The Politics Of You.

Recommended Posts

Mine came up:

Economic Left/Right: 0.00

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.54

I'm not sure what that means--its different from most of the other scores here--Maybe I'm not as much of a "redneck" as I thought I was. Maybe this helps to "balance" the forum??

Some of the questions remind me of the prosectuor asking the presumed guilty party in the dock "have you stopped beating your wife". I agree there should be a "no opinion" option--some of the questions asked the wrong things.

8O

But then, it doesn't surprise me as it's yourself styles

But seriously, it's good to have a bit of balance/contrast about the place.

I'm surprised at BlackEagles score though, just goes to show.

You are very right about the 'closed' questions though. I wasn't happy with the options for a lot of them.....and came out a bleeding heart liberal soft shoe socialist, which was a surprise to me i can assure you.

You are right the questions were going to lead you to some answers wrongley for example:

"A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system."

I strongley agree that it does (as obviousley it will avoid all the arguments) but that does not mean I agree with it! The question should be worded diffrently.

I would read it differently and agree if I saw it as an advantage, disagree if I saw it as a disadvantage.

I would read it differently and agree if I saw it as an advantage, disagree if I saw it as a disadvantage.

And that pehaps misses the point that styles is making, unless i'm just getting confused now, which is very possible, hence a simple analogy:

Q "A large mallet is advantageous in having the last word in a debate, when used in rapid contact with oponents bonce, hence guaranteeing the last word."

    1) Strongly agree,
    2) Agree,
    3) Uncertain,
    4) Disagree,
    5) Strongly Disagree

Well, the logical answer is #1, but my own opinion is, of course, that it should never be used ( well, rarely) so #1 is the 'correct' answer but has nothing to do with my opinion, the emotive answer is #5. A misleading question in some respects?

What I was saying was really meant to support Styles statement that the questions were misleading. He read it one way and I read it another.

I should probably take time to reply properly and not do it between bites of lunch!!!

So which way did you see it?

I see it as a disadvantage, so I would disagree with the statement (I think!!)

Economic Left/Right: 1.13

This on a retake just for fun...They call it a test on the website, which from my school days and teaching days implies a right and a wrong answer. It should be called a poll.

Maybe my real colours are coming out. If I take it again, I could become a real radical of some sort.''

Maybe I get it from my uncle--he was so stubborn that if he fell in a river and drowned you would have had to look upstream for his body!''

Contemplation: I grew up in Midwest US, strongly Republican (conservative) influence at home, in school, and little influence from the news media. How much does our upbringing/education influence our views today?

Can we blame schooling for "brainwashing" us? I think it has a strong influence.

One journal I saw in University, in the department of education, had a revealing article. I wish I had made a copy of it. I was shocked. It was a review of a speech made by someone high up in education circles--an educator of educators. The speaker said something to the effect that children have certain mental illnesses when they start school: respect for parents and for authority, belief in God, and maybe one or two other things. It is the duty of the schools to cure these children of these mental illnesses.

We can see the benefits of this "cure" 30 years down the line. Whereas teachers back then had to deal with serious classroom disruptions and behavioral problems such as chewing gum, talking in class, and missed homework, now in many places they have to deal with being verbally and physically assaulted, drug abuse, and you can make the list as long as you want. Yobbish behaviour rules the streets all too often, etc. etc.

The bottom line is that things have changed, and not for the better, since people have been taught families are no longer a good thing, that authority is there to be challenged at every turn (there may be times it needs to be challenged, but then it is authority being abused) and that God is something man has made up to make him feel nice. (I think it was Mark Twain who said that in the beginning God created man, and ever since man has been trying to return the favour).

Enough musings. I have probably stirred up a hornet's nest and I'll probably get myself shot down in flames. Again, I'm just contemplating how we happened to get the scores we got on this "test"--where we stand politically and economically.''

I'm not sure that serious contemplation of this "test" will get you get you anywhere BlackEagle.

As I said earlier on in the thread, the questions are very leading. They're structured to absolutely polarise responses and I wouldn't put too much credence in the results.

I am not a number..........I am a free man
