  1. I agree with you both. I was once told that that rusty vehicles etc were left lying around as it cost too much fot the owners to ship them off the island. Then I think I also read the the Amenity trust will take them away for you. It does make Shetland look like a dump However it's also the landowner's choice, just a shame that so much of it is on public view next to the roads. A semi-wild croft sounds like fun, but kids will find advernture anywhere, won't they. I used to play on delapidated asbestos garages, where there was loads of glass. Had many adventures. With hindsight it probably wasn't such a good idea
  2. Calceolaria polyrhiza maybe...? Definitely looks like one of those, seems there are a LOT of variations. Maybe I'll just settle for Calceolaria Thanks for you help!
  3. Just looked through 17 pages of Google images and can't find a mimulus the same The top part bends down like it's hinged at the bottom. I was wondering if maybe it's an orchid of some kind. I couldn't find a picture the same for an orchid either.
  4. Little wild plant growing in the most acidic part of the garden. Has red spots under the flower. Any ideas? http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w170/MCDizzyKipper/singles/shetlink/DSC00593.jpg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w170/MCDizzyKipper/singles/shetlink/DSC00595.jpg
  5. I've been looking for noctilucent clouds for a while now, and just happened to check last night about 1.30am. Don't have the ideal camera for it, but got a few pics. This one probably showed it the best... http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w170/MCDizzyKipper/singles/shetlink/1.jpg Not as good as elsewhere on the WWW esp as the sky is bright but first I've seen
  6. Saw it about to take off on the webcam. Looked out of the window and it took off - much faster than I expected! Then it looped to the north and back to the airport where it looked as though it did something acrobatic? Then I couldn't hear it any more
  7. There was something on the news about more money for the higland and islands. Is any of this coming our way? Undersea cable was mentioned but it didn't say where. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-18577077
  8. great ones The one I remember: Hey diddle diddle, the cat did a piddle All over the kitchen floor. The little dog laughed to see such fun so the cat did a little bit more.
  9. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18386590 Seems they did - just didn't get it up live at the time. Great! The bit I missed I saw the 'staff' pointing out the seals, shame they couldn't have been got in the shots but I guess it would have been too difficult. It looked great fun and I think, having watched the relay from some other locations, that the open camera vehicle allowing more crowd, staff and runner chat to be heard made for a much better stream. And Shetland always looks great when the sun is out!
  10. Post them to the BBCtwitter account they might use them on the live feed Speaking of which, I'm getting 2 sec feed, 2 sec still, 2 sec feed followed by audio only until I refresh the page again Still better than nothing ANd thanks for the pics. WAtch it full screen, seems to mske a big difference!
  11. Thanks for the offer, that's kind of you, I have plans now... I will try and catch the live stream if they manage to get it to work... or there's always the local news tonight. Thanks for the thought.
  12. I hope it goes well... I won't be able to see it The live stream on the BBC relies on a strong 3G signal. There was no stream from Orkney, as I read it.
  13. I hope people turn out for it. Rest of UK has had big crowds, would be a touch embarrassing if nobody lined the route here, don't you think?
  14. Isn't it going to be here on Sunday? http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchrelay/day23 TV crews, online streaming, and people all over the world watching Lerwick... Not seen much about it here though :S BBC Newsbeat - reactions from Shetland people http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/18349903
  15. And Fair Isle too http://www.diamondjubileebeacons.co.uk/static_html/interactive_map_171898.html you can zoom in on Shetland
  16. Thanks We're talking in direct line of sight too?
  17. I just found some It might help people monitor their connection, esp those having problems. It doesn't have my router model so I just picked any Belkin, put in my IP for it and it worked first time. MY router stats are available without having to log in to it so I didn't have to add my login details either. http://vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm#routerstatslite I downloaded the 'Lite' version which requires no install. It monitors your ping, sync rate (your connection speed to the exchange), and SNR. Takes a few minutes before you start seeing graphs. Possibly a bit boring for a good connection. The examples are interesting though, appraching storms and such. NOTE it won't monitor your data speed like Speedtest does - it's not what it's for. There is also a 'full-fat' version as well. Hope that helps some people
  18. I used to like Fairly Nuts but no one seems to have it now So I tried the new core ones. The berry one has a funny centre, if I recall correctly it tastes a bit of coffee? Didn't like it and scooped it out to one side. The Karamel Sutra was OK but wouldn't buy again. Not tried the other one (yet). http://www.benjerry.co.uk/flavours/core
  19. I have a carpet which I had wrapped up, and would like to put it down. Can anyone recommend an independent carpet fitter that put it down? I plan to keep the existing underlay that is under the current carpet. I'll also be looking someone to clean it. I seem to remember the name Orkclean? but I can't find a web site for them to find out more. Any suggestions welcome
