Fifi
While some lucky parts of the world will see a total eclipse of the sun today, it seems we in Shetland are best placed in the UK to see a partial eclipse this morning. It will apparently be seen at its best around 10.15-10-20am or so in the UK with Shetland seeing the moon obscure 36% of the sun while London will only get 12%. The following articles include the usual caveats concerning the dangers of looking directly at an eclipse. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/weather/article4432137.ece "Totality is timed to begin at sunrise at 0921 GMT in Queen Maud Gulf off Victoria Island in the territory of Nunavut, Canada. The instant of greatest eclipse occurs at 1021 GMT close to the Russian city of Nadym. Totality ends at 1121 GMT near the Chinese city of Xi'an in Shaanxi province. Medziotojas
How's the weather there today? Bright sunshine and blue skies here, and with 28°C forecast for today, it should make for good viewing, although we're a little further south (about level with Newcastle) so it won't be as good as Shetland. insouciant
Well that's an impressive photo. I didn't manage to get anything nearly as good or clear but without any filters or protection I was fearing for my camera's sensor and my own retinas. http://www.benadamson.co.uk/IMG_0765.jpg
