JAStewart
Assuming that none of the home nations qualify, I would love to have a home international league over the summer with: ScotlandWalesRep of IreN. IreEngland (ranked in order of best to worst ) playing against each other. If no-one qualifies then it will be a pretty empty summer for the United Kingdom and Ireland. What do you think. Sudden Stop
Absolutely. Great idea, the winners could remain the 'current champs' for a long time though, until everybody failed to qualify again. Ha! What am I saying, it could be a pretty regular thing... Styles
I thought there was talk of starting it again with the celtic teams as England were not interested and they were maybe going to invite the Republic of Ireland.
BALLACK
Home internationals would be good idea but it will never happen. Only the celtic nations are considering taking part. England have declared themselves out. Scotland have gone to another level and are better than Wales and Northern Ireland. I can't see it happening due to all the politics involved. Plus players want to rest in the summer and recharge after a long hard season. 2008 will be a good summer for sport with the Euro 2008 Champs, Olympics and Andy Murray in Wimbledon. Do you think we should enter a Great Britain mens football team for 2012?
penfold
NO!
njl3
I think it would be brilliant to get this organised for next summer. A football tournament consisting of Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales could only be good for the fans and increase the interest in British football next year. Marshall
I think it would also be great but I don't think England will come aboard they are to good for us and will want to rest players. It would still be good for Scotland without England but it takes away the edge. Depends on the new England manager John Barnes might fancy it. Styles
It is going ahead but with Ireland as well. England still have to decide and have a week to do so. Hope they do as I think Scotland would beat them.
JAStewart
http://www.shetlink.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3763 We already have an existing thread. (*** MOD - now merged ***) The Times reported that the FA are unwilling to reinstate the Home Internationals anyway.[1]
Mutton
I would leave Ireland out; no longer a home nation
JAStewart
Yeah and if you left ireland out you could have a better organised competition Team A vs Team BTeam C vs Team D Final = A/B vs C/D
JAStewart
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/7114148.stm Well well well! No England Pussies.
Baxter
Without England this is a waste of time. WHATS THE POINT??
JAStewart
A good chance to train our youngsters for international football. Scottish international football isn't just about beating England.
EISTnWAST
I'm with Baxter on this one. Without England the competition would be Mickey Mouse. Just take the team out to the Kirin Cup again, and hand out the Mickey Mouse caps at their Mickey Mouse tournament.I thought the U21s and B team was for giving younger players experience? IMO if Scotland want to get to the next level we need some quality opposition in friendly matches. There will be plenty of good sides looking for a tough friendly before Euro 2008.
