  1. Sorry if I appear dim but can you explain why please?
  2. Whichever way this goes what happens to those responsible within the council for creating the farse in the first place? They sent the man a letter granting permissions, they went against there own local plan and created the mess.
  3. "That's absolutely incredible, I'd never heard that quote before. " Neither have I and I was at the meetings?
  4. How about: Sink or Swim (in Hay's Dock) A Knight Oot Sour Grayps The Drain No Strings Attached The Saturday Knight Palais The Eastern Star
  5. No, i think they would learn a hell of a lot more training and playing with the likes of Ross Jamieson, Leighton Flaws etc than being grouped below that. The Junior Association now have development squads at 12, 14, 16, and 18 training regularly together. The next step up should be seniors as by 16, 17 an 18 they are all playing that level anyway. 40 are picked but mark my words JJ will be lucky if he gets 20 at any one session.
  6. I think you miss his main point. Is he not reafirming that the senior clubs have to mirror the juniors to create community football. Whitedale A, B 18s etc, Celtic, Delting, Whalsay, Spurs, Ness United et al. The issue arises with Unst and Yell, Scalloway and Burra and Works League because depite the sabre ratling by grown men at present none of these can sustain that community club without each other. And as he says some of those senior clubs are going to find they start to crumble from the top and that WILL have an effect on the youth. But then I suppose if you have no concern about the youth, who organises that, who pays for it etc just crack on.
  7. Not at all. I really don't want to indulge in individual cases of who should and who should not be in - that is for any manager to decide. What I am saying is that any player who was involved and dropped out should leave it at that. Training for that level is now a big commitment and is not something you should be able to drop and pick up again when it takes your fancy.
  8. I'm sure the new manager is taking the view, like any manager worth his or her salt, that before a ball is kicked everyone is rules IN. He has picked a very large training squad. Time will tell who amongst them have the dedication and will to want to play for Shetland. Those who train and show willing will come out on top. In my view, with no disrespect to these guys, going back to players like Martin, Jon or Laurence is a step backwards. Youngsters, who have been training with Shetland squads at 16 and 18 level over the past two years, are in there for the experiance. It is very unlikely that many of them would make any final squad.
  9. I'm saying legal v illegal. Same as if you drive over the speedlimit or not.. Legal v illegal = personal choice Yes and if you get caught expect to get dealt with. Simple.
  10. Enjoyment should be whit playin' any sport is all aboot. Da inevitable abolition o da B League is a disaster for youngsters. It's a good point dat dis should be viewed as a test season, an' hopefully come September da SFA will realise dat it's been a stupid proposal all along. As I understand it I don't think there is any plans to abolish the B league, only to make it a league for clubs second teams only.
  11. Excelent post. All the nails hit on the head.
  12. Must stick in the throat a bit that Scalloway FC are funding the development and progress of young Burra bairns when Burra FC are doing nothing in that respect - and why? because the area does not have enough youngsters top support youth football on its own. I have no conection with either clubs but community football is the only way forward and by that I mean a club that can sustain a senior side a reserve side and as many youth sides (8's, 10's, 12's, 14's, 16's and 18's) as they can get numbers for. An area like Scalloway, Burra, Trondra and Tingwall should have one club to cover all these. Burra will not last another two-three years and in the meantime Scalloway will suffer and may also struggle as a result. What's a name for christ's sake!!! are some people still playing peerire boys games wi "we dunna lik boys fae na na na na .......... etc"? grow up.
  13. Isn't it funny that when something back fires they blame someone else. If you are going to take a stance in life and are prepared to stand up and shout be prepared for the bullets. I was at a meeting of the SFA when GP said very clearly that it was Unst and nothing else as far as "he" was concerned. There was no doubt what he felt about “independence†v Northern Rovers. Just a pity that almost everyone you speak to says the same thing, for the good of all the players and A and B Northern Rovers is the way FORWARD. PS. The same applies to Burra and Scalloway.
  14. I agree with that fully. I enjoy it so take part and when I cease to enjoy it I will stay home.
  15. Not that we should allow hooligans of any club dictate when and where which games should go ahead but I think it would be arong to postpone this fixture. The other incident was differren in that the team winning the league was the away side. If Celtic were to acttuali clinch it I would think the vast majority of supporters swould be staying for the party where as the away support would be heading for the taxis.
  16. What about "street" lighting in Cunningsburgh, Sandwick, East Voe etc?
  17. Why would they have to postpone that fixture? Its a league, and should be left alone. I would think that if it came to that the supports of Celtic will all want to be there and the supporters of Rangers would be more than happy to be elsewhere, no?
  18. 1) If a few wanted then yes. 2) I don't really think it is a big part of UHA. Yes the Jarl's squad are the main thing throught the day but the procession and the eving are more about having fun, meeting people etc. It's like a huge new year in my book. 3) Of recent years, I would say Mark Manson. He restored dignity to the post after some before him had damaged the festival.
  19. Hundreds line route to se local hero? Hero, where does that come from?
  20. yes leave him to it. Then the local plan can be binned and Asda will set-up on the big plot of land behind Stronachs and he, and many other business, can close the door.
  21. Fair enough but who put in all the work, paid the bills, put in the time, bought the strips, paid for the parks, did the fundraising etc when you were that young players at Thistle? Not any works league team. Once again, they do nothing to promote youth football and someone has to.
  22. I may be way wrong here but I doubt whether Burra or Unst have many more players than Yell do.
