really got the impression that there was a BIG differece between Shetlanders and foreigners Da Auld Een went first, he had a couple of cameras and God knows what else in his backpack....he just wandered through... Then me..I had three cameras, chargers for both mine and his cameras, and some other small electronics. I was well prepared, had taken off all jewellery, belt buckle and all that could beep, so that went smooth -- but I was body searched...and then I had to dig out everything of my backpack,,well, I'm used to that, women''s hand luggage can contain many mysterious things , but a new thing; I had to open all cameras and show them that they really could take pictures, and explain what all other things was....while Da Auld Een stood laughing on the other side..... So there is a difference
  13. I use IE normally, and it works good enough for me, but I also have installed Flock to compare how Shetlopedia pages looks on both browsers....
  14. Change to Flock, Da Auld Een says it's much safer than Firefox.....and I have heard a lot funny about Firefox lately too...
  15. Have worked fine for me all day, and I've been editing too....
  16. ^^ Solrun is also a very common Norwegian female name Cheers
  17. It's maybe a little bit late to introduce myself now...I've been into this forum more than two years.... But there's been a lot of he/she/age recently so: Well, my username is my real first name,,,believe it or not I am female, well into the fifties (Can't believe it ). I am Norwegian, living in north west Norway, (also known as Trowieland). Living happily with da Auld Een, (also known as Auld Rasmie), which I imported dutyfree from Shetland. He refers to me as "Da Trowie" or "Peerie Trowie" - depends of the mood I'm also into Shetlopedia, trying to deal with the more recent history of Shetland...wartime and so on...and known to be the one who ask silly questions about everything... CHEERS
  18. There is still a updated webpage : http://www.loonyparty.com/
  19. Have just read the article, James....You have been VERY clever, and done a fantastic job. It is absolutly the biggest project on Shetlopedia until now...and I think there never will be anything like it !!! Congratulations !!!!!
  20. http://shetlopedia.com/Image:Tanisola.JPG It must have existed, but we have no info on it on Shetlopedia...
  21. ^^ Interesting.... You could be right there... they look very similar, but there are more decorations on the cornes of the one on the Tolbooth...
  22. ^^ http://photos.shetland-museum.org.uk/index.php?a=wordsearch&s=item&key=Wczo1OiJDbG9jayI7&pg=19 Does this help on the senility Da Auld Een is worse, because he was convinced that it still was there He would not believe me when I said it not existed on any picture from the last years....and that I had never seen it!! I like clocks, and if I had seen something like that, I sure would have taken a picture... Thank you for the answers !!
  23. ^^ I will not skin you, EM !!! I will agree with you You are right about that it is hopless to find useful info on what was going on in Shetland during WW II....I long time ago made a Category "Wartime Shetland" on Shetlopedia...well, there is not much more than "Bus" and "MTB's" that's got into that...I thought that when I first saw how many troops there had been on the Islands, there must be a lot to write about....NO...No info anywhere...so if someone knows ANYTHING ..tell me !! Cheers
