  1. Can't compare with air to air heating. Far more efficient and controllable. Cost wise is probably about the same but air to air will pay for itself sooner
  2. Hi We have installed Dantherm systems for a number of years now in Shetland. We have had no problems. If your house is tight and well insulated it will have damp problems as the moisture stays in the building. We design and fit and maintain too. If you need and advice then please get in contact. 3. Hi We install Panasonic Air To Air sytems. We have a show house in Brae that has wall, floor and roof mounted units installed. We have an internet energy monitor recording usage. Orkney is far ahead of Shetland installing air to air systems. They are extremely efficient compared to storage heaters. And very controllable heating when you want it. Brae building Centre, Brae Hall and Ollaberry Hall have it installed. We have done homes in Yell, Whalsay, Lerwick and Brae too. If you want advice or a free quote just call or email me. 4. So why has the new die Hard movie not come here yet?
  5. Got a picture but not sure if its any good, nothing on Shetnews or Shetland news !
  6. Air source Heat pumps can run radiator systems at 65oc now even at -15oc. It will cost a quarter of the cost of running a house on storage heaters and save about a third on the cost of running it on oil. Your water does not have to be heated to 60oc as with an immersion heater 50oc is fine, and it is run up to 60oc once a week for legionella purposes. The house needs to have good loft insulation and possibly the cavity walls may need to be filled, underfloor insulation may ned to be upgraded There are grants available for all of this. The Renewable heating incentive is due to be announced soon. It should pay back anything from £800 - £2000 per year for 18 years on air source systems. With added savings on your fuel bills it is a great incentive to go green and save money
  7. The Renewable Heating Incentive that is due to be announced will make it worth while investing in MCS accredited units. This will help to pay for the Heat pumps and give you a return on your investment
  8. Brae is really bad either down the road from the hall to the sewage works. Or below the police station of all places down to the beach, Crap everywhere. I dont understand how dog owners can let there dogs do it and let young children be able to step in it. Disgusting !
  9. If he doesn't already know, I'm sure Bill Manson will soon become aware that there are schools in his ward (which includes Delting and Lunnasting as well as just Northmavine) which stand to be affected. However, perhaps he and fellow members in a similar position should bear in mind that those opposing school closures don't always hold the majority view and in many cases comprise a relatively small proportion of their overall electorate, many of the rest of whom expect them to be able to make difficult but necessary decisions to help balance the books. This is what annoys me how can my elected councillor represent my views against school closures when he Is on the education commitee and for them??? It should be carried out independentley. Same goes for the windrarm project but that is another thorny matter
  10. Dont worry plenty of chances to submit your view without being named or in front of anyone

  12. Unfortunatley this cannot work with a combi boiler. You would have to install a megaflow with a coil inside The Heat pump draws approx 3kw but this is not constant and is switched off when the thermostats on the water tank or in the room switch it off.
  13. We left the existing electric boiler in as there is no need to remove it. It is not on and the air source heat pump provides all our hot water and heating. Maximum i have had the heat pump up to is 60 degrees c. The heating stat on our tank for the rads and UFH is set to 43oc so when that is satisfied the heat pump just switches on and off with that thermostat. The water is timed to come on at different times of the day and that stat is set to 50oc which is perfect. The advantages over Ground source and any other air source I have seen is the installation costs with this type it is thousands of pounds cheaper. The garage does not get cold and remains a few degrees higher than the outside air temp. This Heat pump has a stainless steel evaporator so is more resilient to Shetlands environment than say the aluminium or copper evaporators
  14. I think the Grant system is a way for registered bodies to make more money. The price of these units is £1500. With installation costs it would be well below other units that go through the grant system. I have heard of people having installations with grants still costing above £5000!
  15. Hi I have installed an air source heat pump in our house in Brae. It is amazing how much it has saved us as originally we had an electric boiler. It is a new build with under floor heating and radiators combined. They are particularly suited to well insulated houses as the water temperature from the heat pump is lower than produced from eg an oil boiler. It extracts the free useable heat in the air and through a refrigeration process (the exact opposite of how your fridge works) exchanges the heat produced with the water in your central heating system. It is very easy to install with an existing wet central heating system and there are very little controls so is simple to operate. You doint have to remove your existing boiler. Radiator size may have to be increased due to the lower water temperatures. We installed the 12kw unit in our garage and ran the water pipes into the house to connect at our tank. In the garage the air temperature is usually 2-3 degrees higher than the outside temperature so improving the efficiency of the Heat pump. If you have freezers , washing machines or dryers in the garage it can use the heat from them to improve the efficiency that otherweise would be wasted. The unit can be installed outside. Anyone wants info just contact me or come along. 07788113340
  16. Hi It is just the same as any auction put your bid in and if it gets beat you have to bid again up to the time it closes!! The auctions are in 3 sets so you may have to wait till your item comes up. Cheers
  17. My wife went to the Gibertson Park and was told NO STILLETOES!! She had to go back to her friends house to try and find some shoes but to no avail. She then spent the night in her bare feet at the hall. Funnily enough the floor was covered with plywood and a protective covering anyway!! When she left in the early hours she collected her shoes from the cloackroom and left. She was met by a drunk hostess at the door who gave her a tirade of abuse about wearing stilletoes in the hall!! Her language and demeanor were appalling and it ruined my wifes night there. The hostess would not believe her or her friends that they of course had abbided by the rules. neddless to say she or her friends will not be returning to the Gilbertson park to get that kind of abuse again!!
  18. Has anyone tried to Charter a plane from Tingwall lately? I have to go to Foula and Papa Stour Yearly. I usually charter it to Uplift me from Foula and take me to Papa Stour. First year was £290 inc VAT Second year was £421 inc VAT This year after SIC takes over £600 + VAT!! Needless to say I did not charter. I had problems getting into Foula with the weather this year and asked for a quote for a charter just to Foula £500 + VAT !! I suppose they have to pay for the planes somehow, but at that price i think the planes will be sitting in the hanger as it is too expensive to hire them off timetable!!
